Re: Bountygate Punishment for the Saints
WOW is right!! . . . Deserved IMO . . . that's sends a pretty clear message that the NFL will not tolerate this type of behavior . . .
Can't help but think we dodged a bullet not having GW take over for Gibbs.
don't be so quick to think we dodged a bullet. Goodell said that when he considers Williams' eventual request for reinstatement, he'll consider how cooperative Williams is in future investigations. This can only mean the league is going to look into bounty systems at Williams' former teams. obviously, Shanahan and Allen cant be suspended as they weren't here, but draft pick penalties could be coming our way. Perhaps well agree to allow the NFL to screw us over with the cap if they promise not to screw us over with bountygate. |
Re: Bountygate Punishment for the Saints
Roger Goodell is definitely going to go down as one of the harshest Commissioners in NFL history. The era in which the players become robots, and the game becomes flag football.

Wonder what the Rams do now.

Re: Bountygate Punishment for the Saints
they should dock us 3 1st round picks, our 2012, 2013, and our 2014 ;)

Re: Bountygate Punishment for the Saints
“We are all accountable and responsible for player health and safety and the integrity of the game,” Commissioner Goodell said. “We will not tolerate conduct or a culture that undermines those priorities. No one is above the game or the rules that govern it. Respect for the game and the people who participate in it will not be compromised.”
“A combination of elements made this matter particularly unusual and egregious,” Commissioner Goodell continued. “When there is targeting of players for injury and cash rewards over a three-year period, the involvement of the coaching staff, and three years of denials and willful disrespect of the rules, a strong and lasting message must be sent that such conduct is totally unacceptable and has no place in the game.” The really key element as we talked about before (and what separates this in a big way from SpyGate) is that the Saints denied this for 3 years. Confronted, denied. Confronted again, admitted said they would do something about it...did nothing. Saints could have avoided harsher punishment had they admitted right away |

Hire a DC. |
This is some harsh punishment. GW's indefinite suspension? Does he make it back in the league?

Our GM didn't know about it at the time, Gibbs didn't know about it, Snyder didn't know about, and the league didn't find out about it and tell us to stop, only to have us subsequently lie to the league about putting an end to it. All of those things are true with the Saints. |
Re: Bountygate Punishment for the Saints
Holy smokes. Talk about Draconian punishment.

Did anybody......not understand Rog's message? YEEooow......Payton can't be around the facilities....team....coaches...no communication for a year? RuhSkins said it...Holy S... I saw that on the crawler and couldn't believe it. Never thought it would be that harsh. Maybe we want to take our 36m fine....make like tree....and get outta' here before RG really loses his cool..... |

Agreed, RG's message has been heard loud and clear. If you keep digging into the past where does it stop? Do you go all the way back to when GW was the DC for the Titans? Do the Bills get dragged in too? Doesn't make sense. |
Re: Bountygate Punishment for the Saints
What's more surprising is that Payton is going to keep his job. Also, he's losing a ton of coin over this as well.
Adam Schefter @AdamSchefter Sean Payton's year-long suspension means lost salary for one year. Payton's out about $7 million. |

Agreed. It sounds like the next step is doling out the player punishments. |
