On SportsCenter they said Springs had an abdominal surgery, not groin. What is with that?

Re: Shawn Springs to have surgery

They also said he'd be out 3-6 weeks.

Re: Shawn Springs to have surgery

Well, as I said earlier we have the depth to weather one CB injury. Wright can start and Rogers can. Springs is a huge loss though simply because he is so dominant out there.

Its not time to panic yet, but we are getting close w/Portis and Springs both out.

Re: Shawn Springs to have surgery

Springs is my favorite Redskin so it sucks to see him out. But better in August/early September than November/early December.

As has already been mentioned in this thread and others injuries are part of the game, and depth is a concern no matter what team you root for. But let's not forget that we have Gibbs, Williams, and Saunders. No other team has that. We (and almost everyone else) have talked all off-season about how getting Al Saunders was our biggest acquisition "Look what he did in KC, top ranked offense with Eddie Kennison, Marc Boeritger, and Samie Parker as his top WRs." And on defense, "Look at Gregg Williams, top ranked defense with an undrafted free agent leading the charge at middle linebacker. And he's got three defensive coordinators on his staff!" And don't forget Gibbs "This guy has won 3 Super Bowls with 3 different QBs and RBs. He won with Mark Rypien at QB! He won with Timmy Smith at RB!"

Obviously having your full starting roster and having talent helps. But, and I may be wrong, I don't think either way it's really talent that's going to separate us from the rest. It's our coaching staff and what they can do those 53 men (talented or not so talented).

It would hurt our safety depth, but can Prioleau play corner?

Chill, The Mighty Joe Gibbs conquers all fears in just one laugh.
Man that really blows guys I0ve just read the news man your guys are dropping like flies and with freaky injuries, even though the Portis hit was great

2 starter the good sign is that both might be ready at least by the second game it's better to get an injury know than during the season even thought its way better not get 1 at all
Aren't your top 3 wideouts hurt or are they faking it? Terry Glenn is a bitch so she definitely knows how to fake it...

The long term health of the Parcells/T.O. relationship isn't looking too good.

Gibbs and co. are great, but they can't get on the field and cover Terrell Owens!

I know its good to stay positive guys, but Gibbs HAS had seasons where he didn't win the Superbowl. yes, even with Gregg Williams, it's true..

SmootSmack 08-16-2006 12:35 AM

Re: Shawn Springs to have surgery

That's true, but I don't think there are any seasons when Gibbs threw in the towel before the season even started

illdefined 08-16-2006 12:41 AM

Re: Shawn Springs to have surgery

not throw in the towel, just keep a big eye on the waiver wire and see about some last minute trades...not involving 49ers..

I agree here, TAF. Injuries in today's NFL and depth concerns are the norm. Man just look around the league right now, actually I think we're still in good shape. If I had my druthers, I would rather the O-line go into the season completely healthy with Portis a little dinged than have it the other way around. The Panthers just got Steve Smith back, and you can bet they'll be holding him out of some things until they feel comfortable with the hamstring injury. We all know how those flare up. Speaking of the Panthers remember last year they lost their most dominant DL for the season and they still knocked on the door for the big dance. My only point is, we can't become unraveled, we just to allow the coaches to ,well, coach someone up till these ailments work themselves out.

As far as Prealou (sp) I think he's more of safety/nickel type.

I just rewatched the Bengals scrimmage again. Aside from the INT by Brunell, running totally vanilla schemes our first team offense looked GREAT. If we can get Portis and Springs back by the Cowboys game, we are going to be FINE.

Why didn't we get Andre Dyson or Ty Law?

I thought the same thing after rewatching the first two series. They were using a plain jane offensive scheme and ran only three running plays yet were moving the ball relatively well. I don't think anyone needs to go into panic mode just yet.

Passing game looked pretty good too. Portis will come back fine. I'm slightly more worried about Springs, but as long as he's back for the Cowboys game, I'm good.

Yeah. Didn't the starting defense play three series? And didn't two of those series end in 3-and-outs resulting in punts on 4th and 26 and 4th and 17 or something like that?

The starting D looked downright NASTY to me. Daniels, Salave'a and Griffin all got really good penetration.
