Didn't they use the "secret recordings" to write a book about it.

Not saying I'm an expert on the subject, but I can see a motive to be misleading about the information. If they're going to make tons of money off of it, then yeah, maybe there supplying a "secret recording" to make tons of money off of it.
I understand your point...but it's not just them. It's ex trainers, ex training buddies, ex girlfriends, ex friends, ex teammates. Basically, it's anyone that came into contact with him.
When 1 person says it, you can dismiss it...but when a whole village says it, it's hard to ignore.
Bonds is as guilty as OJ and he will get off scott free like him too.

Big difference between the "crimes" though.

haha, yeah...sorry, didn't mean to imply otherwise. Just pointing out how guilty someone can be without being caught. Of course OJ came to mind.

Let me say two things:

1. Bonds is guilty of steroid use. Come on, his trainer gave him the cream and the clear -- right? That is indisputable -- isn't it?

2. Charlie Hustle is the MAN! He should be in the Hall -- no doubt.

The ultimate would be for A-Rod to beat Bonds record, Bonds never being allowed into the hall of fame. That would kill him.

It will happen!

McGuire getting 23% of the HOF vote is an indication of what we'll be seeing from the "Steroid Era" hitters I think.

A-Rod's way ahead of Bonds' pace for career HRs too. All he has to do is stay healthy, which he's been good at so far. Actually...Bonds hasn't been very healthy (gee, I wonder why...) for a few years, so he's just helping everyone else catch up to him.

If Bonds beats Aaron, which is a disgrace, someone better come along and dethrone Bonds.

Monkeydad 04-24-2007 04:54 PM

Re: Disgusted with Bonds?

Pujols has a chance too, but he's a LONG way away from being in the discussion...too young and too early in his career.

I can see a-rod doing it. He's the only one right now though with a realistic shot to beat / break it. He has a proven track record of being healthy (which is a very good indication that he does not take steroids) and he's simply a beast.
McGwire will make it though...I don't think they wanted to set a precident that a suspected steroid user can make it first ballot. The sad thing is, McGwire admitted to andro, and he's still being kept off because of him ducking those questions in front of the grand jury.
The only two more guilty of taking roids than Bonds is Canseco and Caminiti.

Although, I have on very good authority that Sosa took roids in front of some others and offered it to them. I play softball with Shane Andrews and we've talked about Sosa and roids on many occasions.

Pujols averages 41.67 homers a season right now. So for him to catch Aaron, he'd have to keep up that pace for over 12 more years. That would make him 39 when he broke the record. That's possible...but that really is a long way away, and a lot can happen in that time.

jsarno 04-24-2007 05:20 PM

Re: Disgusted with Bonds?

Another young gun is Miguel Cabrera...he had 104 homers by the time he was 23.

FRPLG 04-24-2007 05:22 PM

Re: Disgusted with Bonds?

Thats a lot of homers. Over a ot of time. Not even worth a discussion until someone gets close to 500 really. A-Rod is realistic. But health will be the key.

I absolutely agree. Look at Griffey...he was tabbed as the guy to beat Aaron, and look at what happened to him.

Look at Manny Ramirez's numbers. Even if he hits 40 homers a year for the next 5 years, he'll still only hit 670, and he'll then be 39, going on 40 into the new season. He has some great numbers too...just shows you how good you have to be, and the even more important element is longevity.

Here are the guys with the best shots:

Alex Rodriguez 464hr by age 30
Albert Pujols 250hr by age 26
Andrew Jones 342hr by age 29
Vlad Guerrero 338hr by age 30
Adam Dunn 198hr by age 26

Assuming they all play to be 40, here is what they need to average per season to reach Aaron:
A-Rod: 29.10
Pujols: 36.07
Jones: 37.55
Vlad : 41.70
Dunn: 39.79

Shows you how good A-Rod has been that he is really that far outpacing people. Hell he's 7 a year in front of Pujols.

No kidding. A-rod is truly amazing.

What actually surprised me was that Andrew Jones had similar numbers / averages to Pujols.

Re: Disgusted with Bonds?

A lot of baseball players have cheated, but Bonds is one of a select few who has flat out lied in his involvement in this steroid case. Baseball would be justified in giving him a definate suspension right now for lying about his involvement and steroid usage.

If more evidence doesn't turn up, then once he serves his suspension, they'd pretty much have to reinstate him. But you never know what can happen, evidence wise.

Just a cover their ass publication to ensure that no roid user breaks the record. Come on now batting practice, preseason games and the all star game. Do those count for players today? If not then why do they count for him? I don't know because I don't follow baseball enough, but it sounds kinda shady to me. 50 is a nice round number too!

I guess I think it's later than it really is...

I've been up since 5:00am this morning, once I heard the birds I just couldn't go back to sleep, so I just got up and I've been doing school work all day.

My brain isn't really on the money at the moment.

I'm going to take a melatonin and ass out.
