Re: Richmond Redskins?
I dont see a problem with having training camp in Richmond.
I know DC wants to move Redskins Park into DC. The Mayor went to Tampa to get an idea of what a state of the art facility is like. He wants to offer a site next to RFK Stadium. |

outsiders welcome too ;)
I'm no longer a richmonder, but went to VCU & love the town. Would be a nice visit! |

That was great I wouldn't say the Redskins are ignoring fans in Maryland and/or ceding the state to the Ravens but I have heard their focus is to really target fans in DC, Virginia, West Virginia, and even North Carolina (strong Gibbs influence and still a lot of fans from the pre-Panthers days). FedEx is what it is right now, they'll be there for a while. |

It's said that where I'm moving from, I can catch every single Redskins game on TV, but just 40 minutes down the road, that's not the case! :( |

I've been to Cowboys camp in Oxnard, evict them and move the Redskins in. |
Re: Richmond Redskins?
I'd hate this as a PA resident. Instead of a 2 hour drive, it would be 4 hours.
Also, from the article:
But the timing – late July to mid-August -- would conflict with the training for the Spiders and facilities might not be sufficient for simultaneous use by a pro team, a college team and other fall-sports teams for the Spiders City and business representatives say the focus has shifted to Virginia Commonwealth University, which doesn’t have a football team or stadium, but has dormitory and sports medicine facilities. VCU Athletic Director Norwood Teague confirmed today that the university has been involved in the city’s plan to draw the Redskins. Teague said VCU “has tried to offer some of our facilities that would work. We’re not sure what will work, and will not work.” “That’s a tough time for us because (Redskins) training camp is during the time when all of our athletes come back for fall sports,” he said. “That makes it a bit problematic, but who knows?” Teague said a combination of city, VCU, and UR facilities is conceivable, but such an arrangement would be unusual for an NFL team. Re: Richmond Redskins?
I know that I have dealt with several Redskins front office people and they have come down South here. Most of this was a couple of years ago and more than one made the comment about there being more people wearing skins gear down here than in DC. Perhaps these observations have something to do with it?

yeah we do HTTR! |
Re: Richmond Redskins?
The other question is could it be a negotiating ploy with DC or some other facility?

Re: Richmond Redskins?
This is about as stupid of an idea as you can get. D.C. metro area is where the money is at not some working class city like Richmond. No self-respecting sports business man would move from the D.C. area. If Snyder moves the Skins to Poormond you can bet your ass a poor team like the Jags would have no problem immediately moving to the D.C. area.
Let's also not forget that people hate paying to watch losers like the Redskins under the Snyder regime...in D.C, area you at least have the corporate money flowing in, in Richmond all you'll get is blackout money. |
