Re: Matt Jones
Take Matt Jones at #9. At least you will get an explosive, athletic player. Mike Williams reminds me to much of a couple other wide recievers that the Redskins drafted - Rod Gardner, 15th pick in 1st round and Michael Westbrook, 4th pick in 1st round. Both tall and not explosive. IF you can get a trade partner, trade down and get Jones later. But I think that is a BIG IF in this draft.

Re: Matt Jones
espn insider says he has character issues, big ones,... he doesn't want to learn they say, " Has a very nonchalant attitude. Not sure if he loves playing the game of football. ", joe gibbs guy? " Doesn't seem overly willing[to learn], which is a big concern."

Re: Matt Jones
i just don't see us getting him w/ the ninth.
its a waste trade down and pic up a second. take a nap for a while he isn't going anywhere until 25+ pic AT BEST, use a second rounder if we trade down and pic up a d-line man for the hell of it but don't pic this guy at 9 and that just isn't gonna happen |
Re: Matt Jones
Everyone is drooling over this guy's physical attributes, but I'm a little concerned about a guy coming in to the league having to learn a new position. There's been many physical freaks to come through the league that have never amounted to anything.

Re: Matt Jones
Brock Lesnar ring a bell anyone. He is the definition of a freak and you'd think that SOME coach could mold him into something usable, but it just wasn't happening. Now I'm sure that Jones would be a bit easier to teach than Lesnar, but it's just tough.

Re: Matt Jones
TWO WORDS!! ANTONIO GATES!!
Didn't play college football, and the last time he played any football was in Highschool! C'mon man! Atheletic ability is rare comodity. Jones is worth a 9th round pick. Who wants another Desmond Howard, Mike Westbroken, Heath Schuler!!! |
Re: Matt Jones
I would say a 9th round pick, but that's about it.

Re: Matt Jones
saden1:
Rayfield Wright of the Cowboys started out as a TE and wound up as an All-Pro OT for years. He may even be in the HoF... Lenny Moore was a RB in college and a RB when he first came to the NFL but wound up in the HoF as a WR. Charley Taylor was a RB who did OK as a WR - or am I remembering wrong? Paul Hornung was a QB at Notre Dame but is in the HoF as an NFL RB. Calvin Hill was a fullback in college (Yale no less) and an All-Pro TE in the NFL. offiss: I was kidding about taking him as a CB. After all the glowing remarks about his physical prowess, it seemed to me that you could project him there too. But I wan't kidding about waiting a LONG time to draft him if you think he's your QB of the future - - because I don't think he'll ever be a big time NFL QB. |
Re: Matt Jones
i have complete trust in stan hixon to mold jones into a great wr... and like i said earlier, anyone could be a bust in this draft, anyone, so id like to take the one that has the most height with speed with basketball hands, agility
if we dont get him, i wont cry about it (until he is doing great with who did) , i like carlos rogers at 9. and with the recent report of pac man having a terrible work out, id say its a lock for rogers |
Re: Matt Jones
I haven't checked out Rogers recently. What are people saying about taking him with our first? Is he worthy of it?

Funny, those three had their share of athletic ability too. Here's a name to think of when talking about physical freaks, Tony Mandarich. Yes he ended up having a couple of decent seasons at the end of his career, but he wasn't the Canton bound tackle he was thought to be coming into the league. I guess I'm just not buying into the Matt Jones hype yet. |
Re: Matt Jones
I'm selling on this one...
I could see him as a project late in the draft, but that is it. |
Re: Matt Jones
I like Carlos Rogers, but at 9 it's a waste. If the phone's ringing. Trade down. Rogers is a great DB. I still think if BMW is there we need to take him. We need a redzone threat, and I'm not sure Gibbs is willing to let McCants play that roll. Cooley does well, but people we need other options.
