Re: Official Redskins Off-season News and Rumors - Part Quatre
a good read, with good all-22 and other clips, of the 2 major injuries Griffin suffered, and how both were (very!) easily avoided if Griffin made a different decision:

I think anybody with half a brain knows he got injured off of scrambles, and it had nothing to do with the read option. |

Well there is atleast 1 poster here, and tons of media and fans, that still puts it on the read option. But I am sure mainly he knows it will drive people like me to his site and he will get hits based off of it. |

Mainly because I still see fans and media personalities and hasbeen former Redskins quarterbacks talking about how he got hurt because the Redskins ran the read-option. I think most intelligent 'Skins fans know that he didn't get hurt running the read-option, but the amount of people I run in to that think otherwise is pretty noticeable. |

A lot of the fan base isn't as informed as many of the posters on various Redskins forums. There is a segment of fans that only read the Washington Post or Pete Prisco, take it as gospel and argue with you all day. We aim to inform folks while balancing out the negativity some of the mainstream media brings & aren't into writing stuff just for hits, if we were we would be writing about the Skins possibly cutting Hall & Davis like some other sites out there lol. KC's piece follows up 4 weeks of Jason Reid attacking the read option like Mike Wise attacks the name debate. I wouldn't mind the articles if Reid used actual film or even x's & o's to back it up but he doesn't. Appreciate you checking us out and HTTR |
Re: Official Redskins Off-season News and Rumors - Part Quatre
Honestly I appreciate the post. Basically because of all the statiscal data HTTR brought to the table.
Most of us know it, but even I was somewhat shocked to see that 50 of 120 rushes were off of broken plays. I knew it was high but that is great data to have. Thanks for the post. |
Re: Official Redskins Off-season News and Rumors - Part Quatre
Also it was a cool side note that in the first nine games we ran it 50 times and over the seven game winning streak only 20. That shows that the offense was already evolving at the end of last year.

Re: Official Redskins Off-season News and Rumors - Part Quatre
The average fan equates the read-option to scrambling. Which isn't too far off base. The read-option without the QBs' option to scramble is just play action. So likely the average fan feels in order to protect RG3 from his reckless style of scrambling (and his fragile-ness) is to limit or eliminate the option game all together. And yes, the data supports the coaches making adjustments towards the end of the season but, he still ended up getting hurt. So what does that really mean?

Sometimes it's just bad luck. It's football, injuries happen. |

It means that he has to play a smarter, better brand of football. The guys I always compare RGIII to are Steve Young and Steve McNair. Steve Young learned to scramble and run with a purpose. McNair learned to beat people from the pocket. If Robert can make that transition he's golden. But hey, injuries happen. He could've gotten injured on a 5-step drop from under center. |

Not true. The read option includes designed QB runs, with blocking assignments, etc. Scrambling is an unplanned run. Therefore the read option and scrambling are two different things. |

It's football, injuries happen.
Agreed - football players always get injured. Tom Brady and Peyton Manning are some of the biggest QB immobile rocks out there. Brady was out a year with a knee and Peyton was out with a neck. Admittedly it took them a lot longer to get hurt, and we all hope RG3 has understood the concept of protection. |
