Doesn't mean we won't bring him back in like three weeks on a one-year deal, but I really believe there are no discussions of an extension right now (or ever).

It's definately worth saying: none of the cuts have been any guys who had any guaranteed money in their 2010 salaries. That's probably good news for Griffin, Portis, Moss. Samuels is the exception to the rule, for obvious reasons.

The one cut I am expecting that hasn't come yet is Mike Sellers.

Then there's Andre Carter. The Redskins declined to pick up the contract option on Randle El, opting instead for a severance package. They could do the same thing with Carter, but I have to imagine that they will be picking up the next few years of his contract (through 2013? 14?).

If so, he might not make it.

If so, he might not make it.[/quote]Yeah, it's structured like a new contract though if picked up, so it would be something like $7 million to pick it up, but it would also put him under contract for 5 or so more years. So that $7 million is a good investment if he's going to play three more seasons here, and probably a tough pill to swallow if it's just going to be 2010.

In other words, we kind of have to make a decision on his role in future seasons, not just coming off a strong 2009. He's instantly one of the prizes of free agency if we release him though.

I think we have to pay him like $2 or $3 million regardless though, even if we don't pick up the $7 mil. Same with Randle El, which has already been decided.

But then again, I think this is part of what got us into trouble, keeping guys who were not producing to what we were paying them out of loyalty. It's a bit sad though. Hopefully they'll land in other teams.

We'll find out shortly though.

Yeah, I mean these are guys who I really enjoyed cheering for...but I can't disagree with any of these releases... its ashame Betts got hurt though... I think that injury is the reason he's gone.

All of the moves made financial sense except Rock Cartwright. But it wouldn't surprise me if he was copping some sort of attitude that Mike Shanahan didn't take kindly to, and that's what led to his release.

Randy Thomas and Antwaan Randle El and Cornelius Griffin all needed to be cut purely based on how expensive they are. Clinton Portis needs to go, too, but it seems the coaching staff has taken a liking to him, which I don't quite understand.

I love it. Classy guys don't win football games, especially not classy guys in their 30s who are slowed by injury/age. Good players and a good coaching staff win football games. Every one of these guys was paid well, they'll be fine. I wish these guys well, but 12th said it best about a changing of the guard and freshness.

Again, thank God for the uncapped season.

Ahhh, now mentioning a lot it was just him and Betts practicing because CP didn't want to, thinks that he never got much of a fair shot, written off as the 7th round pick, thinks that he was more valuable.

Decent relationship with CP, but didn't get rewarded for his efforts in practice. Redskins like to "sell jerseys, have names" and he doesn't sell jerseys/make more money. CP is great, thinks he still has something left in the tank, whatever you put into something you'll get out of it.

In the event Randle EL is released it would nice if we could draft a player like Dexter McCluster of Ole Miss. as a punt returner. That may be a luxury at this point with so many other holes to fill. He's a small guy with a lot to offer but in the NFL would be considered one dimentional. With only five draft picks we're somewhat limited in what we can do.

Gives him chills that he won't be a Redskin anymore, wants to go deep into playoffs/Super Bowl, etc. Bittersweet but time to move on/forward.
