It was on the Espn News TV, they didnt say much about it. Just sorta broke in and said the Skins "put a call in".
You think the Bolts would take Samuels and Gardner for the #1 pick? I don't.
Why not -- they need an OT and WR, right? Samuels is still a stud, and Gardner is solid. |
Mabye, they have a lot of holes to fill. Drafting a QB doesnt fill any of their holes. The thing is Marty wants to keep his job, he if drafts a QB and starts him then he is prolonging his life by saying he started a rookie QB to build with. If he traded teh pick for players he would be looking to build a team this year. Perhaps if you added Trotter and someone else you would fill more holes and it would look more attractive.

Fan presure for one thing, no one wants to be the GM who let the big time QB slip away. Like they did when Atlanta made the trade for Micheal Vick.
If the Skins trade Sameuls does his whole salary go against the the Bolts? |

Hell -- throw Trotter in too, he's gone anyway. |

if we trade him we still owe him teh signing bonus. Hed still cost us around 6 million this year I beleive.

Dr. Z from SI reported that the deal with the Raiders was Samuels, Gardners or Ramsey, and a lower rounds draft pick. I don't think the Bolts make this trade at least right away. I think they still hold out hope of trading down to get Rivers(the QB they really want) and some more picks or players. However throwing Ramsey to them may give them a QB they like, one with NFL experience. |

I have to agree. The only thing I can say in the defence of such a trade is that it is never good for a team to have a QB controversey. But thats a weak arguement.

We'll see what happens on draft day, who knows what to beleive at this point.

No way the #1 pick goes for Samuels and Gardner. Not even close. If you add Ramsey and a round 2 or 3 pick next year, you are in the ballpark. I just hope they do not trade Samuels AND #5 to get the rookie.
Now, as far as "Why would they trade Ramsey for the #1?", the reasoning is that they would then take Manning, and still get Taylor #5. A couple things to remember: - Gibbs has said over and over, he wants "Redskins" - true team guys - Bailey would not work with the team in structuring his contract - GONE - Samuels apparently will not work with Skins on his contract - Gone??? - Also, Samuels cap hit is much higher than any other team member this year AND next year. His play the past 2 years is not even close to that level. - Gibbs had to see how much better Winey handled left tackle while Samuels was out. MAYBE they believe they can unload a "problem" and develop a player they have now into a good left tackle. - Right tackle may be more important than left tackle (for this season at least) now that we have a lefty QB. In any case, this is a GREAT offseason. More interest and excitement than any time since George Allen's first season when he brought about a dozen big-name veteran starters. |
2000 was pretty exciting as well when we had what, 6 or 7 overall number one draft choices. We had more names on our team then anyteam in history. Some of those names were just names. Liek KiJana Carter, what was the logix there othat than the fact he was a overall number one draft choice??
But yes, its been a great offseason. I hope they are smart with the draft choice. They have done well with keeping their ideas a secret. I bet they make a lot of phone calls on draft day. |
Don't Trade Up.. Trade Down!
If we were to make a trade with the Chargers or the Raiders, I'd like to see them trade their 2nd early rounder for Rod Gardner, and then use the pick for a DT.. I personally like Igor Olshansky from Oregon. I keep reading that this guy is a beast... 6"6', 310, 4.9 in the 40 (wow), and 41 reps. Low key personality, high motor, plays from snap to whistle every play.
Sounds like our kind of guy! |
