I'll take that bet in a heartbeat. There's a good chance we won't win 3 more all year. We damn sure aren't winning 3 in a row. |

All we know is that the Skins won't loose THIS Sunday. And some would say even that is not a gaurantee. |
Re: Clinton Portis among players who have worn out their welcome
People here want to support their all-Pro back, but it's Portis' attitude that has finally worn thin among people.
When we lose, it's always everyone's fault but his. I hate people who have to blame others to feel better. Portis' act of dressing by himself and keeping himself out of practice and stuff makes him appear like a Prima Donna....they bashed T.O. for the same stuff...Portis is starting to get bitter because he knows physically he is close to being done and he knows he probably won't play another two years... |

Re: Clinton Portis among players who have worn out their welcome
If we could get this thread back from the depths of retardation, I'd have to say that I agree in moving Clinton Portis while he is still "serviceable". Don't get me wrong, I like CP, and as Matty said before, behind a good offensive line Clinton can still get it done. But This team has reached the point of where it needs to be blown up and rebuilt (preferably with a new GM and coach.) Sometimes you have to get rid of players who are valuable in order to build an entire team of valuable players.
|
Re: Clinton Portis among players who have worn out their welcome
I think the problem is that most teams aren't going to offer anything substantial for CP, at this point in his career. CP is older and getting injury prone. He is really in horrible shape right now...And his salary is almost as bloated as his ego...and i dont think any other NFL club wants to pay that much for a guy who has more yesterdays than tomorrows....

Re: Clinton Portis among players who have worn out their welcome
If the Redskins win the next three games I want your screen names changed to Tony Homo for a week. Any takers? Y'all could be Tony Homo 1, 2, and 3. If they lose one of those games my screen name can be changed to Jason Campbell sux for a week. How about it? Since y'all have so much confidence in the Broncos bwahahahaha, just a new coach that just got figured out (McDaniel and Zorn, same script new episode). Cowboys 22nd rank defense, hell Tampa Bay messed up their defensive stats, according to my Cowboy fan co-worker. The dirty birds????!!! I mean really. Y'all seem to forget these are the Redskins. They lose to teams they should beat, and beat teams they shouldn't beat. Been that way since Napolean met Josephione (aka Vinny).

Re: Clinton Portis among players who have worn out their welcome
Actually I can't change my name so we'll have to come up with something else for me, not that we have much to worry about. Skins aren't winning 3 in a row. Even if they had the Browns, Raiders, and Titans up next it wouldn't happen.

I'm so done with Portis. Has he ever played an actual full season for us?

Sure he has, 2008, 2007, 2005. And in 2004 he played in 15. |

Yeah, remember we gave Denver Champ Bailey and a 2nd round pick for Champ Bailey? We should have received a draft pick for that trade. |
Re: Clinton Portis among players who have worn out their welcome
I'm assuming you meant give the 2nd round pick and Champ Bailey for Portis. In hindsight, i'm sure most regret that trade now...especially given how Portis kind of petered out 3 years later. 2008 he hit the wall and no matter what excuses are made, his play dropped off dramatically. 2009 and i think reality has hit for even the portis fans. I respect Portis. I think his character and overall attitude is questionable at times, but there is no doubt he does the best he can on the field.
I partially blame the redskins "pound the rock" philosophy for him getting worn out. Somebody earlier in the year compiled a list of runningbacks and how many carries they have had vs. their production, and Portis was found to be at a high risk of breaking down. That was posted before this season, when the injuries absolutley caught up with him and he looked done. Looking at other backs on that list, Age had nothing to do with it if a RB didn't have as many carries. They had plenty that performed well into their 30's and higher. Earl Campbell comes to mind... With that said, we need to move on from him and his bloated salary after this season. Especially with the prospect of an uncapped year... |
Re: Clinton Portis among players who have worn out their welcome
Fun bit of news on his Yahoo profile:

What I have the problem with is how much they paid him. You just dont pay RBs that much money because then you are really locked in with them. |
