Inherited. Dad was from Virgina, then moved to New Mexico to go to school. Pop! Out came a Redskin fan from NM.

In fact, there is a fair amount of Redskin fans in NM. My guess it is all the rebels, who wanted to rebel against there Cowboy family members. Or just sick of all the stars and cowgirl fans floating around here.

I am a born and raised Canadian, and live in Calgary (Just above Montana). I have been a Skins fan since back in 1986-87, I was 10 at the time. My dad has been a Bears fan his whole life and when the Skins played against them in the playoffs that year he was going on how the Bears were going to kill the Redskins and so I bet him my allowance ($5) that the Skins would win. The Skins went on to win that game and then of course the Superbowl and I was hooked. I have been to FedEx twice to see them play and my first ever visit I got to go on the field and had my picture taken by the goal post. I also drove to Seattle a few years back to catch them playing there. This year I am heading to Atlanta for their game there.

Hail to the Redskins, Hail Victory.

That Bears-Redskins playoff game was the one where Darrell Green returned a punt for a TD despite pulling a muscle. What a stud.

Re: Why you chose to be a Redskins fan:

I became a Redskins fan in 1972, the year they played in the Super Bowl losing 14-7 to the undefeated Miami Dolphins. I grew up in the DC/Maryland area, but when i was in the 10th grade we moved to Phx,Az. I had been to RFK 2 times before we moved , watching a Cowboys game with Kilmer still the QB. I can remember how crazy it was with the stadium sits moving up and down from the fans. We did win that game against the Cowboys. When i lived in AZ this was way before the internet and NFL Ticket. I would watch highlights on Monday Night football with Howard cosel and read the newspaper. As i grew older i would go to Sports Bar to watch the Redskins before i got DTV. Now I watch every game on NFL Ticket and also get Washington Post and comcast on my DTV package. When speaking about the Redskins i refer to the team as we need to draft this player. I feel like the team is my extended family. I was very upset when Sean Taylor was murder, knowning that he was so young and coming into his own. We as fans could see Sean growing and maturing right before our eyes. I also have 3 kids, 2 boys and 1 daughter which made me realiaze how short life can be. Sean RIP.
to sum it all up i may disagree with how our team does business but i will always be a Redskins fan win or lose. The different in California fans and Redskins is we support our teams no matter what their record is. I hope we our Owner can be Patient and Build via the Draft. Also lets give our coach and QB some time to get this ship turn into a Championship Team again.:bdh:

Welcome to the board skins89moss! You just brought back some memories by mentioning Howard Cosell. I kinda miss the guy. :)

I honestly believe that. You can't "choose" to be a fan of a team. You're just drawn to them for some reason, and if you're a real fan you feel a passionate connection that you can't get away from, no matter how many losses they ring up.[/quote]

Eloquently put. I agree -- in my case it wasn't hometown, since I've always lived 3,000 miles away from D,C, Nor was it family; though my Dad was a rabid 'Skins fan, my TRUE father (Grandpa) was a Niners guy. I don't really know exactly why, just that all my life all I can remember is living and dying with the Burgundy and Gold.

And it will always be that way. Hail.

Yes it was, that was an amazing play. Who couldnot become a fan of the Skins after that and Darrell Green has been my all time favorite player ever since.

These posts always get me; doesn't make you any less of a fan but that could've been nearly any team. No legacy behind it but whatever, as long as you're a loyal fan that's good in my books.

Anyone who comes all the way from Canada to attend Redskin games is a great fan as far as I'm concerned.

I became a fan in the early 80's. I grew up in Alexandria during the Smurfs, Hogs, Diesel years. After the Pledge of Allegiance we sang Hail to the Redskins and if the Skins won a game we would not have homework. We even had Redskin days. I had the opportunity to meet Riggo before the Superbowl against the Fins. To this day he is my all time favorite player. No one did it like #44.
I worked in the NFL for a couple of years and during that time I would always try to sneak into the pressbox or talk with other employees who were Skins fans.
I love the Skins no matter what. Yeah there are times they piss me with some of their bone headed moves off the field off but at the end of the day I could not imagine pulling for any other team.

I still have a hard time watching the Skins-Raiders Superbowl highlights (if you call them that).

RFK was the greatest place to watch a game. Nothing like that place during the playoffs.

Shame that you don't see things like this in the schools anymore. Hard to find people that are true to their local teams.

Side note, what'd you do with the NFL if you'd like to share?

It happened so early, i have no recollection. Thank god it happened though. Now, if we can get Dan Snyder and Gilbert Arenas in the single prop cessna with faulty aeronautics, i would be ecstatic(jk).

I like the Redskins logo. Who wouldn't like a picture of a proud and wise warrior? I think we have the best logo in the NFL.
