Re: Brian Westbrook Meeting with Redskins on Wednesday
Even if the Redskins have no intention of signing Westbrook, this is a good way for him to keep his name out there. Thinking there is still an interest in him can only work to his benifit.

Read the next to last paragraph, kinda easy to put 2+2 together |
Re: Brian Westbrook Meeting with Redskins on Wednesday
I get it, but I don't feel that teams are in the market of doing players favors for no apparent reason either.

Yeah, they're going to be at the same place anyway, why not talk? It keeps Westbrook AND the Redskins in the news. Not a bad thing for either party. |

Not sure who is agent is, but it's not out of the ordinary for agents and GMs to scratch each other's backs. |

Sounds like Denver is serious on RB Brian Westbrook, who suddenly has options with the Broncos, Redskins, Rams and who knows who else. |

Westbrook going to visit Denver according to Adam Schefter (per Twitter).

that's what I told a customer today that comes in and talks sports.. he was already due to be in the area to do the speaking thing with Bruce Allen, putting word out there that we're considering him for a spot keeps his name fluffed up |
Re: Brian Westbrook Meeting with Redskins on Wednesday
While we're collecting the best 2006 RB class, perhaps we could pick up the best 2006 QB's as well. Trade for Roethsliberger and Marc Bulger anyone??
Brian Westbrook Wants To Join Redskins Former Philadelphia Eagles start Brian Westbrook says he wants to be part of the Washington Redskins organization. There is one catch: the Redskins have not offered Westbrook a contract. Westbrook told NFL.com that he had a great interview in Washington two weeks ago and he really wants to play in D.C. "It went really well," Westbrook said of his talk with the Redskins. "I enjoyed them and the coaching staff. I'd love to be a part of that organization. They have a quality organization -- I just have to find out if I can fit into their system." Westbrook, 30, played alongside Donovan McNabb in Philadelphia for eight seasons. The big question is why would the Redskins sign Westbrook if they already have three veteran running back on their roster: Clinton Portis, Larry Johnson and Willie Parker? McNabb is rumored to be a force behind the Westbrook tryout. The relationship between Portis and new coach Mike Shanahan could be an issue. Shanahan traded Portis to Washington when he was the Denver Broncos head coach in 2004. Portis, 28, missed much of the 2009 season with a concussion, as did Westbrook. Johnson and Paker signed free-agent deals with Washington in the offseason. Westbrook's brother, Byron, plays for the Redskins and the Westbrook brothers grew up in the Washington suburbs.
|
Re: Brian Westbrook Meeting with Redskins on Wednesday
Think we offered him something, as well as the Rams and Broncos, he's supposed to decide soon.

Re: Brian Westbrook Meeting with Redskins on Wednesday
He'll be a Redskin soon. McNabb will turn the deal.......
|
Re: Brian Westbrook Meeting with Redskins on Wednesday
^ I don't think McNabb has to do much or will have much to do with it. The selling points are ....
1- He grew up in the area. 2- His brother is on the team. 3- The Redskins have the best RB core. All he has to do is be the 3rd down back. 4- The Redskins offer the best situation to get a ring. |

Re: Brian Westbrook Meeting with Redskins on Wednesday
Ok so you actually think the Rams are a better team then the Skins? and to be honest I don't think the Bronco's are going to do anything special. I think their HC sucks. I'm almost betting he has a worse yr then last and gets fired after this coming yr. So in essance I feel the Redskins offer the best place for him to be.
Better HC/coaching staff I mentioned better RB core cause Westbrook won't have to be the every down RB getting beat up again and not lasting the whole season. I'm in no way saying the Skins will get their ring this yr just saying with this coaching staff Westbrook has his best chance of getting one. Tell me you think the Rams or Bronco's offer a better situation? |
Re: Brian Westbrook Meeting with Redskins on Wednesday
I think one could argue the Broncos could offer him more in terms of playing time, and they also play in a weaker division so they could have a better shot at the playoffs.
|
Re: Brian Westbrook Meeting with Redskins on Wednesday
^Touche. But he knows he has not lasted a whole yr recently due to over use. He definitly would not need to be the work horse so he could stay healthy for a whole yr. I still don't like the HC in Denver. I'm predicting his team to get progressivly worse. Part of me says its between his and the players ego's.
After last yr I was not impressed with him and got the feeling his ego rubbed some players the wrong way. I don't think it was just Marshall either. I think others knew to keep their mouths shut. I could be very wrong. On a side note though, Mike Shanahan has had the best offenses over a long period of time. Even his last yr when the team went 8-8 they still had the best running scheme and put up a lot of yrds. I would imagine any RB would love to be in his system knowing it's full proof and is proven to be RB friendly. Westbrook would be an idiot to not want to play under it, play on the same team as his brother, and have his best chance to possibly get a SB ring before he retires. |
Re: Brian Westbrook Meeting with Redskins on Wednesday
I think he wants to be here so that he can face the eagles twice a year
|
Re: Brian Westbrook Meeting with Redskins on Wednesday
And don't forget the Westbrook and his brother are from the area. He played high school ball at DeMatha, so it would be good place to possibly finish off his career if he can stay healthy.
I think he's definitely leaning towards Washington. |

Re: Brian Westbrook Meeting with Redskins on Wednesday
I love Westbrook as a player! Do you think too much would be made of the Eagles factor?
I don't think it's the number one reason for him considering to come here, but yeah, I would say it's definitely a factor. Hooking up with Donovan again just a few hours from Philly, playing on the same team as his little brother, and quite frankly, being a part of an organization with a rich tradition and great fan base have to give the Skins the edge. Sure he'd get more playing time elsewhere, but so what. At this point in his career, he's not going to be the featured back anyway. But you have to think that if the Skins do sign Westbrooks, and I think they will, this particular backfield will be together for only one year. I think Shanny is possibly bringing in some new faces and vets here and there with an eye on next year's draft. |

The media would love it, and, to me, it would be a litmus test of sorts of the Eagles GM/FO practice of letting players go early. I would love to see McNabb/Westbrook just have an outstanding game against the Eagles. The first MNF matchup would be outlandish |
Re: Brian Westbrook Meeting with Redskins on Wednesday
What type of injuries, besides the concussions, has Westbrooks had during his career? Any torn achilles or knee surguries?
Anybody? |

Knee I thought.
05- Mid foot injury. 06-Swollen Knee. M.Kelly syndrome. 08- Rib & Ankle injury. 09- Concussion. Well actually 2. |

Anybody?
Ribs, I think I remember. Perhaps an ankle? Nothing torn in the knees for Westbrook, at least not as a professional. Before 2008, he had one of the cleanest bills of health in the league. He hasn't done anything spectacular out there since his (age 28) career year in 2007, but I think his "tank" is probably close to what Portis has left, in that neither had to play much last year because of concussions, so they should be fresher in the lower body/elusiveness category. |

Re: Brian Westbrook Meeting with Redskins on Wednesday
I think we'll keep three vet RBs but not four. If we get Westbrook to be the primary third down back, Parker isn't going to make it out of camp, I assume.
It's an upgrade, so I'm not complaining. |
Re: Brian Westbrook Meeting with Redskins on Wednesday
BW would definitely be an upgrade to Parker so I don't have a problem with that, if that's the plan.

My hope, my dream, my fantasy: Redskins win the SB on a clutch 4th quarter pass from McNabb to Westbrook. McNabb gets SB MVP.
Philly implodes in a cesspool of bitter frustation. |
