Yes. The best thing I have seen is that our efforts look actually professionally competent. It seems to me in the past we (the fans and the team) felt like we were a good enough team to win 10+ games every season...if we execute perfectly and stay healthy. With this team and regime I feel like we don't necessarily have to be perfect to be competitive. It's funny how a change in approach brings a team to another level. Maybe we only win7 or so games hits year...but it'll be because we have some talent gaps...it wont be because we're out-coached, out-efforted or unprepared. |
Exactly. A massive WHO CARES. The Colts have lost 22 of their last 26 preseason games. And all they do is win 12+ every year. Steve Spurrier kicked major preseason ass. Meaningless.
I'll never forget that weekend. I was at a wedding in Sarasota, Fl. Total blast. The game was on TV, and I was with a bunch of college friends in the hotel that night. We were playing drinking games and for some reason we were all wearing sombreros. For the life of me I can't remember why. We were all UF students at the time, so there was a big interest for us with Spurrier and all. Hammered drunk. Great times. |

This is why I'm so excited about this season. The FO knows how to prepare, execute, & make adjustments to a game plan. HTTR. |
Re: HUGE difference from 2009 preseason to 2010 present!
This has nothing to do with us winning or losing...this is not some "Colts" comparison...
This is a graph of all the little things improving. A sample in just a few meaningless games. But not so meaningless. What's you see is the team improving in all phases of the game to become great. All the little things. We're causing more turnovers We're getting more 1st downs Our 3rd down efficiency is much better All these things are not because of mcnabb.. Or because we Trent williams... Or because we moved landry to F.Safety... None of these.. All these certainly help and are upgrades... but not why we are playing discipline football here. it's because i'm seeing the attention to detail, by this coaching staff to correct all the "little" things to make this team superb! There not just changing schemes guys... That was the easy part. They're changing the culture in the locker room The attitude The aggressiveness on Defense Like a Drill Seargent ... They're breaking these guys down and building them back up to what Shanny wants of them. I know many don't see or even respect this... But as a former Coach myself...I sure do and this is certainly not easy to do Period... Let alone in 1 offseason Those of you who have us predicted to go 8-8 or worse with a HOF coach and Mcnabb, should have your fan card examined or your head..one of the 2. (But I guess I understand....I think our Players have been thinking like some of you guys for far too long and that has changed with Shanny and staff) This team will win 10 games minimum!! Book it! (I say 14) |

Re your 1st observation, SmootSmack:
beemnsevenspop... you are definately not drinking any Koolaid are you. more like some sour ass the redskins suck Koolaid.... :)
Re your subsequent 1, 2, and 3: I recognize that preseason is a means to fine-tool what was learned in training camp, and is designed to evaluate talent and determine who stays, and who is kicked to the curb. In the end, hopefully everyone realizes that the preseason win/loss record is meaningless. However, GOOD teams who perform dismally in preseason possess an innate ability, when things count, to kick it up a notch or twelve and behave on the field like they care. (See GMScud's remark concerning the Colts.) Other teams, who perform dismally (or marginally) during preseason, seem to have a knack for carrying their losing/"I'm here for the money, don't you know?" attitudes on to the field for the next seventeen weeks. (See GMScud's remark concerning Spurrier.) The Colts belong to the former group, and the 'Skins, well, despite some notable exceptions thus far, are destined, I fear, to return to their old mentalities. We may have an improved attitude (just how much improved will become apparent over the course of the season), but the talent pool is woefully deficient, IMO. I sincerely hope I'm wrong, but old habits - as defined by our prior seventeen-year performance - are hard to break. I interpreted his inclusion of the Colts in his remarks as an invitation to draw a comparison between us and them; hence, my observation, "We are not the Colts". There simply IS no comparison. And that was MY point. |

Re: HUGE difference from 2009 preseason to 2010 present!
Nothing wrong with taking a peek at the stats this time of year, but really you can't take much from them. At this time of year I think you want to see things like effort, players executing the fundamentals, mental focus, things you can't necessarily fit neatly in a stat category. And from that perspective it's safe to say this isn't the 2009 Redskins. I'm definitely excited about this season and the new regime in place. Time to let the past go folks. There is finally some real change taking place.

Re: HUGE difference from 2009 preseason to 2010 present!
I only got to watch the Ravens-Redskins game thus far, and I was much more impressed with our QB pocket presence than from a year ago. I liked JC, but if he was under center in that Ravens game they would have had about four sacks and a safety in the first half. That alone is a huge improvement.

Re: HUGE difference from 2009 preseason to 2010 present!
Given that we're in the middle of a major change throughout the organization, I expected preseason to be a bit messy. Still, I think there are some decent signs for the team:
1. Passing attack. Light years beyond Zorn's offense (and Gibbs II, for what it's worth). 2. Turnovers on D--an emphasis and it's played out well so far. 3. Better QB play. The reads from all our QBs make me happy, after the slow-motion JC era. Worries: 1. Run offense. Here I think the time it takes to implement Shanny's zone scheme is showing. Also, we don't yet have the players to do it, IMO. 2. Run D. Worries at the nose--is Keemu healthy? But this may also be a learning curve deal. Still, I don't think we yet have the personnel here. 3. Depth. My feeling is that it's going to take Allen and Shanny a few seasons to get everything in place, no matter what they say about McNabb and "win now." Bottom line: at least we don't look like a goofy gimick team out there. We look like a football team, for the first time in a while. Even if we're not contenders yet, I think it's hard to doubt we're moving in the right direction. |
