Re: Jabar Gaffney Told to Seek A Trade
I'm all for giving guys a 2nd chance but Talib is a train wreck. I hope we don't bring him here.

Re: Jabar Gaffney Told to Seek A Trade
I'm down for Talib.

Re: Jabar Gaffney Told to Seek A Trade
Bring him here for a 1 or 2 year (at most) deal as a trial. If he ends up stinking or not keeping his nose clean, cut him lose.

Talib not an option:

Re: Jabar Gaffney Told to Seek A Trade
I would stay as far away from this kid as possible. He has way too many issues that overshadow the talent. Plus we seem to have a decent locker room, just wouldn't want to add him to the mix. Plus if he came here, he would seem to be one of those guys that play a year at a high level and then hold out for ridiculous money and cause another issue. I'd just stay away from him.
seems to be an immature idiot that blames everyone and everything on his problems. |
Re: Jabar Gaffney Told to Seek A Trade
Talib is definitely the exact opposite kind of guy we've been trying to build the team up with. I know we're just speculating but I don't see it happening.

Re: Jabar Gaffney Told to Seek A Trade
Talib is a jackass. He's a serious NFW in my book. I don't care how good he is.

Re: Jabar Gaffney Told to Seek A Trade
It's fine if you want to take a risk on a guy, but taking risks on several guys at the same time will most likely spell disaster.
Let's look at the current. We potentially have 2 starters that are a piss test away from a year suspension. Huge risks to say the least. Bringing in another starter who could potentially be doing time or suspended is another huge risk. So, you have to ask yourself is it worth potentially losing 3 starters just on stupidity alone? Not in my book. |
Re: Jabar Gaffney Told to Seek A Trade
Question, is there a length of time before the 3rd strike goes away? I mean TW is a young guy obviously, and that is a heck of a hammer hanging over the rest of his career. Let's say he plays clean for the rest of this contract and his next one, he would be about 30, would he still be facing a year suspension on a failed test? Or does it reset after x number of years?

It does appear that their drug intervention program allows them to reset the record (so to speak) if they go through Drug Stage 2 intervention without going to Stage 3 will be cleared. I think stage 2 lasts two years. If they are in stage 3 of the program, then they will not get to reset their records from the looks of it. Since they've failed 3 drug tests, they very well could be in Stage 3 and they have to be clean the rest of their career.
Completion of Stage Two: A player who completes Stage Two without being advanced to Stage Three will be afforded the same status as a player who had never by Behavior or a Positive Test been referred to the Intervention Stages.
Also to note. If a player is in stage 3, he's in it for the rest of his career so no mulligans it looks like.
Term: A player in Stage Three will remain in Stage Three for the remainder of his NFL career.
http://images.nflplayers.com/mediaResources/files/PDFs/PlayerDevelopment/2010%20Drug%20Policy.pdf |
Re: Jabar Gaffney Told to Seek A Trade
No, this isn't like a driving record where the tickets go off the record in three years. These infractions follow them the rest of their career in the NFL.
He could go 9 years and fail a drug test and he'll still be suspended 1 year because he's had prior infractions.
:/ Three years into his career and we're already facing the threat of losing two key players for a year due to drug abuse (and we have to live with that threat for the rest of their careers). I hope TW and FD pan out, I really do, but damn if they aren't idiots. |
Gaffney told Russell that going into last year’s Week 7 game in Carolina, the plan was for him to have a diminished role with Anthony Armstrong and Donté Stallworth going in as the two-deep at the X receiver position and Gaffney backing up Santana Moss at Z. Gaffney said, “my head wasn’t in the game” due to the demotion and he committed a key fumble near the end of the first half that helped turn the game in the Panthers’ favor. Carolina won going away in the second half. Everybody fumbles now and then but not having your head in the game because you were bumped down on the depth chart is inexcusable in the eyes of most coaches. It was an extraordinary admission for a veteran player who should know better. As it turned out, Moss suffered a broken hand in the game, giving Gaffney back the starting job. He ended up playing 871 of the team’s 1,103 offensive plays, far more than any other receiver. But the notion that he was moping on the bench will not help his trade value.
|

And he ruined John Beck's blossoming career in the process!!!

I think that's what I'll remember the most about this sad ordeal. Remembering how much we gave up for John Beck only for him to not pan out. Boy did the Ravens make out like bandits in that trade. |
