From today's Keim article - Bill Polian on Redskins' Scot McCloughan's drafts: 'Meat and potatoes' - Washington Redskins Blog - ESPN
It’s not as if every draft produced under McCloughan; his last two in San Francisco were bad (one of those 13 draftees remained on the roster last year, Michael Crabtree). But his first three produced the foundation of the eventual playoff teams – and five were on the roster last year. That’s quite good.
I am the first to buy into the mantra "In Scot We Trust" but I think it important to make sure the discussion is based in reality. Even under the best circumstances, the draft is a crap shoot and even the best evaluators miss. Hopefully, Scotty McC replicates the success of his first three drafts, and not the failure of his latter two.

From the same article - Bill Polian's take on McC's drafting tendencies:
Polian said in a conference call. “It was meat and potatoes. Not a lot of flash and dash. Just good, solid football players who block and tackle and ran and were tough. You have to give him high marks for that.”
I am good with that.

Agree, I would like to see our first two picks on DF OLB/DL/ILB.

His first 3 were good, last 2 bad. That sounds to me like a his personal life may have been starting to overtake his sports judgement. (I could be completely wrong). This year will be Sm's strongest draft as a Redskins GM. I am 100% convinced of that. If we have a bunch of misfires, then we will have a very painful path ahead as we all try to convince ourselves it was; his time off, his personal life, BA/DS meddling, the karma of the Redskins name, our destiny.

This is a no excuses draft. We should come away with several players who will be lynchpins to any success we have going forward.

We need a big complete TE that can block and catch passes. Jordan Reed is injury prone and not a good blocker. I like this guy:

TEs and a RB that can block have been big issues. we've been terrible there for two years now (at least).

The NFL Draft is just a week away. And this mock may the best yet in terms of what Washington Redskins fans have been asking for.
NFL.com’s Daniel Jeremiah revealed his first two-round mock draft on Tuesday.
At No. 5 overall, Jeremiah has the Redskins selecting Clemson edge rusher Vic Beasley.
“Beasley is the most explosive edge rusher in the draft,” said Jeremiah.
With the No. 38 overall selection, Jeremiah has the ‘Skins picking Oregon offensive tackle Jake Fisher.
“Fisher could start at right tackle from Day 1 and provide insurance at left tackle.”

Does this give anyone the warm and fuzzies?

Two trench players. I can't hate it.

I want a tone set on this team. Jay Gruden's passion can only do so much, a tone has to be set from the trenches. Hard hitting, tough, relentless football. It's contagious and will breed a culture that will take us in the right direction finally.

I'm wondering if any team has looked at Vic Beasley as an ILB. He's a great athlete who I think could surely cover TE's. He's aggressive, he's a good tackler, he has the speed to go sideline to sideline making plays, and we know he can rush the passer.

If Beasley were to be paired with Keenan Robinson, they could be a top-notch ILB tandem, IMO.

I personally dont think you take a guy away from his strength, especially when that strength is at a premium in the NFL. Beasley is best at rushing the passer, which he would only do on an occasional blitz from the MLB position. Taking him from a pass rusher to someone that covers TEs comes across as a mistake to me. Seems that it would be similar to moving Trent to RT so we could say we solved the RT position.

Agree whole heartedly Schneed. It's been a long time since the trenches have been seriously addressed and it's shown. Time to get back to hardnosed football instead of just trying to get by with substandard players while trying to address other positions that couldn't possibly live up to their potential while playing behind guys that would be lucky to even make another teams roster. It's time to get nasty!
