Open the book of John HTTR
And two weeks from now Beck may be crucified. Then, after Rex flames out for a second time, Beck will be resurrected on the third week. |

Re: John Beck Era Begins
The only true qb question for this team is which one do we draft and in what round do we draft him in 2012? Hopefully Beck will be good enough to finish this season and possibly part of next season but its time for the future to start in 2012.
Andrew Luck? Landry Jones? Matt Barkley? RG III? Kellen Moore? Nick Foles? Ryan Tannehill? This is a deep qb class and we should be able to get a quality starter out of this draft in the middle of the 1st round or even in the 2nd. To be honest, I actually like all of the qbs on this list and would not be against having any one of them. |
Re: John Beck Era Begins
if he cuts down on the turnovers alone it increases our chances exponentially. rex was good at moving us down the field but we often stalled in the red zone, and he turned the ball over too much. i am hopeful for beck

Re: John Beck Era Begins
I could see Kellen Moore in burgundy and gold

Bottom line. As Rex himself said, he had a chance to prove there was no doubt he should be the starter and didn't. He has been in the league longer than Beck. More experience, more knowledge of Kyle's system. This was his chance and he didn't take advantage. Now let's see if Beck does

Don't call it a comebeck.
And who could we have gotten reasonably. There is a very good QB class coming out next year. Ryan Tannehill?
We don't know that yet as it relates to us. We only know that in terms of whichever team ends up with the first overall pick. After that you have to count on Jones and Barkley coming out early as well RG3 testing out well as an NFL QB and even then you have to hope he declares as well. Right now all we know for sure is Luck and Folles. Beyond that is a huge mystery.
I could see Kellen Moore in burgundy and gold
I'm hearing more and more that he's going to be a mid round pick. The only way he's going to be a first or second round pick is if he undergoes the Tebow effect where a team just falls in love with him and takes him a round or two earlier then he's graded. |
Re: John Beck Era Begins
Rex has had his chance and he played poor the last 3 weeks, if we played someone other than STL we would be 2-3 right now, he practically begged them to beat us

More likely he will try to toss it to Kyle and it will be intercepted. |

To bad Los isn't here. That would have made for a great setup to continue this joke. |
Re: John Beck Era Begins
Yay.
I'm just as glad as the rest of you so see what we got in Beck. All summer long it was kinda implied Beck would start and when Rex got the nod I was just as let down and confused as the rest of you. But ... there was a reason Rex got the nod and having said that I really hope Beck does not let us down. In no way am I implying Rex is the best thing since sliced bread but what makes him a turd? No one really explained that well yesterday other then to say...."your missing the point." I wasn't. He can't run to save his life. He doesn't have a very strong arm to throw very deep. I get it. But if we are basing this off his INT's over 4 starts this year? his INT's match up with the best. Maybe Beck comes in and can score more points some how, good. But I'm more worried it's not the QB play so much as the WR not making plays. |
Re: John Beck Era Begins
This will let us know if the QB we draft next year will start right away or sit for a year or two. Go Beck.

Whoever we bring in as QB for the 1st round needs to start. Neither Beck nor Grossman are franchise QB's. I think the coaching staff and fans know there is a drastic need for a better QB on this team. |

Need to give it at least a couple games. Rex was a sure fire pro bowler after the Giants game. Consistency is key.
Whoever we bring in as QB for the 1st round needs to start. Re: John Beck Era Begins
Question.....I don't follow college football all that much. So my question is what qb coming out of college in next years draft fits shannys style best? Jones, Barkley, Luck??.... Or someone else I don't know about.

Re: John Beck Era Begins
Depends on which system? KS or MS lol luck fits best but no way we get him so I'd go with someone like Barkley or Moore

Luck fits everyone's system. Jones is comparable physically to Luck. Barkley kind of scares me when I hear comparisons to Mark Sanchez. |

What will make things really interesting in Skins QB-land is if Beck ends up posting better numbers than Rex but the team goes 1-4. |

As always the individual cog should be evaluated. I understand why a QB should get more leash before a benching due to the complexity of the position and the time and reps needed to implement a game plan but still. If Beck is playing well while the defense suddenly stops pulling it's weight then you don't punish Beck. That would have been like the Saints benching Brees during his record setting season where they went 7-9 due to poor defense (The year before they won the Super Bowl no less). |
Re: John Beck Era Begins
You know, the whole experience vs. "upside" debate really is similar to Obama vs. McCain, except everyone wanted the experienced guy. Just sayin'.

Of course you dont bench a QB for bad defensive play but if Beck has better numbers but the O still struggles to score points it will be interesting to see what happens. I think now that the change has been made, unless Beck is really terrible, the Skins have to stick with him for the rest of the year. |

Why don't we keep this thread focused on our current starting QB. We have multiple other threads to discuss potential QBs currently playing in college

That reminds me, has anyone heard of this Kellen Moore kid? If I recall correctly he's a QB at Boise State. |
Re: John Beck Era Begins
One (of many) things that worry me about Beck was the scramble where he fumbled the ball. I mean Holy Cow, nobody touched him, he just knocked it loose himself. I guess I believe we will see 1-3 turnovers a game with Beck at QB, just hope his mobility makes up for those ones.
I'm willing to give Beck the benefit of the doubt that was a jitters thing. He basically knocked the ball out of his right hand w/ his left hand, which looked really silly in slow mo btw lol. Let's see if/when he settles down at the helm. ...for eff sakes my friends aren't we due for a diamond in the ruff at QB?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
Re: John Beck Era Begins
Beck's mobility is also such a huge addition from what we've had. Let's hope he takes off running early and often (and slides safely too!) so defenses will have to keep in honest about covering the field. If the downfield targets ain't open...run for a few yards and I bet the targets start to open up!
...I think all defenses get pissed when a QB picks up yardage w/ his feet. It's the perfect "gotcha" play. |

luck, robert griffin III, kellen moore (quick release and so accurate) |

I wanted Andy Dalton and people said he was not starting material. Said he would probably go in the 4th to 5th round and not be any good. I'm sure there are other QB's out their that can be brought in to start but KS will have his hands full with major coaching up over the summer. On top of that the team would need to stick to what the QB knows and what he can do. |

and your concerns are mine. If the team started out with Beck and he was horrible, then bringing in Grossman, who knew the offense better would make sense. Starting with Grossman and now switching to Beck after only 5 games says you don't have faith in Grossman, which I know the lot of you don't, BUT..... what happens if Beck plays horribly? Where do we go then? Back to Grossman? lol. Arrington brought this very topic up today on their show. I truly hope Beck comes in and plays well, moves the ball well, and scores more points per game, because if he comes in and everyone realizes it's not the QB play and that it's more his cast around him then this is going to be a huge let down and a wash for the season. Because everyone has already written Grossman off as ever taking this team into the playoffs and if Beck plays just as bad or worse...... |

...for eff sakes my friends aren't we due for a diamond in the ruff at QB?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Totally agree with the jitters, but honestly the Eagles didn't game plan around him either. They game planned around Grossman a less mobile QB, and we threw in a mobile QB. I think he will play well against the Panthers because their defense sucks, but the games following will be interesting since our OL is a patch work. Plus the better defenses who will game plan around him. |
