Re: If You Ran the Redskins...
1. Cut Springs and possibly smoot (would prefer to keep one of them for rainy day), 1-2 OL, one of our defensive ends, and Marcus Washington (if we find him a replacement)
2. Make at least one big sign from the free agent crop, we could use any d-lineman, o-lineman, and even a solid OLB (peppers, suggs, haynesworth, jordan groos, stacey andrews, jahri evans, bart scott, michael boley, leroy hill) snagging one of these guys gives us an immediate starter, and one less immediate need to assess in the draft 3. Draft needs in order a. O-line, with all the talented Tackles or Guards in this years draft we should be able to grab a starter with a mid round pick, I hate to say this but samuels, thomas, jansen are all getting too old b. If we dont get a defensive lineman in free agency (which we wont thanks to the amazing addition of jason taylor 123156 years old, we could have had the space to add peppers or suggs, wow we messed that one up), we need to target a fluid pass rusher. its agonizing to watch our d-line try (yes only try) to get to the quarterback. We could target guys like selvie, orakpo, and michael johnson c. IF we address our needs at OL and DL we need a replacement for Washington right away, hes lost his step and with london (hall of fame me?) aging we could add a guy like cushing, laurinitis, of curry to eventually take the reigns. I lie laurinitis becasue he has the skills to play OLB until london retires then we can move him back inside 4. we need to let our young talent develop, I know we all got our hopes up after our awesome start but we need to realize our team will only get worse with our aging starters if we dont give our young talent a chance to develop. We need rinehart, thomas, and kelly to grow in the offseason, I WANT RANDLE EL back in the slot next season where he is the biggest threat |
Re: If You Ran the Redskins...
Blowing the roster up isn't going to help anything. There needs to be some changes to key positions, but wholesale changes aren't going to happen for many reasons.
For now- QB, TE and RB are set. Actually TE and RB have enough talent to shed some, but Yoder isn't good enough to attract attention, and Davis hasn't done anything meaning the only one who would provide value is Cooley who should be untouchable. OL- We'll need a new LG. Kendall's a free agent even if he doesn't retire. A new tackle. Reinhart could be one of those guys. We'll need to either draft or sign the other and look for a back up or two. Fabini should be gone. Samuels or Jansen may be WR- I'm not giving up on Thomas or Kelly, but I have on Randle El. Since I don't expect either of the current rookies to be better than a third reciever next year we either need a number 2 reciever(it seems there's nothing in the league harder to acquire) or someone good enough to force Moss to that roll. DL- We've got plenty of depth. We need one player who will make the others around him better. Don't know whether it should be inside or outside. We should probably resign Evans. LB- I like HB Blades. If he's a starter we need two backups. If he stays a backup we need a starter. Of course if Washington decides to take a paycut and a backup job, lesser playing time may make it possible he'd play more. Several of our DE's also played LB so that may help take care of that. DB- The one place we have a glut. I'm even willing to lose some talent here. Of course if Hall leaves then that takes care of that. But if he resigns either Smoot or Springs could be traded. I think I'd draft as many linemen in the draft as possible. If I thought the only linemen at my spot were a reach I'd trade down. |
Re: If You Ran the Redskins...
1. Cut Springs, Washington, Griffin, Daniels, Fabini, and Jansen. Sign everyone else.
2. Get Dre Moore of Tampa's practice squad. 3. Sign Jordan Gross and Karlos Dansby(Linbacker). Gross can play left tackle and Samuels can move to right. That gives us two awsome left tackles and Heyer backing them up. 4. Draft a stud tackle or trade first pick for one. Use the rest of the picks for Oline and a linebacker. 5. Hire Cowher. |

2. Release M. Washington: I think we all know why 3. Sign at least two big name free agents (preferreably on each line). Synder has surprisingly gotten away from the big splash the last few offeasons. 4. Draft an OLB in the first round. (Rey Malauga USC) 5. I agree with you D-Bag359 we need to look for a quality back in the 3rd round to get Portis and Betts some air.
~~~~ I am with youm, bring Hall back he has been a nice addition esp late in the season. We already have Golston, Montgomery and Alexander. What we need is a stud replacement for Griffin not another comparable player. The players that really need to be replaced are Griffin, Springs, Washington, Jansen, Smoot. They are always hurt and are a liability, it makes us shorthanded especially, when they are starters except for Smoot. |
Most years we keep five tackles, he would not have to make the team, if he sucks. I just think that Tampa has alot of talent at that position and could not make room for him. Maybe he beats one of those guys out. |
Re: If You Ran the Redskins...
Oh another thing that needs to be done, getting rid of Larry Michael. Honestly we don't need another mouthpiece. And even though I don't always agree with him we need more guys like Riggins that aren't on a leash with Snyder on the other end.
If I was Dan Snyder...
1. Hire Tom Modrak as GM and cede all authority to him. Our last 49 draft picks have yielded a total of two ProBowlers (Cooley and the late Sean Taylor). We need a top down change in culture so if I was Snyder--I fire myself and hand the keys to a football man like Modrak. Let him decide if his direct reports --Cerrato, Zorn, Scott Campbell-- should stay or go. 2. Lower my profile except when it comes to community/charity events. 3. Meet with Modrak 4 years to the date you hire him and determine if he deserves an extension or not. If so, great; if not, find a new GM and repeat 1-4... |
I wouldn't mind him. In fact, I am almost less concerned about the actual person who would be GM--provided it wasn't some outlandish hire. I am more an advocate of changing the front office business model that Snyder has. I mean we have changed coaches, schemes, players, stadiums, uniforms, and ticket prices over the past 15 years. I think the time has come for a change in the business model... |
Get more WCO coaches on the staff.
1st hire a QB/ assistant for Sherman Smith like: DenverBroncos.com – Official Website Of The Denver Broncos Jeremy Bates Quarterbacks Jeremy Bates enters his third season on the Denver Broncos’ coaching staff in 2008 and serves as the club’s quarterbacks coach. Bates, who was Denver’s wide receivers/quarterbacks coach last season, owns six years of coaching experience in the NFL and worked with the New York Jets (2005) and Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2002-04) before joining the Broncos in 2006. Bates was a key part of the Broncos’ offensive staff in 2007 as their wide receivers/quarterbacks coach, helping the offense rank fourth in the league in yards per play (5.7). A pair of second-year players flourished while working with Bates as Brandon Marshall totaled the third-most receptions (102 for 1,325 yds.) by a second-year player in NFL history and Jay Cutler posted the third-best completion percentage (63.6) for a season in Denver annals. In his first year with the Broncos during the 2006 season, Bates was an offensive assistant and worked with Offensive Coordinator Rick Dennison in coaching the offensive line. The Broncos were one of only three teams in the NFL to have two running backs post at least 670 rushing yards with Tatum Bell (1,025 yds.) and undrafted rookie Mike Bell (677 yds.) both enjoying productive seasons. As quarterbacks coach for the Jets in 2005, Bates instructed a unit that was forced to use five different passers because of injuries. Despite the adversity, New York’s quarterbacks helped the club improve toward the end of the year with first year starter Brooks Bollinger posting an 87.7 passer rating and leading the team to a 2-2 record in its final four games. Bates, 32, was promoted to assistant quarterbacks coach for the Buccaneers in 2004 and worked closely with Head Coach Jon Gruden and Quarterbacks Coach John Shoop in the instruction and preparation of the team’s passers. In that capacity, Bates helped Brian Griese lead the NFL in completion percentage (69.3) in 2004 and set Buccaneers single-season records in that category along with passer rating (97.5) and yards per passing attempt (7.83). Bates began his coaching career with Tampa Bay as an offensive quality control coach from 2002-03. Tampa Bay’s offense in 2003 was arguably the most productive in franchise history as Bates assisted a unit that set single-season records in total offense (340.8 ypg.) and passing offense (237.8 ypg.). In addition, the club ranked among the league’s top 10 in both categories in the same year for just the second time in Buccaneers annals. |
1st hire a QB/ assistant for Sherman Smith like:
Pat Shurmur Quarterbacks Coach One of the rising stars in the NFL's coaching ranks, Pat Shurmur is in his seventh season as the Eagles quarterbacks coach and his tenth as a member of Andy Reid's staff. In this role, the 43-year-old Shurmur has helped Donovan McNabb earn three of his five Pro Bowl berths. In 2004, McNabb turned in the most productive season of his career, establishing franchise records in QB rating (104.7), completion pct. (64.0), and passing yards (3,875). In fact, McNabb became the first quarterback in NFL history to have a season with 30-plus TD passes (31) and fewer than 10 interceptions (8). ""Pat's a very good football coach and teacher,"" said head coach Andy Reid. ""He's received a lot of attention from other teams to be a coordinator [in the last two years] that's going to happen for him."" In 2002, Shurmur earned praise for his poise displayed after McNabb and Koy Detmer went down with injuries late in the season. Down to little-used A.J. Feeley, who had not started since his junior year at Oregon, the Eagles went 4-1 down the stretch. Feeley, a 5th-round draft choice in 2001, was traded to Miami in 2004 for a 2nd-round pick in the 2005 NFL Draft. Similarly, Shurmur withstood another McNabb injury (torn ACL) in 2006 and helped back-up Jeff Garcia step into the starting role and lead the Eagles to a 6-2 record (including playoffs). Prior to his injury, McNabb was an early-season candidate for league MVP honors, topping the NFL charts in most passing statistical categories. Last year, McNabb played his best football to end the season (65% completion percentage, 6 TDs, 1 INT, 3-1 record in final four starts) after a season-ending knee injury one year earlier. His first three seasons in Philadelphia were spent as the Eagles tight ends coach, helping develop three-time Pro Bowler Chad Lewis. |
If I ran the Redskins...
I would take a rather drastic approach this offseason and look to clear off as many of the bloated deals off our cap that we can. Even if it means taking a hit in the short term, I would like to see the front office make the total commitment to building this team through the draft and we need to trim some fat. Guys like Springs, Marcus W., Griff... some key veterans need to go and we need to get this team younger! The move to bring Jason Taylor here for a #2 was a horrible mismanagement of resources by Vinny. Just horrible, and it showed that when the chips are down Vinny can't help himself and ends up making a bad decision. Just imagine what that #2 could have been for us this year. A starter along the offensive line? A starter along the defensive line? A starting LB? Well, I'm assuming alot because knowing Vinny we would probably just draft another WR. :vomit: |
Re: If You Ran the Redskins...
I've been giving this a lot of thought and here's what I'd do, if I ran the 'Skins:
1. I wouldn't panic. We have some strengths and some weaknesses. We aren't as good as we looked when we were beating the 'Girls and the Iggles on the road but we aren't as bad as we looked against Baltimore or Cinny either. Blowing up the roster is unnecessary and if we ditch Zorn after one season, then we will be as fickle as the media likes to portray and it will be a long time before we have any stability in the coaching staff. We'd be well on our way to becoming the Raiders. 2. I'd focus in free agency and in the draft in strengthening our weakness rather than trying to make a big splash or blowing up the roster. I'd go for the best young OL and DL available and do what it takes to sign them. We're good enough at finessing the cap that we ought to be able to add one starter on each side and some much needed depth. In the draft, I'd go for more line help. 3. If we don't have a lineman ranked high enough on our board when we pick in the first, then I'd look for another defensive playmaker at linebacker or in the secondary. 4. Someone made the point above (and I think it was a good one) that in terms of coaching staff, the only change I'd make would be to let Zorn start to bring in more of his people on offense and let them help implement his system. |
Re: If You Ran the Redskins...
1. Resign key players on the lines. Demetric Evans and Pete Kendall must be retained. I would offer DeAngelo Hall a contract for about 3 years and 12-14 million, with 4 million guarenteed. It will allow him to stay here, and compete for a starting role. If he thinks he can do better elsewhere, I doubt that, but more power to him.
1a. Announce the release of defensive backs coach Jerry Gray, Receivers coach Stan Hixon, and offensive line coach Joe Bugel. 2. Extend the contracts of Anthony Montgomery, Carlos Rogers, and Jason Campbell for 4-6 more seasons with larger-end signing bonuses. 3. Release Shawn Springs, Fred Smoot, James Thrash, Casey Rabach, and Todd Yoder. This will create an issue at corner, but right now, I feel like Griffin, Taylor, and Marcus Washington will all have a role on the 2009 Redskins. Springs probably won't play a 16 game season again, and offered the choice between extending him to lessen the cap hit, and moving on, I think we move on. 4. Announce the move of Jon Jansen from T to C. Colt Brennan becomes the 2nd QB, while Todd Collins stays on as the 3rd QB. 5. Chad Rinehart is the opening day starter at RG. Randy Thomas becomes a utility lineman, who works some at Center to help us out in a pinch. 6. We draft one of the many offensive tackles in this class with our first round pick, and he competes right away to start with Heyer. 7. We add a defensive lineman in the third round of the draft, a running back in the 5th, and our Center of the future in the 6th. 8. Redskins re-sign Leigh Torrence in camp after he gets cut by New Orleans, and make a play for Oakland Franchise CB Nnamdi Asomugha (probably an unsuccessful one), but Texans CB Dunta Robinson would be a nice consolation. Justin Tryon rounds out the depth. Redskins sign New Orleans WR Devery Henderson. 9. Corneilius Griffin, Jason Taylor, and Marcus Washington are all potential training camp releases, depending on how the youth does and how well they take care of their bodies in the offseason.
while I'm not sure how much I agree with this I will just say, do we really need to wait for Torrrence to be cut? Did the Saints pick him up off waivers and assume the rest of his contract or did they sign him after he cleared for the rest of the season. |
Veterans that we seriously need to look to get rid of:
Springs Washington Jason Taylor Griffin Rabach McIntosh (his knees will never allow him to reach his true potential) I would consider re-signing Hall at a reasonable deal to replace Springs, but he's certainly not worth breaking the bank over. Rogers inability to catch INTs is a glaring issue and I was considering putting him on the list of guys to get rid of, but we probably can't afford to replace both starting CBs in one offseason. Both lines need desperate attention through the draft and free agency. Special teams also some big time help at punter and kicker. Spend some loot here in free agency and let's get some capable guys in here already. |
I don't know...that's TV talk...how about anyone different whether proven or not. This guy has had 10 years...we have even replaced the secretaries since Snyder took over and I don't think it's their fault. The only time I ever felt like the Redskins were truely going in the right direction since Snyder has owned the team was during the second half of the season Marty was here. VC was gone and Snyder was in the background and the team really seemed like it had a plan and was heading somewhere. And I am probably the biggest Gibbs fan in the world but even during the years he was here you always knew in the back of your mind that he was going to leave eventually and we would be left with VC & Dan again. |
I don't know...that's TV talk...how about anyone different whether proven or not. This guy has had 10 years...we have even replaced the secretaries since Snyder took over and I don't think it's their fault.
The only time I ever felt like the Redskins were truely going in the right direction since Snyder has owned the team was during the second half of the season Marty was here. VC was gone and Snyder was in the background and the team really seemed like it had a plan and was heading somewhere. And I am probably the biggest Gibbs fan in the world but even during the years he was here you always knew in the back of your mind that he was going to leave eventually and we would be left with VC & Dan again.
lol actually im pretty sure danny did fire a bunch of secretaries and staff when he came in or early on his tenure. i remember alot of danny bashing for that with people saying stuff like "yeah fire her b/c she got the address wrong on that letter and thats why we didnt go to the SB". go skins!! |
