Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins vs. Cowboys)
Hard to blame the offense for anything that happened yesterday. We're on the backups of the backups, and the defense for Dallas has been ballin' week in and week out since the first time we played them. If we were going to be in this game, we were going to have to try to win it 13-10, or 10-7 or something.
So with that said, only one smackdown for me. The First Drive Quick change situation, and we need some sort of stop, at the very least, hold them to the field goal and see if we can't generate a big play off the kick return. Instead, we get a really poor effort, zero pass rush, poor gap responsibility, no interior line performance, and then Hall is covering no one on the TD pass. Even when Orakpo got close to a drive changing play, he couldn't seal the deal. There were a lot of good things that the defense did in that game (excellent on short yardage, as usual), but ultimately, it's a unit that hasn't had much of an injury list all year. They strive for mediocre. It's just too pathetic an effort from a superior group of players. |

AH isn't going anywhere with that contract and he has produced enough to warrant him staying here. Orakpo never should have been placed at OLB, and he will be a beast in 2 seasons. Fletcher is the only guy that is a total gamer on D. McINtosh and Horton are solid. Marko still is a question mark, and Rabach is a keeper if not just for depth,as is Dockery. |

I'm....so....tired....of the same BS about us being just 1 or 2 picks away from a SB. 1 or 2 years away. I mean if we are finally going to do it right....finally going to get a GM (as we did) and finally going to build a front office like it's supposed to be done....and finally getting a whole new coaching staff, we might as well "Rebuild" the team. Let the new staff build the team to their style. Instead of trying to put square pegs in round holes. Can they do what the Caps did....shed all their old dead wood and bring in new young healthy talent? |
First of all, I would put our needs as OT, QB, then RB.
Second of all, RB's can be found anywhere in the draft so don't worry, I have a feeling Shanahan will bring in a good RB here that doesn't have to be a 3rd rounder.
Well Shanahan could not talk enough about Alridge to DS. Apparently our coaching staff could not do anything with him but I'm betting Shanahan will know how to use him...which is why we picked him back up and put him on the PS. |

Still need depth GTripp. The offensive line sucks all around, but you have to keep some folks for depth. Landry is questionable, but the thing is still about depth. |
im laying the smack-down on anyone that says the skins need to draft a quarterback, or best player available. if they don't draft anything but linemen, my head will explode. and if they bring any of the current guys back, except with the intention of using them as back ups, someone needs their head examined
You don't just take an o-lineman for the mere fact that we need one. You have to make sure it's a quality pick for where you're drafting and not reaching for a player just because he's an o-lineman. |

I think I can say I saw all the CB and Safties atleast once play Superman and try to fly right by the player with the ball. |

It's time to blow it up and start over. Next year should be all about rebuilding while trying to stay competitive. |

He's actually small for a Center and gets bowled over by big good players. |
Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins vs. Cowboys)
^ rabach for depth plus he's not that bad. All I'm saying Is that we won't be bringing alot of players back. Shanny will rebuild completely
No , I would not go WR - TE . What I'am saying is this , I would pick a HOF type RB or DL as opposed to a Tackle that I believed was an above average T . I draft Sanders .
Good point Bud. I would imagine we'll get some FA's in here. I just don't know if any really good ones will be available. Then again, it wouldn't take much to be better than what we have. |

But...you don't just pick up the #1 at any position either. Basically what I'm getting at is Shanahan and whoever he brings in as OL coach (hopefully A.Gibbs) will look at all the offensive lineman coming out of the draft and decide which ones would work best in their blocking scheme. Whoever that is might not even be the #1 or #2 in the draft cause the #1 or #2 might not be best for the scheme but the # 4 might be. It's nice to think about getting the #1 OL or just picking a different position if we can't get the #1 but don't get mad if they pick up someone else cause they know what type of player fits their system. |
Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins vs. Cowboys)
It is all about scouting for your system. Zorn was screwed almost from the get go with leftovers from the Gibbs' system that obviously didn't work well in the WCO. Have to build a system with what you have to work with talent wise. For Shanny to be a success you have to blow the whol enchilada up and start from scratch.

I wish , anything is possible . I would like to see a solid foundation , hard core team first guys ... Monte Coleman , D. Grant , Dexter, C. Mann , Green and Monk ... oh and a " Hogs part 2 " . |

As long as they drop that win today thinking ... build a solid / strong stable foundation 1st . |
Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins vs. Cowboys)
In my opinion, one of the tangibles that made Shannahan and the Broncos so good with Elway is the Broncos organization dedicated over 25% of thier TOTAL CAP to just the offensive line. This provded quality talent up front.
You could put your grandmother behind that line and she would get 1200 yards a season. |

I was out of the country on business. I actually missed the Giants, Chargers and Saints game. Made it back in time for Christmas with the family and to see the Cowboys-Redskins though. |

Upon further review, laying the smackdown on our running backs. We really really miss Clinton Portis. We've got a bunch of matadors in the backfield now. No one blocks like CP

The problem is that it's the only thing he does well at this point. He lacks speed, vision, agility and durability to be an every down back in the NFL anymore. At least on a team that relies on a heavy dose of running the ball. |
Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins vs. Cowboys)
The problem with Cartwright, Mason, and Ganther is that they're all the same guy.
You simply can't reach for a guy based on need, that's not a sound draft strategy. In no particular order I would like to see us grab a QB, RB, and OT with our first 3 picks.
Can't argue with that! Reaching for any player/position is never good. Seems the're aren't any marquis LT prospects in the top of the draft (Okung isn't Ogden or even Samules when they came out). Hopefully our new GM can trade down slightly and get another pick in the first 2-3 rounds in the process. I would prefer to avoid Clausen (notre dame) and Bradford (can't take a hit). |
