Re: Alex Effect - 2019 Draft
Whether Smith got hurt or not, whether Colt plays well or not, we simply need to draft a QB in the first 3 rounds of the draft. Period.
We'll need to keep 3 on the roster. Always have a young QB in the building developing. IMO should have kept Sudfeld, especially w/ the Cousins situation. Another fuck up by the FO. For the pro Smith crowd, what the hell did you see that tells you that he's worthy of being a starter going forward? He was hesitant and jumpy in the pocket. The offense is too stagnant and we have to go on long drives to score. No big play ability at all. We're too easy to defend, no one respects his arm. He can be a pricey backup for a couple years. And last, Bruce needs to be fired ASAP. He has mismanaged the QB's, starting w/ McNabb, Rg3, Cousins and now Smith. Move on from him now please.
Bruce is awful at QB evaluations. That is painfully obvious. |

Bruce is awful at QB evaluations. That is painfully obvious.
Since when did Bruce ever become qualified or competent to evaluate quarterbacks? He shouldn’t be making personnel decisions. The guy is a dope. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Says pretty much every draft expert, I haven’t seen anyone that’s high on this class
lol... there is no such thing because they all miss badly on players all the time. I see at least 3 guys that are every bit as good as Cousins was at Mich State. Maybe even better. |
Re: Alex Effect - 2019 Draft
What if Colt plays well? We're getting way ahead of things from tossing dirt on Alex to thinking Colt can't be the starter heading into 2019. Pump the brakes folks.
Exactly. This doesn't change anything. They still need to find a franchise QB for the long term but do we expect anyone to start day 1? You know what a young QB needs? WRs and TEs! This team seriously needs some juice at the skill positions. Our WRs aren't giving us any YAC. |
Re: Alex Effect - 2019 Draft
^And don't forget toss dirt on buttfumble either...im sure he can still shit the bed with the rest of them.
Folks, we need a young QB on the roster now. Its not good. |
Nah Hill is replacing Brees, Teddy is actually the 3rd stringer to be honest
Th Saints traded a 3rd rounder for Bridgewater, he's staying on the roster. Either as a future starter or a backup. |

Just wait til they hear Bruce's offer. A 2nd round pick, and your choice of top young defensive talent. |
Re: Alex Effect - 2019 Draft
Unless the teams falls off the cliff and loses out, Colt lights it up like Nick Foles, or he decides to retire, the team is going with Alex next year. That doesn't mean that the team cannot draft a young QB to groom behind Alex.
I know people want to write Alex off, but name me another FA QB that has worked out this year? Ironically, Kirk Cousins has gone to a much more talented team, and still has roughly the same record that we have (technically ours is better). Casey Keenum hasn't lit it up in Denver either. And are people willing to write Alex off after just 10 games? Shit, how many years did we wait for Cousins to make this a winning team? If the team gave Kirk two years are 40+ mil, I'm willing to give Alex more than 10 games. I'm not justifying or defending Alex's bad performances this year, but what other option do we have? |
Re: Alex Effect - 2019 Draft
If Alex was completely cleared to play, I'd be fine with going into 2019 with Alex and Colt again. But with this injury, there is just no way we'll know if Alex will be ready to play week 1 by the time the draft rolls around. I don't want Colt as QB1, a JAG as QB2, and Alex on the PUP to start the season. So I think we have to draft a guy. The question is how high to me.

Long ways away as others have said but its def something to worry about |
Re: Alex Effect - 2019 Draft
Also Alex's contract had a guaranteed 44M over the next 3 years even if an Injury happened.

Then you add in a young guy, that leaves Smith in limbo really. His salary dictates that he'll be on the team, but the chances of him being the starter are slim if you ask me. Also Cousins had never been a full time starter and was much younger. Smith has had several years being a starter and we already know who he is as a player. So the options are Colt, or a rookie who has more of a ceiling than Colt and Smith. |
Re: Alex Effect - 2019 Draft
I'd take Carr, he's better than he looks this yr. I don't see them trading him though
Bringing in a guy like Carr or even Flacco won't happen w/ Smith's contract. It really leaves the team handcuffed and stuck w/ him. Maybe some of the cap guys can explain it but you can't bring in another vet like the ones I mentioned. That is why a rookie makes way more sense. And even if Colt totally balls out he would I assume want starter money going into next year. So many possibilities that are up in the air. |
Re: Alex Effect - 2019 Draft
Colt would have to play really well down the stretch here to take the job, I also think Smith would need to have some sort of setback to not enter the season as the starter.

Re: Alex Effect - 2019 Draft
I like Tyree Jackson out of Buffalo University....he's 6'7 245....has a very strong arm and very athletic....he will probably have to sit a year and learn the pro game...has a very good highlight reel...on the nfl level he will have to learn to scan the field better....has a habit of looking one way before delivering a pass....which will make it easy for NFL CBs to read his eyes and intercept his passes....but he's overall a quality prospect.
