Colts get RGIII plus picks and the Rams get players plus picks. Are we the one giving up the picks to the Colts and Rams? I'm assuming we would give up picks to the Colts with the Colts working out a deal on picks with the Rams and we may send a player to the Rams.

I'd give up Orakpo in a heart beat for Bradford or Luck. I personaly would like Orakpo and a 2nd round pick for Bradford and with Luck the following.....Orakpo, swap of picks this year and next years 1st and a 3rd. (probably wouldn't get the deal done with either).

Smoot & SC,

Thanks for letting us get a peek into the inner workings of franchise this offseason. Whether or not these potential trades are executed, it shows me that the Skins front office is headed in the right direction. We have been without a franchise signal caller since forever. When was theblast time a Skins QB was even selected to the Pro Bowl?

Our franchise is stuck in the mire of averageness until we get a young QB who we can build a dynasty with. MS knows QB's....I am all for having him go hard after the one(s) he and KS feel are elite.

For The Record: the couple of years that I have been browsing this site, Smoot has never done anything to make me doubt his intel. I would consider his intel beyond reproach.

The Tony Banks to Shane Matthews transition doesn't make you all tingly inside?

I'd love either scenario... Things will be much clearer in the coming weeks as Mannings fate is decided.

Question for SS, if Manning is released prior to his bonus date, which precedes the league year beginning, can teams speak to him/evaluate his status prior to free agency?

If I'm not mistaken, Brad Johnson was selected to the Pro Bowl during the '99 season. Before that, Gus Frerotte was selected to the Pro Bowl in '97.

Interesting idea and I think a good one. Kyle Shannahan was on the Andy Sheehan/Thom Loverro show in DC on Friday and he said there was no way the Skins were going to give away the farm to get a QB. He said QB was one of many holes the Skins need to fill. It sounds like he thinks the team really needs a few playmakers. His most telling stat to this point was the number of passes thrown by the QB and run in for a TD was zero.

Gus is only remembered for giving himself a concussion and Brad just seems to get overlooked by everyone. I thought Brad was a very good QB while he was here. Mistakenly, we let him walk away and he went on too win again elsewhere.

Big thanks to SS for posting this.

For the non-believers please know that SS isn't going to just toss something against the wall to see if it sticks. A lot of times he lets the mods know about info he has, but he holds back before letting everyone else know until he can confirm it with other sources.

So if he's posting something here for everyone to see, it's more than just a rumor, it's something that has some potential.

It amazes me how many fans are willing to give away the store for the opportunity to roll the dice on a QB that has never played a down in the pros. Brett Favre was a heck of a band-aid for GB. I wonder if the Saints think Drew Brees is a band-aid. I wonder if the Eagles think Vick is a band-aid.

I never got the impression the Skins let BJ walk, it seemed to me they told him to take a hike when they brought in Jeff George.

The teams that win consistently are the ones with the great QB's. For the most part these QB's go at the top of the draft. The list of Tom Brady late round QB success stories or Drew Brees free agent jackpots are very short ones. Any thing is a gamble but in this case Luck is said to be the best prospect since Elway and Bradford was a #1 overall pick just 2 years ago who Shanny is on record saying he loved and reportedly tried to get in the draft. I will put my eggs in either of those baskets. If you don't have a QB you have NOTHING...

Enough was enough some time ago. I agree that we need to stop shopping for QB's at K-Mart and go to Bloomingdale's instead.

I agree, you gotta have a QB. You also have to have people who can do something with the ball after he throws it to them, the Skins dont have that either. If they can get Luck or Bradford for a reasonable price than I say do it.

I also dont have a problem with trading Orakpo as part of this because you have to trade value to get value.

There is almost no price I wouldn't pay for Luck...for Bradford I would expect to pay a little less since last season had to hurt his value somewhat.

I do agree that we probably need a true #1 WR...but as I keep saying I don't think it's fair to draw any conclusions overall on what we have at WR in light of our awful QB play. WR in general with very few exceptions are a product of the QB and the efficiency of the overall offense. Look at the Colts WR production without Manning. And does anyone really think if Jordy Nelson were a Redskin last year he would have been productive? No...he would have been about as productive as Niles Paul was...

Brady
Rothlesberger (sp)
Flacco

Kyle Shanny said on the radio on Fri that he didnt think Rex played too bad. He said Rex had waaaaay too may turnovers but did move the ball pretty good. He felt the bigger problem was that once Rex completed a pass it was usually not run for many yds and never had a pass run in for a TD. He felt that QB was one of the many areas where the Skins needed to improve.

I think this sums up most Skins personnel decisions since JKC's death. In his one full starting season here, Johnson threw for over 4000 yards and had a qb rating of 90. But he wasn't a "franchise qb" so he was kicked to the curb for a sexy former number 1 overall pick. Johnson went on to win a Super Bowl and the Skins keep cycling through qb's.

Without a doubt we need to upgrade WR. For example, we really need a play maker who can take the top off the defense and get the YAC you mention.

But franchise QB is the greatest of all needs. It is easier to build around a franchise QB than it is to win consistently without one.

If we only can get either a franchise QB or a #1 WR this offseason, we should get a top-notch signal caller.

I agree. But while those who take the risk may not be rewarded, those who are risk averse in finding their guy, the current game shows, will commonly miss ultimate rewards. In other words, sooner or later you have to take the plunge...and then pray.

Everyone assumes that Luck will be the next Aaron Rogers or Manning. What if we spend all those picks and Luck is the next Heath Shuler. Let's not forget that the Rams with Bradford are still picking second in the draft because they don't have quality players around him. We need quality talent and great depth more than we need a franchise QB.
