People probably wanted to post but then they played the Rickey Jackson drinking game. Take a drink for every time he says "hometown" then call me when you wake up in two days.
I actually liked Rickey Jackson's speech. He's a country boy who was nervous and didn't use any notes, once he past the "hometown" part he did alright. I liked the fact that he picked Benson as his presenter and not DeBartolo who he could have chosen. He was honest and spoke from the heart. And no, he was not drunk. |
I've been arguing that point with 49ers fans for years, if only Joey T. would have kept his peepee in his pants...
That had nothing to do with it. Yeah Theismann was doing his dirt but that game was lost in the trenches. That day the Raiders d-line simply man handled our 0-line. |
Re: Russ Grimm On Canton, Hot Dogs, and The Hogs
Glad to see Buges get up there and talk about running 50 gut right at Randy White. And good to see Grimm mentioning the old gang getting sewed inside his yellow jacket. Good stuff there...

The QB sets the tempo, does he not? Yes our OL wasn't at it's best, actually the whole team. I think a little over confidence didn't help either. |
Re: Russ Grimm On Canton, Hot Dogs, and The Hogs
I would go with an over confident team who wasn't as hungry as the Raiders that day. 8 out of 10 timesw we win that game. They were the better team that Sunday.
Back to Grimm, great speach by the big guy last night, love how he talked about the playoff game against Atlanta in 91 where everyone threw out thier seat cushions they gave away at the stadium, the We Want Dallas Chants and Rocking RFK, and the Championship Team he played for and on. He thanked the B and G nation and honestly I wish there was more of us there. He should have had the cheers and fan fare that Art and DG recieved from all of us in Canton. Awesome to see the first of I hope more hogs to get in the Hall. Joe Jacoby should be going next!!! He deserves the hall as well. |

I'm still stoked about the fact that no one will ever get a long standing ovation like Monk did 2 years ago. |
Re: Russ Grimm On Canton, Hot Dogs, and The Hogs
This is relatively a young board anymore, well at least the guys that post the most. I mean Russ hasn't been playing for 17 years. An entire generation has never seen him play. Add the fact that offensive linemen rarely get the spotlight and voila, you will get a low message # on the thread. Russ looked good at the ceremony. He of course is older, but still looked pretty good. I am glad for him, and I am sure that all of the Hogs will be in the HOF soon.

Re: Russ Grimm On Canton, Hot Dogs, and The Hogs
Well I doubt we will get them all in but they desevrve to. At the least I would think Jacoby should be there.
I agree with you about the age of the board, I am 32 but I remember all those old school guys, because as a kid they were some of my heroes. I loved all the guys from the 80s and early 90s. I grew up and became a fan when we won all the Superbowls. The first game I ever remember was the 82 Superbowl. Ever since I remeber watching the games every Sunday ( well for the most part) since I was 5. |
Re: Russ Grimm On Canton, Hot Dogs, and The Hogs
I notice that Russ did not thank Jay Schroeder for his great leadership. Strange omission. :)

Re: Russ Grimm On Canton, Hot Dogs, and The Hogs
Also I remember all of the Hogs names much better than I remember our RBs from back then, I know the big guys but I can't recall all of thier names.
I know most of the Defensive players, and all the WR and QBs. My point being that the Hogs were a glorified part of our team and even though they dont get much fan fare today, that group of guys did. WE all knew that they were the monsters up front that allowed us to win so many football games. |

And their O-line dominated our D. I'm still trying to erase the memory of Marcus Allen running wild. Theismann's gift to Squirek did not help, though. |
Re: Russ Grimm On Canton, Hot Dogs, and The Hogs
The Hogs were the best O line in NFL History. Would have been something if they could have played against the Steel Curtain.

Wasn't Joey T. busted with Cathy Lee Crosby around or before the SB? |
Re: Russ Grimm On Canton, Hot Dogs, and The Hogs
^ Are you equating Theismann's inability to control his johnson with his inability to control screen passes? :)

It was something like 2 or 3 nights before. |
