I think you're right in that Josh Johnson would still be available to us in the 3rd round but I think we have to many holes to fill to be using a 3rd round pick on a QB. Especially since that QB is going to be a 3rd stringer for the next 3 years. Also, considering that our last two 3rd round picks were Derrick Dockery and Chris Cooley, I have an enormous amount of faith in our front office to find talent at this point in the draft.

Also it's possible that Jordy Nelson could be available with that 3rd round pick, though I bet that the guy will go early in the 3rd round, and it seems very possible to me that Snyder could use that 1st round pick on Devin Thomas, especially if a deal with Hacket falls apart.

Dre Moore right now is projecting among some scouts as a 2nd round pick. Of course Troy Smith was projected as a 3rd round pick last year and ended up going two rounds later. Personally I would love to acquire the guy, but I don't think he last past our 3rd round pick, if that.

Besides Josh Johnson threw WAYYYY to many interceptions last year :D

Defensive Ends
 

A few Defensive Ends to watch out for. Some of these are guys that might be available when our 3rd round supplemental comes up. Others will be available when we pick in the 5th round and some could be available after the draft. In order to make it on this list you had to:

1. Be available in the late third and beyond
2. Have either a good amount of TFL or sacks. Preferably both
3. Can't have major character issues

The prospects are listed in no particular order but Jason Jones, Johnny Dingle, and Wallace Gilbery are my favorites. Rudolph Hardie has also emerged as a favorite, but credit goes to ThatGuy for bringing him up.

Jason Jones - Eastern Michigan - Not a real sack master, but had an amazing amount of TFL (Tackles for loss) with 19.5 in 2007 and 18.5 in 2006. Has the size to play LE and has experience at DT, though he doesn't have the bulk to play before 3rd down at the 3 technique. Intangibles have been given a thumbs up, and personally I could picture him getting regular playing time about midway through the season.

Heres a list of safety prospects that the Redskins could go after on day 2. My personal favorites are Tyrell Johnson, Craig Steltz, and Jamie Silva. I'm also starting to like DJ Wolfe because of the fact that he can play either safety position as well as cornerback. Plus he was productive at the colliegate level.

Would have chemistry with Landry should the opportunity to play came up.

Man, thats probably the best small school prospect in terms of production, and he has the size to play LDE. Plus he had 20 TFL last year. Can't believe I missed him.

However, with the way things are going I wouldn't be surprised to see our first three picks being G, WR, and CB (in no particular order). With all these guys available late in the draft I could easily see the Redskins take what they think is an Anthony Montgomery type prospect at DE either with the compenstation pick or our fifth round pick.

However this desire to draft a QB sometime in the draft is getting on my nerves because not only do late round QB's not make teams but drafting one could cost us a productive college player that we could easily turn into an overachiever. And last year, taking Jordan Palmer cost us the chance to take a shot at a backup TE like Ben Patrick, who at one point was projected as a 2nd round pick.

So I guess my draft/what I want yet realistically see the Redskins doing goes as follows. I think at this point I have to many DE's but we'll see.

1st - Mike Jenkins - CB/S - South Florida (I mean I guess it's kind of like Miami)
2nd - Jordy Nelson - WR - Kansas
3rd - Robert Felton - G - Arkansas
3rd Comp - Wallace Gilbery - DE - Alabama
5th - Dennis Dixon - QB - Oregon or Colt Brenen - QB - Hawaii
6th - Rudolph Hardie - DE - Howard
7th - Jamie Silva - S - BC

Since the Redskins like Miami players so much it remains possible that the 3rd string QB the team is looking to develop could be Kyle Wright. Wright was the #1 recruit in the country during his senior year of high school and to this day he still has all the tools to succed as an NFL QB including size, arm strength, and good feet. If Zorn feels like he can help Wright turn the corner then look for the Skins to take him with their 7th round pick.

[B]Strengths:[/B] Possesses good height, decent bulk and room on his frame to get bigger. Footwork is sound and is smooth setting up. Displays a strong arm, puts good zip on downfield passes and can make all the necessary throws in the NFL. Shows above-average ball skills and sells play fakes well on play-action. Has quick feet, is an above average athlete and flashes the ability to buy time in the pocket. Mobile enough to get out of the pocket and appears comfortable throwing on the run. Is tough and has bounced back from more than his fair share of hits.

[B]Weaknesses:[/B] Inconsistent and has yet to reach his physical potential. Indecisive, holds onto the ball too long and takes too many hits as a result. Has a tendency to windup and overall release quickness is below average. Locks onto receivers, fails to see the entire field and misses too many open receivers. Lacks elite top-end speed, isn't going to make many defenders miss and isn't much of a big-play threat when scrambles. Sustained a thumb injury on his throwing hand that required surgery in 2006 and slowed by ankle as well as knee injuries during the 2007 season so durability is a concern.

[B]Overall:[/B] Wright was redshirted in 2003. In his first three seasons at Miami (2004-'06), he appeared in 23 games (21 starts) and completed 337 of 566 pass attempts (59.5 percent) for 4,058 yards, 26 touchdowns and 17 interceptions. In 2007, he played in 10 games (eight starts) and completed 141 of 241 pass attempts (58.5 percent) for 1,747 yards, 12 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. He also ran for 66 yards (0.8 average) and three TDs as a senior. Wright broke his thumb in 2006 and missed the team's final four games of the season. Last year he missed one game (and was hampered in others) because of knee and ankle injuries. Wright has enough physical tools to succeed in the NFL, including good size-potential, a strong arm and enough athleticism. However, he never was able to put it all together at the collegiate level and, from what we've seen on film, he may lack the instincts his position requires. Wright projects as a late-round pick or rookie free agent.

In the seventh round or even undrafted we should look at Bruce Hocker, he's a local guy, from Upper Marlbaro, and would be a project, he is raw, but has amazing leaping ability, which makes him a great red zone target, he has had some injury problems, but nothing really serious.

Just putting this out there. I don't know if this is a coincidence or what not, but I randomly picked up two old issues of ESPN the Magazine and in the College Football Section they have a small exerpt called "Man on a Misson." In this section they diagram a play for either a defensive or offensive player.

Ironically in the two magazines I looked at the players featured in this section were Marcus Mason and HB Blades. So if you guys see this section in a recent ESPN magazine keep in mind that the Redskins could be looking at that very article.

I think that as Sultan of Jordystan shouldn't all your draft scenarios include him?

I also think I like Groves or Hardie in your first scenario, but not both. They're both tweeners probably better suited to play DE in a 3-4.

If Merling isn't there (maybe even if he is) I'd like to trade down with Jacksonville and get their first (26) and third (71?) for our first and maybe a conditional 2009. I'd then like to trade that third and another pick to with Atlanta to move back up into the top of the 2nd round. So then we could do something like

I think you took Lynch a round to late, which is disapointing since he seems like the type that could eventually become a starter in this league.

With that said I think that the possible trade of Jared Allen will lead the Cheifs to select Brian Brohm at 17 or they could select Chris Williams at 17 and in turn trade back up for Brohm. But Brohm going at 17 will create panic among QB hungry teams like Baltimore, Chicago, and Atlanta and could put the Redskins in a perfect position to move down. In that case I would want/expect to see a draft as follows.

Early 2nd - Brandon Flowers - CB - VT (Could also be Antoine Cason if he falls this far)
2-20 - Duane Brown - T/G - VT
Early 3rd - Jerome Simpson - WR - Costal Carolina
3-21 - Andre Fullen - DT - Florida State (or Kendall Langford or Demario Pressley, maybe even Marcus Harrison if he falls this far though I would expect Langford to be the teams first choice)
3 Comp - Owen Schmitt - FB - WV (If Ali Highsmith falls this far then he could also be the pick)
5th - Chad Rhinehart - G/T - Northern Iowa (They could also look at DE here or would probably take the chance to grab Owen Schmitt if he was still here)

Ok people. Since we'll have gotten WR Devin Thomas and DL Kentwan Balmer in rounds 1 and 2 respectively here's what we'll look to do on day 2.

Not having a fourth rounder it'll make sense to reach a little and possibly gamble with our compensatory 3rd rounder. Scheuning is the versitile OL we need and should be solid value. Josh Barrett is a risky pick due to his history of injuries but we're not exactly desperate adding youth at that position so we'll take gamble with him. Again I'm banking on hope that Barrett's history of injuries drop him to the bottom of the 3rd and he's the best prospect available when healthy. Next up Marcus Buggs. From what I read he's a gamer. A little on the short side but a football player (an H.B. Blades type). Larry Grant looks to give competition to Khary Campbell and provide us with legitimate depth not just special teams play. I hope other teams aren't believing that Hanie is worth being drafted any higher than we will. He will garner us an A+ grade for that round,.
