Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
I just caught the latest Bourne tonight. You guys were right. Probably the sickest action flick I've seen in memory. Unlike the majority, I like the shaky cam (I'm a Greengrass fan- whoever he uses for cinematography always seems to work... check out "Bloody Sunday" and "United 93"). I'm able to see what's going on easy enough to know that the fight scenes are suppose to be unstable.
Oh yeah, all things being equal... Bourne would hand Bond his ass in a fight. |
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
I wanted to go to the midnight show for superbad but i couldn't. I'm definitely seeing that tomorrow.

was going to see it tomorrow night but I can't miss the game so I'm gonna go Sunday now. |
Re: What movie are you watching?
I read the first one a couple of years ago and I HATED IT!!!
For me, it was like the complete opposite of the movies: it was boring; it seemed pointless; and, again, it was boring. Aside from the basic premise and some of the characters' names it was very different than the movie, which is sometimes okay, but not in this case.
I read all three during a series of plane rides a few years back. A lot different than the movie, but worthwhile. |
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
superbad is super awesome seriously. GO watch it. I mean, it is so close to be a great 'classic' comedy. For some reason it was missing just a little bit of something that i can't pinpoint. I'm just being overly critical though. It was hilarious. F....ing hilarious. Great story with wierd funny shit happening. I can't say more about it.
It is a toss up between this and knocked up. They both are so good. I can't pick one. Knocked up probably had a better story so i'll give it to that. However, this is such a classic high school senior wants to get laid movie. One thing it wa smissing was a scene that was really really really funny. Like one that is extended. The movie had a bunch of one punchers. But the movie did have moments where everything came together. Next week i go back to school and i'm going to go watch it again with some people. |
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
I liked the Bourne Identity, but fell asleep through the Bourne Supremacy. That's what I get for starting a movie in bed around 10 pm.
The way people have been talking about the third movie, I guess I'll have to go back and watch the first two again. I don't actually remember too much about 'Identity' now that I think about it. |
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
Took the wife to see I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry last week. It was decent, definitely had its moments. I'd compare it to Big Daddy in terms of the kind of movie it is.
|
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
superbad was funny as hell. plain and simple funny from beginning to end. it had a few really funny scenes but was mostly just consistently funny jokes. this movie though is not for those who don't like but so much cussing cuz almost every 2 or 3 words seemed to be F-^&, P#@@*, C@#$, or the like.
now I can't wait to see War on Friday. |

I heard a lot of people hated that movie because they said it was basically a bunch of homosexual propaganda. Like it started out good and then it got all preachy. Also heard it should've been rated R instead of PG-13. I wouldn't know I haven't seen it. I know most of those people were probably just jugdgemental assholes but. *Shrugs* |

I don't really care. Its a movie. It meant good by preaching equality but it is still a comedy so there are going to be those gay stereotypes thrown around. Funny funny funny movie if you take it for what it is, a movie. |

I heard people got their knickers in a twist over the movie, Dogma. Hence the disclaimer at the beginning of the movie. But then again, I didn't really like Dogma. I mean it had it's moments but... I'll stick with Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back in all of it's awesomeness. |
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
I'm in a horrible mood today because I found out that I didn't get a job that I really wanted, which sucks for a number of reasons that I'm still too pissed to discuss at this time. Prior to finding out this horrible news I had made plans to see Superbad tonight, and even though I felt that I wasn't in the mood for a comedy, let alone leaving the house in general, I'm very glad I did.
Superbad was one of the funniest movies I've ever seen in the theater. I laughed my F'ing ass off from start to finish! The scene where Even (I think) was singing with the group of coke fiends was insta-classic. Likewise, MacLuvin will be the most overused, yet still funny, nickname since Steve-O, which is what I call my own father. The movie is not for everyone, 2 out of the 4 other people I went with didn't like the movie. They thought it was too long and pointless, because they don't know funny (they're anti-TBS). Also, I wouldn't take grandma to see it, unless she'd be willing to buy you liquor. However, if you're a fun-loving d-bag like myself I suggest you grab some friends and go see this thing ASAP! Regardless of the fact that I'm still so pissed about the job thing that I want to take a baseball bat to a room full of Ming vases just to let out 1/10th of my anger over this job thing, I still laughed my ass off and managed to have a good time for a few hours. |
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
War sucked pretty hard except for a couple fight scenes but the main fight scene went to see between Statham and Li lasted like 30 seconds and had one of the biggest piece of crap endings.
|
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
don't waste money on Halloween. The first half of the film was a bit creepy as it focused on Michael's childhood, but the second half was your run of the mill cliche horror film and I personally don't think it added much to the original. I actually got so bored, I was ready to leave with about 20-30 mintues left in the movie. and some of my friends let me know Balls of Fury was eh, but in no way compares to Superbad.
|
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
I just wanted everyone to know they NEED to go out and get the movie Hot Rod if you haven't seen it yet...
I laughed my ass off at this movie... I'm going to watch it again tonight with the old ball and chain, once I get her ass off of COD4... |
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
Anyone see the previews for this new Will Smith movie, "I am legend"?
[YT]fgyO8jl2pGM[/YT] I'm thinking it will be pretty good. Despite the worn out theme, I think I'm going to see this one when it comes out. |
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
Yeah, i can't wait. It looks pretty good...
|
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
going to see "no country for old men" tonight - anybody seen it?
|
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
^ Nope but BDK gave it a good review. I do want to see it.
|
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
"Old Men" looks really good and is getting good reviews, I'd like to see it too
|
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread

My buddy, who loved the movie, said that he really liked the ending but that "it wasn't Hollywood" but I bitch-slapped him and told him to shut up before he could elaborate on what that meant. I really want to see it. Edit: he also said that it's a film-lovers type of movie, so it's not for everyone. |

Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
I liked Hot Rod, it wasn't bad but it def. looked like a cheap budget film. I also want to see No Country for Old Men, I don't give a shit what reviews people give it because everyone has their own opinion, if it looks interesting then chances are I will see it, and i'm not a harsh critic at all, out of every movie i've seen there were only 5-10 ones that I def. wouldn't watch again lol. I saw Hitman last week, I really liked it, so much in fact that i'd pay to see it again, even though it got horrible reviews. I am Legend also looks like a good movie, i'm probably gonna see that soon as well.

I guess its the kind of movie you either like it or hate it,after I left my review I was reading the others,it was about 50-50 either way, they either liked it or completely hated it no country looks pretty damn good to me from the trailer, but I'll probably wait for the dvd I was dissapointed in superbad,I didnt think it was as good as 40 yr old or knocked up I might pay to go see national treasure 2 |
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
i didn't really like knocked up.... and i thought superbad couldn't hold a candle to hot rod...
I think it was about expectations.. i had none with hot rod. when the dude was beating on the car motor with a hammer like he was working on it to impress the chick I almost pissed myself... |
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
No Country For Old Men = Excellent!
Please go see it. |
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
I wasn't expecting much of hotrod to begin with, so it was a nice little suprise. Superbad was good, but I don't think it lived up to it's huge expectations, i thought it was kinda unrealistic too, I've never met a single cop in my lifetime that were as cool as those two were lolol, although it would be pretty cool if i did find one. National Treasure 2 looks pretty good but i'm probably not gonna go see it, i'll just wait 6 months until it's on HBO lol.

Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
im stoked about the new resident evil too... I'm not into too many thriller flicks, but that one looked pretty good and I liked the other ones...
|
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
No Country is the best film of the year.
I also want to see "There Will Be Blood", PT Anderson's new one with Daniel Day Lewis. |

i usually don't get too stoked about movies, but cant wait for i am legend, by Will Smith

it was eh... It had some cool moments and then there were some others that were just plain stupid. Also the character models for the infected were pretty weak for a movie of this scale. The trailers before the movie on the other hand were awesome with Prince Caspian, 10,000 BC, and most importantly The Dark Knight. Heath Ledger looks to have completely nailed the role of Joker and even got the laugh spot on as well. |

Totally nailed your description for I am legend. Weak plot. Weak effects. Mediocre movie. |

There were some plot elements that you just had to completely overlook common sense/rationality to go along with. Still, it was ok. I did not like the ending all that much, seemed thrown together... |
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
I was forced to watch the movie "Enchanted" this weekend with my wife and 3 daughters. They totally enjoyed it. I on the other hand, spent 90 minutes trying to gnaw through my wrists. Sure I earned cool points from my girls, but that movie was horrible in my opinion. Way too much cheesy fairy tale type stuff in it. At least there were two good looking chicks in it. And to think I could have watched Hitman or Legend. Oh well.
On another note, my cousin won Hannah Montana tickets over the radio on Friday. She is going to take my oldest daughter. I am so excited for her, but I cannot tell her because it is a suprise. Slowly but surely my daughters are weakening my manhood shield. I am getting soft. Testosterone help me! |
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
yeah i've got 2 girls and they're young, but I'm with ya. I'm watching girly movies all the time and saying things like "booty-butt" and "go potty" even when Im not around my girls. I told my co-worker I had to tee-tee the other day and he just gave me the wrinkled eyebrows of amazement....

Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
Watched "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" on Saturday night, since the wife is a big Harry Potter fan. I've never read the books, but the movies are pretty good, and I'd say this one was the best thus far.
Netflix wise, we have Shooter and Wild Hogs...and of course I've been put on notice to not buy any DVDs until after Christmas...damn my wife and sister, or I'd have Superbad and the 3rd Pirates movie, and would be getting Simpsons tomorrow. |
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
Has anyone had the chance to watch Idiocracy? Very funny movie that I think had a very limited theatre release before it went to DVD. if you have a chance and want to watch a stupidly funny movie. Fans of satire should enjoy it.
