Re: So what if Gardner DOES stay?
Peerless Price put up numbers because he was opposite Moulds and couldnt do anything as a number one. Moss was the number one last year. He made big plays whenever Pennington threw him the ball, the problem is Chad never threw him the ball. For whatever reason they didnt hookup often. When Chad went down, Moss' numbers went up.
I think that Moss could work out well here. I agree that Moss needs to be paired up with someoen else and isnt the type of guy that draws a double team everytime. With that said, it looks like our lineup is setup the way the Pats was last year. We have five above average receivers. We can move teh ball around, keep the defenses guessing. If you have a bunch of receivers the other team has to respect, and give moss the option to run free, hes going to make plays. THe guy is a playmaker.
I agree, Moss proved he can put up big numbers as the go to guy, he had a 1000 yard season and 10 TDs not too long ago. |
Re: So what if Gardner DOES stay?
So who WILL be the #1 when the season starts?
|
Re: So what if Gardner DOES stay?
I guess that's why he consistantly stayed after practice and caught an extra 100-200 balls a day, that shitty work ethic of his. Rod Gardner isn't as bad as the media makes him look. He makes the easy balls look hard, and the hard balls look easy.
What good did that do him? He stayed after practice and caught balls after practice, but yet he still had a hard time catching balls in games? He's just too inconsistent. |

And I think ultimately that's what it comes down to, that no matter how hard he tries maybe Gardner just isn't that good. |
Re: So what if Gardner DOES stay?
Vikings have no plans to trade for Gardner now.

So did Gardner, but you keep blowing that off, Matty. Only difference is he had only 8 TDs. |

Gardner has also had 3 very inconsistent and very unspectacular seasons. Seems like the pro-Gardner people blow that off more often than the anti-Gardner people blow off the one 1000 yard season he had. He had one good season out of 4. Wow, I'm really impressed, even in baseball that's a crappy percentage. When is it time to move on? I'd say 4 seasons is more than enough time to properly evaluate a player. Last year was a disappointment for Moss because of injuries, but he STILL had a much better season than Gardner, and he also played in a conservative offense. |
Re: So what if Gardner DOES stay?
i;d like to see an even up trade to the falcons, gardner for price.anybody else fancy to that?
I'd like to see it, but we can't afford Price (his contract numbers are as big as Coles') and the Falcons would never trade Price for Gardner - Price is better and the Falcons would take about a $7 million cap hit. |
Re: So what if Gardner DOES stay?
I still REALLY REALLY want the Skins to draft Williams with our first pick.
|
Re: So what if Gardner DOES stay?
I see no reason why he wouldn't be our #1 if he stayed.
I see no reason why you shouldn't get your eyes checked out. Did you watch any games the past 3 years???????? |
Re: So what if Gardner DOES stay?
I am with most of you on Rod and that we may be better off without him but one of the main delays in a move being made is that Rod wants that one season to inflate his value before he is a free agent next year. This could be a great thing for our beloved skins.
Let him have the one year, at a low cap cost to do his best for the big dollars. Can this really hurt us?
YES. Unless you like 4th-tier talent being the so-called #1 receiver. |
Re: So what if Gardner DOES stay?
If we cant trade him, and have the cap room to keep him; I say keep him. With it being a contract year, I would be willing to bet he would perform pretty well. Then we will just be smart enough to let him go after that. Him and Moss would be neck and neck as #1's if we dont draft anyone, but I just dont think we should let him walk.
GARDNER IS NOT A #1 RECEIVER!!!!!!!! HE WOULD NOT START ON PENN STATE. WHY CAN'T YOU PEOPLE SEE THIS? |

You are probably one of those "fans" that think Ramsey is the next Montana, right? |

It is true that Gardner was on a wide open offense. Boy did he have all the opportunity in the world to show himself last year. You guys make Gardner out to be some horrible player. Yes, he drops balls. He has good speed for a man of his size, and he can make some big plays. He can get YAC, and is better than Moss, Patten, and McCants. If we can trade him, fine. I understand wanting to move on because seeing the spot where he was drafted makes him a bust. However, I bet he'd be at the top of the depth chart. There's a reason he's been a starter for this team for a while. There looks to be a good chance that we won't get either Edwards or Williams, so that leaves our options at WR in the draft as very slim. Gibbs doesn't seem to like McCants. So we may have to keep Gardner. |
Re: So what if Gardner DOES stay?
Skinz - It was reported by the Washington Post that he was doing that. I think Ramsey has potential and played well when given the oppurtunity. I also realize when you take away all of a man's receivers and replace them it takes time for chemistry to form.
Ramsey has a gun, and once his head catches up with his arm - he'll be great. They need to cater the offense to do two things: focus on Portis's strengths (quick cut and go), and Ramsey's strength (less short passes more intermediate to long passes. 7-15 yard completions. |
