Typical Redskins vs Giants always a formidable opponent regardless of where we play them, or what the conditions are. Time to transform words into deeds.

Good momentum builder...Skins 24 - G-men 17
Yes, I would tell you that. Last year LL clearly brought a more focused and mature attitude to the table and it showed in his play. He was not perfect but was finally emerging as the impact player that we drafted him to be.

Doughty is a solid backup. LL is a Pro Bowl candidate. Big difference.
"A more focused and mature attitude" Huh?

D.C. Sports Bog - The Eagles react to LaRon Landry, strongly

[YT]4kZmocfldfA&feature[/YT]

Here's Jeremy Maclin, on the suggestion that Landry was talking junk about Jackson's concussion, via CSNPhilly:

"There's just certain things that you talk about and certain things that you don't," Maclin said. "In incidents when somebody is really hurt - just life-changing incidents like that - you just don't joke about those types of things. Thirty was running off at the mouth a little too much. He's supposed to be one of the elite players in the league, but there are certain boundaries that you don't cross, and he definitely crossed them."
And here's Quintin Mikell, also via CSNPhilly:
"DeSean is going in minding his own business, and the guy comes over there and starts chirping. All right, we're not going to let that happen. We're here to play, we're not scared. You can talk all you want, we're ready to play ball, and it escalated from there. We got into the locker room, and we were already fired up, but that got us fired up even more. They just added fuel to the fire. We were ready to go, and that made it even worse. Thank No. 30 for that one. Especially first play of the game - we went right after him. Maybe he should have been more ready to play ball than talking."
Apparently every member of the Eagles was asked about Landry. Here's Jason Avant, via USA Today:

"Well he is a dirty player, and we know that and it's one of (those) things where we want to play our hardest and let our play speak for itself. All that extracurricular stuff is high school, and I guess trying to create rivalries."
Meanwhile, CSNPhilly's Derrick Gunn apparently said that Redskins were saying things like "lights out" to Jackson before the game.

"He got his" Eagles center Mike McGlynn said, via PhillyBurbs.com. "We got after him pretty good. The things that he did during the game, spitting on me twice....I don't have no respect for that. There's no place for that in our game."

"It was just real disrespectful, and we felt we need to go out there and put a real good smashing on him," Jackson said, again, via this fairly amazing CSNPhilly story.

LL showed he can be a loose cannon and a distraction - This was disgraceful.

I don't root for our players when they act like this. I'm not so much of a homer as to turn a blind eye to this sort of thing.

It doesn't take a genius to figure out that first play of the game to DJ against Hall and Landry was meant to shut up the biggest talkers on the team. It served its purpose and set the tone for the rest of the night.

That said, I imagine everybody talks trash at the NFL level. (some more than others though) I'm not going to hate on LL or Hall (or anybody) for talking trash. I will however hate on somebody when they don't back it up. ;)

For the first time I truly mean my yearly prediction of f-ing pain.

I actually feel that we win, and win big.

We might start with a quick score by the Giants, but I think we win something 35-10 if we can get some decent red zone production.

Watch the vid I posted, then defend his play. He was flat out awful at times.

I can deny it because it's true....Landry is kind of overrated.
Overrated?

Coming out of College everyone knew Landry was not a Cover 2 Safety for the NFL. He was more of a Brian Dawkins free lancer type safety that would benefit in a 3/4 aggressive scheme. The Redskins ignored all this, and drafted him anyhow like they always did in the past.

The only good thing now is he is in a system he belongs in. As long as he can play that free lancer role and not get caught up in playing a 4/3 over 2 scheme like G. Williams ran, then he will be a great safety.

I just want to see him heal up and get back on the field.

Doughty is not crap though.. I don't see him stumble like everyone says he does, and we also have Gomes who looked great in preseason.

So because he talks trash, and is disfunctional mentally, that discredits his value? I don't think the two have anything in common.

Randy Moss came out and said he plays when he wants, but he's one of the greatest WR in NFL history.

N. Suh is known for playing dirty, but is feared by just about every QB in the NFL.

There are players all over the NFL known for talking trash, and still being great players.

89 tackles, 1 sack, 1 INT, and 2 FF in 8 games?

I don't see how that's overrated.

Without a true free safety covering his back. Landry should never have been used as a cover safety but playing the line with Atogwe patrolling the backfeild? Nasty.

In Washington, where the Pentagon was attacked 10 years ago, former Secretary of State Colin Powell will serve as the Redskins' honorary captain for Sunday's game against the New York Giants.

Trash-talk is one thing....bone-headed plays that cost us games are another.

Back to the giants, I really feel that the Skins are going to run the ball....a lot! G-men are soft in the middle now and they don't want Grossman going back on every play to pass....cause that would be just Gross....man.

I am hoping we take advantage of all their weaknesses, one of those is ST coverage units. I am hoping Banks takes their first punt all the way (no flags Riley!) and they start popping those suckers out of bounds for a 30yd net punt avg. The back of our D is very much a ball hawk unit now, so I agree 2+ Ints for Eli is likely, and won't start their year off very well. I also expect we will be trying to flank or short pass over their DLine, which is the main strength at this point.

If we don't win, it will be because of our mental mistakes more than the NYG outplaying us. And I don't expect many mental mistakes from the starters at this point.

Re: Redskins vs. Giants pre-game thread

As far as I can tell, the Giants' strength will, again, be their running game. I think we have made huge improvements in stopping that, particularly the inside running game. I just don't think the front 7 gets pushed around like it did last year. With the running game stuffed, the Giants will turn to the passing game. Eli will be Eli - some sweet passes mixed in with some boneheaded interceptions. Manningham and Hicks v. Our Secondary (presumably w/out Landry) is not even close. I am envisioning the Giants abandoning the run fairly early if they get behind and making Wheaties out of D. Hall (i.e. having him for breakfest). They may not make quick scores with Otogwe back there BUT they will eat up yards in chunks through the air. The only way to stop this is for our front seven to get pressure, and lots of it, to disrupt Eli's rhythm and bring out the Erratic Eli.

To me, the question mark is our offense:
- The first teamers looked great in preseason. Will it translate to the whole game?
- Our O-Line will be fine if we get their D-Line moving but I just don't think it can line up and blow anyone back off the line. 3rd & Short is not a good down for us.
- Rex, Rex, Rex ... Dear God help us! (BTW - if it had been Beck, this line would have read "Beck, Beck, Beck ... Dear God help us!")
- Is Hightower the real deal? or do he and Rexy combine for 4 fumbles and 2 INTS?

If our offense is, in fact, the real deal, this could end up being somewhat of a shoot out.

I think our offense shows up for real against the Giants injury ridden D and that our front 7 get into Eli's head against his inexperienced line. The Giants make some big plays and score a couple TD's (courtesy of D. Hall's excellent coverage skills), but the Skins run Hightower at will and keep them off balance with some solid mid-range passing for Rex. 31 - 14 Skins.

Bold prediction: Rex throws NO interceptions and doesn't fumble. Has a game like he had in the first preseason game. Sharp Sharp Sharp.

Who doesn't make bad plays in the NFL? You're playing against high caliber athletes for 120+ plays. Bad things are bound to happen.

This Skins offense is going to be the highest-scoring offense we've had since '91. It won't be anywhere near THAT caliber, but we'll score more points than in recent memory.

Week 1:

Redskins 34
Giants 17

The Giants have no depth at secondary due to key injuries at CB and their D-line and LB crew are missing key parts. We'll run AND throw all over them.
