I don't know buddy...the secondary could/should gel as the season progresses because it's under new tutelage and the starting safeties are new. More potential there than last season and so far we've seen some real tough-nosed football out of Merriwether and Jackson. Williams is the head-scratcher to me. Looking at the cornerbacks I think Wilson and Hall will only give up TDs against elite receivers. But that's what makes those types (Fitz, Johnson etc) elite. You need an elite corner to cover an elite receiver. |
Re: Another D.Hall Thread.
Sad thing is that our secondary just might be responsible for most of our losses this year though.
I think it will depend on the defensive coach's philosophy and our pass rush. If Kerrigan and Orakpo can get to the QB constantly, then that will disguise our poor secondary. However, if Haslett continues to be blitz happy and leave our mediocre secondary one-on-one with receivers...then we're going to have a problem. |
I hear ya both. I do like raheem morris probably having some sort of control over hasletts blitz happy ways. I remember last year hearing about area 51 all over again, so ill wait to see how our safety play goes. I would agree it cant be worse though. Also i think alot of people like to point to the giants and the "in" thing to say this year is " hell if u can get to the qb than eff the secondary. Ive said it myself. Its just not that simple though. Elite wr's will burn a cb the same way elite qb's will burn a good rush with mobility and a quick release. Vick romo and eli happen to be pretty good qb's. Really hoping one or two of the young guys in our secondary surprise the hell out of us. Now that im done playing devils advocate i will play the eternal optimist. We were within inches in several games last year from winning and could have won eleven with sexy rexy and beck! the one thing i cant argue is "as a team" we have upgraded. So lets see if these guys cant win the close ones in the fourth quarter this year.

Re: Another D.Hall Thread.
How many INTs does Hall have to make this season to earn another contract here (your opinion and then if you think it's different for the FO)?
I phrase the question that way because Hall's tackling and burn factor are probably constants, but he could certainly come away with more picks lining up differently. |

Depends on draft and free agency. Also on what these young guns do this season as to how expendable he becomes If he lines up at nickel and is not as exposed than i would say he has to come away with at least five picks to be considered a major factor in his new role. I think this goes for front office as well. I just want to add i dont think Its going to come down to strictly int's - but five would be a good measure and solid result. |
Re: Another D.Hall Thread.
the one thing hall does is create turnovers....guess what the one thing lacking in the skins defense?

He had 3 interceptions last year. If "the one thing he does is create turnovers" and all he has to show for it is 3 interceptions, it doesn't say much for his other skills. |

I would agree with joeredskin. He happens to play a position where you are going to be the benefactor of a tipped ball or poorly thrown one. Troy Polamalu creates turnovers. Hall just happens to be there a couple times a year. |

Or 4 times a game if Jay Cutler is playing. |
Which is more than he had All of last year. The Bears game was d-halls shining moment in the b&g.

Re: Another D.Hall Thread.
Man, you guys don't let up on Hall. The way I see it is, he played as well as anyone else on the sorry ass Redskins of late (few exceptions). Put a good team around him and watch him shine. It was hard enough just watching the Skins play, gotta be tough to give 100% to a team thats sucks year after year after year... Thats why so many of the guys we get rid of light it up on other teams. Or great players we bring to the Skins mysteriously SUCK when they get here. Right Haynesworth... Right 44.

Unfortunately, I think this is pretty close to the bottom line. We don't have a winning culture, and frankly I don't think Shanahan can change that. It's up to RGIII and other team leaders. |

Agree. Though Im pretty excited about what we are doing so far. And I pray RGIII stays healthy. |
Nobody wants to admit that Hall talks and talks and talks! Even after he gets burned! He says dumb things to the media like how Rg3 is the "worst qb in the division. If you read between the lines you understand his point but poor word choice. His constant talking on the field brings his poor play to light. If josh wilson was always barking i would be more frustrated with him when he blows a coverage. Oh and how many redskins go and tear it up somewhere else in the league besides brsndon lloyd? Dont be confused with players that tear it up until they get to washington because they are old and overpaid at that point.

Right 44.
One of the fundamental issues with the Redskins over the last four years has been poor pass coverage. If Hall was actually a good player caught on a bad team, could we not at least expect him to have a positive effect on those players immediately around him.
It would be one thing if the Redskins were like the Jets, Hall took multiple no. 1 receivers away, and the Redskins were mediocre entirely because of an inept offense. But the defense has been lacking in many, many games in the last four years, and of the constants (Hall, Fletcher, Alexander, Golston, Orakpo) on that side of the ball, Hall's performance is the single hardest to defend. There are worse players on the Redskins defense than Hall (Cedric Griffin, Brandon Meriweather, for example), but the bottom line is that this has clearly become an issue of questionable decisions by the current regime. Shanahan could have saved a lot of trouble and big plays against by axing Hall when he came in and just blaming the contract on Cerrato. |

this guy had a pretty good game.

He was solid in the box, pressuring Brees, run support was there. Solid game. He'll make believers out of you slugs yet.

As long as he keeps his trap shut and does his job im just fine with him. He is much less exposed playing nickel thank god. |

Re: Another D.Hall Thread.
this guy had a pretty good game.
He did. Told ya'll he was a good tackler, especially on runs and short passes. The WHOLE secondary really played a great game! 3 TDs and 25 points given up to Brees...that's really a successful day. I think the pressure put on Brees really helped a LOT and I think our front 7 will be masking our secondary deficiencies all season. Gomes had an amazing game. I'm excited to keep him in the starting lineup, even when Meriweather comes back. |
He had a good game because he was not left alone to be exposed. Couple nice tackles but for the most part i think we hid his weakness. My god was griffin an upgrade on the outside

I wouldn't want DHall blitzing Big Ben. Safeties and LBs only. |
Re: Another D.Hall Thread.
You know you don't want him to go too low on a QB tackle or the refs will hit you with a penalty, but he went way too high with that tackle!

Not at all. Look at the photo...Brees went too low. :D |
Could you imagine him hanging off of Big Ben?
Hall did a great jog hanging onto Brees' jersey with his fingers, lol. Long as he can stay draped on Ben, others can come in and finish him off.
Hall still gambled at least once, I'm thinking at least twice, when he shouldn't have. He may be good in slot, but we need better corners than him on the outside. |

Hall already looks for effective lining up inside. Kudos to Haslett, Morris. |

I was a little worried Colston would go Megatron on catches, just snatch them right over Griffin's head. Luckily that didn't seem to happen at all. |
