We don't give up any pick. We get a pick if Morris makes the Rams (I believe all he has to do is make the team) |

Correct. Rams get nothing from us since we cut Davis...but if Morris makes the team, we get a compensatory 7th-round pick. I'm a little surprised at Dearth making it over Sundburg with still no Red Snapper contact. Also, Edwin Williams because of his versatility to play all 3 positions on the line. |
Re: First Cuts: Holmes, E. Williams, Dearth, Davis
Wow, I was sure that Williams had been our best back up O-Linemen. I was sure he would make the team. Infact, I thought that Dockery had better look out. Oh well, thats why I am not a football scout.

Re: First Cuts: Holmes, E. Williams, Dearth, Davis
Rinehart still needs to beat out Erik Cook for a roster spot, but I like his chances.
Probably only going to keep 8 OLmen at this point, figured this whole time that Williams would be the ninth. Lichtensteiger, Rinehart, and Heyer are the rostered backups. But Cook and Capers will certainly be on call in case of injury. I doubt Jamaal Brown is going to get through the entire season before going on IR, and if/when he does, Capers gets on the active roster. |

Williams is a bit interesting, however the current staff felt that his best value was at center but Rabach and Lichtensteiger were ahead of him and that he didn't play very well at guard against Buffalo. Of course trying out Selvish Capers at guard reduced the amount of backup guards that could stay. |
Re: First Cuts: Holmes, E. Williams, Dearth, Davis
I'm guessing Williams may go on the PS, as might Hall. Not sure if the trade is still valid if we cut Hall and then put him on PS. I'm guessing no

If Capers can make the transition then he might end up being a steal. If anything he would hypothetically see more time at RG then LG though if you have him at LG with Trent Williams, well good luck to anyone trying to defend a toss left. Then again Jamaal Brown isn't exactly flat footed. |
Re: First Cuts: Holmes, E. Williams, Dearth, Davis
Supposedly, Byron Westbrook has been released though I'm not entirely sure. Which means that Tryon and Robinson look like they may both make the team, or not.
|
Re: First Cuts: Holmes, E. Williams, Dearth, Davis
Never quite understood what the hype about Edwin Williams was all about. He always seemed like just another guy to me.

I personally like him a lot, known him since he was in high school. Good guy who I wanted to see do well in the pros, and especially for his hometown team |
Re: First Cuts: Holmes, E. Williams, Dearth, Davis
Schefty's reporting on the Westbrook release now, though the Skins still aren't confirming anything.

I understand the hometown connection and the fact he played at Maryland. Still, he just didn't seem like anything special on the field. |

So does that mean a signing is likely coming? Seems like these guys haven't really cut anyone until they absolutely had too. |
Re: First Cuts: Holmes, E. Williams, Dearth, Davis
Westbrook report may have been premature. Hearing mixed things
|
Re: First Cuts: Holmes, E. Williams, Dearth, Davis
Sad to hear about Williams, i thought he did decent the couple times he played last year.
|
Re: First Cuts: Holmes, E. Williams, Dearth, Davis
wonder what really happened with this westbrook situation. maybe some paperwork didnt get filed properly to place Kelly on IR and the skins thought they had to drop another player ASAP, but then got the kelly thing worked out?
either way, this could be an indication that westbrook is the 75th player on the team right now. |
Re: First Cuts: Holmes, E. Williams, Dearth, Davis
Did R.Williams get cut? I saw on Redskins.com Depth Chart that he's off the list?

Matty has already notified me that I will be suspended for 10 days. I've appealed but I'm guessing he'll ask me to take some time off around mid-September |

Still on the roster, just not on the visible depth chart it seems |

Call it what you want. Fact is I won't be getting my Warpath Mod payment every day that I'm away. I'll have the union take it up with Matty privately |
Re: First Cuts: Holmes, E. Williams, Dearth, Davis
I understand the hometown connection and the fact he played at Maryland. Still, he just didn't seem like anything special on the field.
Think he might have stuck if they had kept him at Center. At Guard, the talent pool with regard to guys who can run/pass/screen block is a lot deeper, because there isn't such a premium on first step quickness and ability to set and adjust protections.
Once he got moved to left guard, he didn't seem to offer more than basic ability at that position to not be overpowered by standard level defensive lineman. And so I'm not shocked that he was displaced by Kory Lichtensteiger. |

I am a doctor and I must say you have been exhibiting signs of overworked mod syndrome. That is whats giving you problems. |

Re: First Cuts: Holmes, E. Williams, Dearth, Davis
Smack will be placed on the Physically Unable To Mod list... better known as the PUM list.
The new Mod CBA allows mods to be placed on this list unlike the NFL, so even though he showed up to Camp and praticed a few times with the team before straining his right index finger, we can keep him on the 6,252 man roster. |

Word has it that he works at NFLN. The youth movement continues. |
Re: First Cuts: Holmes, E. Williams, Dearth, Davis
SmootSmack has been cut for salary cap reasons despite the lack of a salary cap.

Williams was picked up by the Bears

I still plan on appealing my imminent suspension but expect that I will have to accept it and sit out the Texans, Rams, and Eagles games |

Who doesn't remember the Week 5 fiasco. And now he's going to miss 3 of the first 4 games. Hypothetically, I would say make him sit the season. But I won't say any of that because I'm afraid of the parrot Smoot rocks! |
Re: First Cuts: Holmes, E. Williams, Dearth, Davis
Well thank you for the correction about the Mod CBA.
I hope you have your suspension either recended or at least have the supsension decreased from a 3 game suspension down to a 1, just be honest in your interview with the MOD Commisioner. He may actually tack on an extra game to your suspension if you lie to him. |
