Re: Rumor: Brunell heading to Seattle

Good riddance, Brunell can no longer win a game for a team. Part of it probably has to do with Gibbs conservative game plans, or maybe his gameplans were conservative because of Brunell. All I know is I would dread every abysmal week when I knew he was starting.
I like the idea of trading Brunell, we all know his play has and continues to fade, and for $ reasons. It would be a good move for the future, even though Palmer looked bad bad bad.

Does anyone else feel bad for Brunell? He always comes across as a genuine, great guy. When he came in after Campbell got knocked outta that game last year, a lotta people boo'ed him. I thought that was really f'd up. I didn't understand it and was pretty embarrassed as a fan.
I thought he got a raw deal here from the fans. He took way too much heat and considering what a classy guy he is yeah it was embarrassing.

Re: Rumor: Brunell heading to Seattle
Well my only question is still why even play Brunell more than a couple series if we know he will be traded? Wouldnt we instead want Collins and Palmer in more to get reps.

I mean, do we want to boost his value by letting him play or something? It still doesn't make much sense. Now if they went straight to Palmer or Collins right after JC's drive then this story would fall much better in place. Not saying you are wrong angry, but I am just confused.
I think he played as long as he did because it was in Jacksonville.

I also don't think there are any firm trade details in place, and I'm not even sure it's really going to happen. Seattle is interested and the Skins are listening, that's probably the extent of it right now.

I apologize for asserting this thread was a hoax. Here's what the wash. post has on it. If it's not going down, I wonder what prompted ch. 9 to report it. Somebody from 1 of the teams leaked it prematurely I guess.

I still don't see it happening, unless they really have something substantial to offer.

I"m also a little tired of people acting as if Brunell has no value to us. He has more value in DC than anywhere else. Collins is not going to win us any games & more than MB, will lose us some games if put under pressure. Yeah, Brunell can no longer carry a team, but he can manage the game & let CP & Moss do their thing. I feel much better w/him as our backup.

Yeah, I think we'd be lucky to get a 5th and I'd actually do a jig in Danny Boy's honor if we managed to get a 4th.
It would be a simple jig, but it would be heartfelt nonetheless.

Looking through that Seahawks site that Hooskins linked to, I'm surprised how excited they seem to be about this. Seneca Wallace must really blow.

Re: Rumor: Brunell heading to Seattle

I don't believe this trade is going to happen unless they were to offer a 3rd round pick or greater, which I doubt anyone would part with for Brunell.

We would essentially be going into the season with two quarterbacks if we trade Brunell and for a team that has playoff expectations I don't believe this is a situation they want to be in.

I thought they had really high hopes for him. I know he started a few games for them when Hasselback went down and played pretty good.

Re: Rumor: Brunell heading to Seattle

I really think any deal would be "saving face" deal.

This is what I mean...if the skins got a 4th or 5th...they could claim they essentially traded Brunell for Kendell....which would be a great deal.
OR
If they got a 6th, they could say they basically got their 6th back from this year who they spent on the backup of the future...essentially trading Brunell for youth potential at QB. Problem with that is....Palmer sucks so bad, he can't be on the active roster to take his place.....that is probably why no deal will go down (my opinion)

Knowing the Skins, I highly doubt they will pick up a free agent to replace Brunell cause they will have no clue on the playbook....The only other option would be to bring back Bramlet and have him #3 and have Palmer on the practice squad. I really think that the Skins would need a 5th though so they can claim they essentially traded him for Kendell....otherwise, it aint worth it... and if what someone said was true about the salary cap hit....that would mean locking up Cooley would be in jeopardy.

At this point, I'd say lock up Cooley, hold on to Brunell and get nothing by releasing him next year when we can afford it. It is not worth risking losing Cooley for a likely 5th-6th round draft pick.

Bramlet's in Atlanta, we lost the chance to have him this year. Hindsight being 20/20, we should have cut Palmer and kept Bramlet as a 3rd qb, as it would have given us the flexibility to deal Brunell.

Brunell could still end up being shipped out of here. As for Palmer, he had a bad showing last night, but they may still take a risk on making a third string. A huge risk at that.

I agree, but it's a good point - we shouldn't deal MB unless we get something substantial, and a 3rd certainly would be. He's way too valuable to us. No way Collins gets the #2 job IMO. I'm thinkin that this time the FO is being smart & setting the bar very high.

I don't know if "bad" really does last night justice. That INT that he threw was God awful! Even if that linebacker hadn't been there it was still a terrible pass that had a better chance to get picked off by the cornerback than caught by the receiver.
I know it was his first time on an NFL field, but it looked like it was first time in any kind of competitive situation. I think ARE would make a better 3rd stringer for us than that.

I would be very surprised at that. I think MB solidified his spot as the #2, barring a crazy trade.

I just can't see anyone having confidence in Collins.

I hope we keep Brunell. I'm fine with him being around in case Collins has to come in and he sucks. I like having two vets backing up JC. Brunell is fine as long as he doesn't have to play 4-5 games.

Everyone looks at other teams' players in a different light.

I think we tend to be way too harsh on our own players and we don't always realize what we've got.

if it is true, i say good luck mark brunell. i don't really dislike him as a starter, he's done some good things as well as bad. the one thing mark did for us, and all loyal redskins fans, in 2005 on a monday night game. was throw not one but 2 daggers in the heart of Dallas. in less than 4 minutes and came away with a win. For that one shining moment, Mark Brunell will be considered a legend, by beating the cowpokes on monday night.. good luck mark may the road rise with u as u go

Redskins Notebook
Seahawks Inquire About Obtaining Brunell

By Jason La Canfora
Washington Post Staff Writer
Friday, August 31, 2007; Page E12

JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Aug. 30 -- Many of the seminal moments in Mark Brunell's career -- and life -- took place in Jacksonville. It's also where the 15-year veteran became a Pro Bowler, where he received his final preseason opportunity to stake a claim to being the Washington Redskins' backup passer and, according to a broadcast report, where he played his final game for the team.

Brunell, fighting for the No. 2 quarterback job, was the subject of an inquiry by the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday, sources said, but no deal was completed after Washington's 31-14 loss to the Jaguars at Jacksonville Municipal Stadium. The Redskins could still deal him with roster cuts looming Saturday -- Atlanta expressed some interest weeks ago -- although the market for the 36-year-old is not deep.

Backup quarterback Mark Brunell returns to Jacksonville, where he starred for nine seasons with the Jaguars. "I have some great memories there." (By John Mcdonnell -- The Washington Post)
REDSKINS 2007
The Redskins dominate the first half with two touchdowns but fade in the second, allowing the Jaguars to score three times to win, 31-14. » Summary
Boswell: Take the measure of the team you've glimpsed this August, but the only question is: Do you still believe in Joe Gibbs?
Notebook: Mark Brunell, who is fighting for the No. 2 quarterback spot, is the subject of an inquiry by the Seattle Seahawks, sources say.
NOW THE GAMES COUNT
Jason Campbell was perfect in his one series against the Jaguars last night. A look at his preseason.

Thursday, Jason Campbell started and played just one series before Brunell jogged out before a crowd that used to cheer his name. He played the better part of two quarters and went 5 for 6 for 47 yards and a touchdown, with a nearly perfect rating, albeit against second-string opposition, giving Gibbs something to think about. Brunell, who remains beloved here for taking the Jaguars to the AFC championship game, spent Wednesday night catching up with old friends and had a legion of associates asking for tickets to the game.

"It feels great," Brunell said afterward. "I have a lot of great memories here. The people were very welcoming."

Sources close to Brunell said the veteran had been told nothing about a trade being completed, or even close, after the game. Collins has outplayed him this preseason, but the other option for a third quarterback -- rookie Jordan Palmer -- is nowhere close to being ready for the NFL and went 2 for 8 for 10 yards with an interception (returned for a touchdown) and a rating of 0.0 in more than a half of work.

Palmer looked like a QB who isn't super talented make his debut in the NFL.

I am going to give him a pass on this one because the first time out always sucks - especially for a QB.

Palmer is a guy in reality who was lucky to even be drafted.

I find it comical that some people are ready to cut the guy after his NFL debut.

Let's look at the reality of it. He was a low draft pick, he's very raw and this was no big secret when he was drafted. He definitely needs time to develop. I guarantee you the coaches are not in panic mode after seeing him play last night. They know what they've got in him, they've seen him up close and personal for months now. He's definitely a project and he was seen as this from day 1. I'm really not sure what people were expecting from him last night.

they want to use wallace as a WR more and they dont think he is that great of a QB. They rather have a vet and wallace as the WR. Make him more into a ARE kinda deal.

See this summary of their game last night from AP wires. Under 50% comp. & 2 picks, and that's against the scrubs! Ok, maybe his recievers dropped a lot, it is a rainy seattle tradition since Largent retired, but still these nos. are hard to justify in a preseason game.

SEAHAWKS 19, RAIDERS 14: Marquis Weeks ran 11 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter to lift host Seattle. Seneca Wallace, playing into the fourth quarter while starting quarterback Matt Hasselbeck sat out his second complete game this preseason, was 12 for 26 for 181 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions.
Daunte Culpepper completed 11 of 19 passes for 108 yards and led visiting Oakland to its only touchdown.
