Re: Redskins Receivers Rotation
By the end of the season, I imagine it'll be:
Armstrong Hankerson Moss Gaffney Kelly Banks PS Paul Robinson |
Re: Redskins Receivers Rotation
Santana Moss
Jabar Gaffney Anthony Armstrong (Honestly, I'm thinking Armstrong and Gaffney will be 50/50 in terms of who will be the "second guy") Leonard Hankerson Terrence Austin Niles Paul PS: Aldrick Robinson I think they're going to try and find some way to keep Banks anyway they can. I want Banks to stay, I just don't know if he will stay, unless they somehow keep 7 receivers. |
Re: Redskins Receivers Rotation
Moss
Hank AA Austin Banks one of the rookies Is there really any need for Stallworth and Gaffney to be on this team? Why draft wr's if you're going to bring in journeymen? And I don't care if they don't know the playbook. Coach em' up and scale everything down. Also they have to find a way for Banks to make the team. He's the most explosive player on the team. I don't care if he's a knucklehead. He's young and he'll hopefully grow out of it! |

Re: Redskins Receivers Rotation
If Kelley gets hurt he is gone, and I dont see banks going any place ..what happens if we let him go and he ended up in philly or dallas , then we definitely look stupid

Gaffney fills a need (good hands good route running pretty good size) Stallworth has not had an impact season since 2005. Neither of these guys are going to come in and catch 80 (or probably even 60 really) balls but I worry that Stallworth is going to take reps away from young guys and give us nothing in return. |

Kelly's future depends on his health. If he was truly gone, he'd been cut a long time ago. Otherwise, he'll be able to compete. Of course the moment he gets injured, he'll be gone. |

I think they want to see what he can do if healthy but no question the numbers are against him. |

By the end of the year:
Armstrong Moss Hankerson Gaffney kelly (health issue) Niles Paul |

I'm not so sure about that.. If that was so clear cut then Shanahan would have cut him last summer or in the offseason. If healthy, (HUGE IF) Kelly can be a difference maker in our WR corp. He's put in a lot of work with Beck and on the offense in hopes of being an impact player. Wait until at least the middle of camp before counting him completely out. Shanny (both of them) likes him a lot. |
Re: Redskins Receivers Rotation
Kelly needs to be a standout in camp, and of course stay healthy. It's his last shot no doubt.

Neither of these guys are going to come in and catch 80 (or probably even 60 really) balls but I worry that Stallworth is going to take reps away from young guys and give us nothing in return.
1.) Gaffney is coming off a season where he caught 60 plus passes. It's why I think it's funny everyone has him as, like, the fifth receiver in the rotation. He's not a game breaker, but he's productive, and has been getting more so over the past couple seasons. He had 875 yards last year. He's not exactly a slouch. 2.) Stallworth is a camp body, and as I said last season with Terrence Austin and Joey Galloway...it has to be argued that, if you can't beat the old guys out in camp, chances are you're not ready for primetime yet. If one of our rookies or second year guys can't impress coaches more than a dude that only caught two passes last season, does that say more about Stallworth, who's just trying to get a job and is playing for nothing, or the young guy who the team actually has something invested in that they can't beat out. |
Re: Redskins Receivers Rotation
Moss
Armstrong Hankerson Gaffney Austin Paul Kelly gets cut after pulling a hammy in camp. Is Banks eligible for PS since he played almost every game last season? And Robinson goes on PS too. |
Re: Redskins Receivers Rotation
I think a healthy Kelly is a better player than Gaffney, but again, that "healthy Kelly conundrum is probably why he's here in the first place.

One wonders how you came to that conclusion since Kelly's never played and Jaffney has a track record of production. |
Re: Redskins Receivers Rotation
Any word on Kelly in camp?

He didn't die on the field. |
Re: Redskins Receivers Rotation
Once the smoke is cleared and the year progresses I'm hoping it looks like
1. Santana 2. Armstrong 3. Hankerson 4. Gaffney 5. Stallworth 6/KR/PR. Banks The 1 & 2 can be swapped for matchups with Armstrong & Moss. The 2 & 3 might be cycled with Armstrong & Hankerson once Hanky gets his feet wet. Hankersons not a WR built on speed he's got ridiculous hands.. were gonna wanna get him developed for a nice 3rd down target so its a must he can perform on at least a 2 level. Stalloworth will be nice to flash in looking for a big play if Shanny doesn't cut him lol Shannys gonna spell Gaffney when he can I'm thinking. And Banks is a good returner. |
Re: Redskins Receivers Rotation
I think I underated Gaffney myself. Shanny might start him if he looks good in camp.
And if he looks good in camp so be it. |

Re: Redskins Receivers Rotation
Here goes:
1. Moss 2. Hankerson 3. AA 4. Gaffney 5. Kelly 6. Banks PS: Austin, Paul |
Re: Redskins Receivers Rotation
1. Moss.
2. Armstrong 3. Gaffney or Kelly. Both are possession receivers and neither is a special teamer. 4. Hankerson. Will challenge Armstrong for his job by week 10. 5. Austin or Paul. Depends on which one is better on special teams. 6. Banks. Unless Robinson or Paul returns kicks better then I don't see Banks being cut. PS Paul--unless he beats out Austin or Banks. Robinson--unless he beats out Banks. |
Even with how ridiculous our passing options are, we are still just one true big play number one receiver away from having a great WR core. Santana is a mediocre 1st option now but he would be the greatest 2nd option in the history of football. Make Armstrong just go deep and Mr Hanky as a wildcard type as a rookie and that squad is tight with two solid TE's. I'm not a huge Edwards fan but that might be the move that puts it all in order.

That's how I roll. Seriously though, I think it is very hard to say exactly what will happen. Kelly could be a starter or could break himself in two again. Gaffney could play lights out or just play out, of a starting job. I like what I've heard about Hank Hill in camp so I'll go.... 1. Moss 2. Hank Hill 3. AA 4. Gaffney (tie) 4. Kelly (tie 6. Banks PS: Austin and/or Robinson and/or Paul :) |
Re: Redskins Receivers Rotation
I'm hearing good things about Paul. If Kelly slips up I think Paul will be right there to grab a roster spot from him.
|
Re: Redskins Receivers Rotation
Gonna try this again.
1.) Moss 2.) Gaffney 3.) AA 4.) Hankerson (tie) 5.) Kelly (tie) 6.) Niles Paul |
Re: Redskins Receivers Rotation
From the sound of things Hankerson is going to work his way on to the field sooner rather than later. Probably won't be long til he's starting.

Re: Redskins Receivers Rotation
i have'nt seen nor heard anything about kelly this year.is he uninjured and playing well in camp?i think hankerson starts by week 5 regardless.
|
Re: Redskins Receivers Rotation
I think he will be the number one receiver by week 8, with Moss in the slot and Kelly in the #2.
By week 8.... 1. Hankerson 2. Kelly 3. Moss 4. Armstrong 5. Austin 6. Gaffney |
Re: Redskins Receivers Rotation
Kelly? Ha!
That would be a shocker...a pleasant surprise. I hope so, but i think he will get hurt |
Re: Redskins Receivers Rotation
Man, that'd be a sweet formation of Hankerson and Kelly on the outside and Moss in the slot.
|
Re: Redskins Receivers Rotation
Man, that'd be a sweet formation of Hankerson and Kelly on the outside and Moss in the slot.
Yes it would, although I would hope that in the land where everything goes right for us, Armstrong would get the first shot at the third receiver over Moss. It might even make sense then to do some 4 WR stuff with a tight end in the backfield instead of a RB.
