Being underdogs in this rivalry is a good thing...at least recently. I wish I knew the record of the underdogs in Skins Cowboys games the last few years. The underdogs often win. |
Re: It's Dallas week!
As a Cowboy fan, I'm very excited about this week. It's always fun playing the Redskins, even though we've been a punching bag as of late. I think there are 4 reasons for optimism for the Cowboys, but there are a lot of things to worry about as a fan.
REASONS FOR OPTIMISM: 1.) Return of Romo: Yeah, everyone hates him, and he struggled a little before he got hurt, but finally Cowboy fans realize how important Romo is to this franchise. People get mad because he throws INT's and hasn't won a playoff game, but at least we've gotten there. Him being back should really help. 2.) Return of Felix Jones: Felix's return is almost as big as Romo's return in my opinion. In 4 of the 5 games the Cowboys have won this year, he's made significant contributions, and in many different ways (special teams, running, catching). Marion Barber will also get more rest now, which should greatly benefit the running game overall. 3.) Clinton Portis: Clinton Portis is the MVP of the league right now. 'Nough said. He's been simply amazing this year, and in my opinion, has really helped Jason Campbell mature as a QB. If he's unable to play, or plays but not at 100%, the onus is going to be on Campbell to win the game with his arm. Yes, Campbell is an emerging star with the talent to be a perennial Pro Bowler. He burned the Cowboys secondary numerous times (SANTANA MOSS!! OH HOW I LOATHE YOU!!!). However, he had the major threat of the run to help him out. It'll be interesting to see if he can win without Portis. 4.) The Chargers: Huh? Well, listen a sec. Last year, the Chargers at this point were at 4-5, and all but written off for the season. As you know, they rattled off 7 straight wins and were a couple of plays going their way from reaching the SB. So, the Cowboys are far from out of it. REASONS FOR CONCERN: 1.) "Secondary": God, the corners and safety's have just been awful this year. Pacman was an obvious bust, and Terrance Newman hasn't played since the Redskins game. Starting two rookies is a reciepe for disaster. 2.) Offensive Line: What happened? Flozell seems to have forgotten how to block speed rushers, and Leonard Davis looks to be back to his old self. The biggest reason why this team went 13-3 last year was the outstanding O-Line. They'll struggle to finish at .500 if the sloppy play keeps up. 3.) Undisciplined play: We saw it last year, but Dallas was able to overcome stupid penalties. This year, not so much. Larry Brown said this year on the Cowboys post game show that his teams took pride in being disciplined and not committing penalties. That passion stemmed from the head coach, Jimmy. This team, it seems to be an afterthought. I think it's a reflection of the lack of accountability that's around with Wade Phillips. You can be fair to players, but you have to know when to put your foot down. Wade doesn't seem to know how. 4.) Playing in Washington: Shit. Sorry, but you guys go INSANE whenever the Cowboys are in town. It feels like a college game. It's not like Philly where they just want an excuse to fight, but damn, you guys SERIOUSLY hate the Cowboys. That passion that the fans have is so helpful to players. I know when I played HS Football in Texas, when we would sell out our stadium that held 20K people, our team would get so fired up. I can't imagine 90 thousand. That's just crazy. Well, I'm excited for Sunday. A win by the Cowboys, and they have the potential to be 8-4 (49ers and Seahawks) before playing the Steelers at Pittsburgh. If they lose, I don't see how they'll be able to make the playoffs. Woo!!! Let's see a kickass game. |

Re: It's Dallas week!
Actually, Zorn gave the team the entire bye week off last week and the players were supposed to report back on Monday.
This after a 23-6 drubbing at home where the Redskins could not find the end zone, even on very short fields. So I guess we all have a reason to question actions of our respective head coaches during the bye for both clubs.
Well, last week was the BYE. Aside from injured players getting treatment, basically all coaches league wide encourage their players to get away from football, spend time with family, relax and recharge. Although THIS week is not the bye, and TO is running around mouthing off about the Cowgirls dysfunction and promoting his ridiculous new book. A perfect microcosim of your team. A team is the sum of it's parts put together by coaching. I've never seen a sum be so much worse than the talent of all it's parts before in my life. Zero discipline, awful coaching, and a whole lot of me-first attitudes. |

He has not practiced all week. Not even today. Even though Wade Phillips says Jones is being held out "as a precautionary measure", Wednesday is the most important practice day of the week for the road team, and a rookie who has not played in a month being held out of a Wednesday practice is not a promising sign at all. I doubt we will see Felix play this Sunday, and even if we do, it will be in a very limited role. |
Re: It's Dallas week!
I sure hate the Cowboys...(who doesn't)
But I do have to give it to sandtrap and pbhawk for giving a fairly objective view of their team. Don't get me wrong...I am in no way encouraging more cowboys fans to the site....just saying, it gives us some good insight into the minds of the those rooting for Satan. |
Re: It's Dallas week!
Love how we will honor Monk and Green at the game. Bout time. I feel like Jerry and the boyz do some crap like that to us every year, even though we've been pretty good at playing spoiler since 05. Also love the fact that Taylor will be honored at the NY game. I really feel like that will be a game similar to the one when Mara died and NY beat us like 36-0. I don't think anyone could've beaten them that day and hope it works out the same for us.
Well it's pretty clear that Phi,Was and Dallas are fighting for the 5th and 6th seed of the playoffs now so if any of us want to go to Tampa better be hoping we pull what the giants did last season because it looks it's going to be on the road in the playoffs
You are forgetting a really good Atlanta team in the mix there bud. They are pretty healthy and playing sound ball on both sides. Also both TB and Atlanta have comparatively weak schedules. The Beasts of the East will beat the living hell out of each other, giving the NFC South 3 playoffs spots in the process. Without Clinton and Santana in the mix, there isn't much chance for a W in Sunday night's game. Campbell is not a game breaker without Moss and the rest of our WR corp are a bunch of underachievers that haven't stepped it up very much. JC can't keep throwing it to Cooley all night!!!!! If Zorn plays Betts with a little Rock added, our running game might be fine, but we won't beat the Boys featuring a one dimensional attack. Randle El better get his game on!!!!!!! |

That is cool, but didn't we beat the Boys last year or was it in '06 when they honored Emmitt and co? I don't think special ceremonies affect gameplay that much, unless it is like a Mara or ST tragedy and even then it could end up being a negative, depending on how the team really handles it. |

The NFC South teams all also have to play each other. I think that one WC comes out of the East and one out of the South. Right now we are sitting pretty good for at least a WC, we just need to Win our games. Starting with this week's game. Go Skins! |

Go Skins!
The Falcons concern me, too. I hope the Panthers beat them this weekend. But like us, Atlanta's remaining divisional games are at home. Matt Ryan appears to be the real deal. The Falcons do what you need to do: beat the lousy teams (Chiefs, Lions) at home, where they're 4-0. We currently have a better conference record that Atlanta (5-2 v. 4-3), but the Skins still need the Falcons to lose a few more games. |

I'm pretty sure it was the "Monday Night Miracle" in 05 that the 3 headed shitbag was inducted into the ring of honor or whatever it is. And I should've said that Moss has been pretty good at playing spoiler since 05, because let's face it, he is a cowboy killer, with exception of Cooley later that year in the total dismantling of the Cowboys- (35-7?) and Portis being his usual self. Either way, hope it all works in our favor. HTTR |

I am not saying that the NFC South is better; other than Carolina - I don't think they are, but in the end all that matters is the W/L and I think the South will have Carolina and one other going better then 10-6. |

I want to believe that Zorn is smart and will make sure we throw a lot of deep balls against a very poor secondary. If not, then we are in trouble with Portis being hurt. I fear saying too much that isn't considered "glass full" around here. |

Im sitting here listening to Dexter Manley talk about playing the Cowgirls back in the day. He's telling a story about when Tony Peters told Randy White during a game that he had slept with his wife. Dexter was a rookie and on the sideline when White came over to the sideline and started fighting with Peters.....ahhh.........those were the days.

Re: It's Dallas week!
This game scares me. Coming off a blowout loss to the Steelers at home (yes a blowout, considering the only points the Skins scored came off 2 early mistakes within the first 5 minutes of the game), with a sputtering offense...and quite possibly no Portis, it just doesn't look good.
Don't get me wrong, the Cowboys are struggling too, 2-4 in the last 6. But they get Romo and Newman back, which could be the spark they need. The Redskins will have to dig deep and really put pressure on the Cowboys to perform. If the Skins can get up early and force the Cowboys to abandon the run, we could see a repeat of the 1st game. When Romo is pressured, he makes mistakes. However, if Alexander/Betts/Cartwright cannot run the ball, it's going to be a long day for Campbell and the Skins offense. And because this is a rivalry game, you can throw out all the records, injuries, trivial things because these games get ugly. No prediction here...just hope that those Skins that can, step up, and they are able to contain the Cowboys. |

Newman was back from injuries for the first time the Boys played the Redskins, and Moss made him look average. If he's really healthy, that will be huge. Honestly, I'm a little disappointed that Portis might not play. If the Cowboys somehow win this thing (which I just don't see happening, even after putting on those lovely rose colored glasses), the talk will be not of the win, but of the fact that the Redskins were down their best player. It's always better to see two great teams play at full strength. |

I totally agree and that's my point 10-6 might not get you in the playoffs this year and with the easy schedulle on the South it seems more likely that Philly, you and us are fighting for 1 wildcard spot, because I don't think it's goign to end like last year when 3 of our division went. That's why this game it's a must for both teams division record will play a huge factor in december. |

That is incorrect. It was the Redskins game that Newmans real injury was revealed. All through training camp he was said to have a "groin strain". It was after Moss torched Newman for that 53-yard bomb that we knew T-New was not healthy and should not have played in that game. It was after that game they discovered the sports hernia. He had surgery and sat out the last few weeks. And now hopefully he is back. |

Re: It's Dallas week!
From the insider ...
Zorn is already given to spending more time in practice on certain situational drills than Gibbs and his coaches were - such sessions are more of a staple in the West Coast Offense practice schedule - but with so much to cover and only so much on-field time available, Zorn is trying to balance the need to focus on normal first- and second-down play with these other elements (as an aside he thinks the two-minute offense, in general, is operating fairly well). Maybe I'm missing something....but I don't see the success we are having with the 2 min. drill. I see us eating up a lot of clock. Perhaps it's because I'm measuring it against the likes of the Colts 2 min. drills. |
Re: It's Dallas week!
No portis is a big problem, but i think betts and alexander have the ability of filling in well. IMO this game in going to depend on how well JC plays because our running game isn't going to be able to bail him out. We need to score eatly to make a statement. I think this is going to be a very different game than the monday night game. We have the potential to win but we have looked weak lately. Who is inactive?

Hey, maybe one of you Cowboyz can answer something for me. Why was Boonell throwing with his right arm two games ago? I don't know perhaps he has been throwing right handed for a few games now but I was confused as to why he was when he is a lefty?

Re: It's Dallas week!
I don't see why everyone is making such a big deal about homo and newman coming back, If I remember correctly they played when we beat them in dallas. And as I've said again and again that game was'nt as close as the final score. Let's just hope for Portis to be able to do something and that Moss is healthy so he can abuse newman and dallas again.
