Re: Moss for Coles (merged)
This trade might not be straight up. Mabye for a change a team came to us and offered extra compensation to make a deal. Mabye we'll get a second and moss out of this.
now that would be a great trade, but highly unlikely... |
Re: Moss for Coles (merged)
I don't so much like this trade. I don't think Moss is a legitimate #1.

Re: Moss for Coles (merged)
The latest WP article that Matt just posted suggests that other teams are likely to increase thier offers before anything is finalized. There seems to be a lot of interest in Coles so the skins better make sure they are taking the best offer available before they jump into this Jets deal. If teams like Baltimore are offering #1 picks, maybe the Jets do need to include a pick with moss to make this deal fair.

Re: Moss for Coles (merged)
Hopefully there will be a lot of competition for him, that only helps us.
We will find otu a lot more over the weekend. |
Re: Moss for Coles (merged)
We cannot eat the entire cap hit of Coles. I'd rather straight out release him; than get Moss, have to pay the rest of Coles garbage, and then resign Moss on top of that. Now, if we can get a way so that the cap hit is down in the 3-4mil range, pull the trigger on this deal ASAP. Otherwise; I'd be happier either just keeping Coles, or just letting him walk. To me, the Cap hit is the main player in this. And if we are getting screwed over there, I say forget it.

Re: Moss for Coles (merged)
I honestly think this is happening because danny wanted moss to begin with (but marty had control and took rod instead), and chad P wants LC back (cause he hasn't played so hot without him)... the problem i have with moss is that he's never started all 16 games... thats beside the fact that he's not nearly as good as LC (nothing like trading your first round pick away for 2nd or 3rd round talent)....
I dont like eating the cap and letting the jets have a top 15-20 WR for cheap for 5 years... 3 years for 7.5$ for LC?? who wouldn't take that... i guess its better to get something out of it, but we traded down talent AND screwed up our cap numbers at the same time. What a mess...
I doubt this deal will happen, but the acquisition of Moss would facilitate the release (or trade) of Morton also. More cap space for me!
i thought we already found morton's replacement (cheap) at the end of last year... i think we could cut hall as well since we found a replacement for him as well. |
Re: Moss for Coles (merged)
I just read somewhere I forgot where but the Ravens said they will sweaten their deal b4 a deal is reached with the Jets. I also read that Samuels just rejected the latest deal the Skins offered him so it is possible that this whole siuation is moot. However if we are able to come to terms with Samuels I believe that the Jets need to sweeten their deal if L C is still unwilling to give back the 5 mil if traded then the Jets need to absorb some if not all of that. The reason I feel this way b/c Coles is a supperior reciever. Lets stop taking the short end of the stick as we did in the Portis-Bailey trade. I feel we should have been the ones to recieve the draft pick there. I do trust in Coach Gibbs that whatever the situation he will give it careful concideration b4 making the final decision and will make lemonade from the lemons he has been dealt.

If I had my choice I would take the draft pick's if they are offered, I like Moss but we can get a #1 and a 2 or 3 I would jump on it. As for Samuel's if he doesn't renegotiate I would cut or trade is underachieving A** that will take care of our cap problem's and open the door for Coles to be traded. |

Re: Moss for Coles (merged)
The fact is that if we get Moss at least we've received something for LC. If we simply release LC we get nothing at all. The best case scenario would be Moss AND a draft pick. It may not be so wise to count on Moss as a full time return man. He may be healthier if he can avoid some vicious hits on returns. I am frankly concerned about losing Smoot which apparently is a foregone conclusion. He is a leader and hits very hard. Lastly, amen to getting rid of Gardner and his stupidity. Every time he made a first down it was if he'd scored on a 99 yard bomb...good riddens.

Re: Moss for Coles (merged)
Canuck-
With the addition of Moss. And Thrash as a backup returnman or the 2nd kick returner. We definitely dont need Morton. Do you recall what his bonus is this year? |
Re: Moss for Coles (merged)
This is the thing I dont understand. Everyone says to cut Samuels or if he renegotiates, it would clear the cap room right up to make this deal. Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldnt that just clear up like 5 Million bucks? Isnt the Coles trade going to cost us 9 Million, not even including a Santana Moss contract extention? It seems pretty dumb in my eyes, unless Coles gives back his money. If his ass wants out of here so bad, why wont he give it up?? If everything goes through, are we even going ot have cap room left??? Urgh!
How has he be underachieving? How many sacks has given up? Please explain
well he's definitely been underperforming as far as in comparision to what his salary warrants what his play should be like. he's in the top 10 of tackles but I don't know if I'd put him in the top five necessarily and just like smoot, that's what he expects to be paid like, but isn't really worth that amount of money. I for one would like to see him resigned because unlike Smoot, I don't think Samuels has reached his full potential and a very good LT with a starting qb who's right handed(and who's had the snot kicked out of him during his professional career), IMO is much much more important than a really good coverage cb. as for this trade, I do like the big play factor moss will bring here, but with the Jets making it pretty clear he was being moved to the 3rd wr spot, why wouldn't we try to get atleast a second or third round pick along with Moss especially with other teams stepping up their offers.(whatever thos trade offers r, who knows?) and with the report that apparently if the trade goes through, the skins already have established that they will give moss an extension after march 2nd, anyone wanna take a guess on much more money were gonna be giving moss that he probably warrants ;)? |
Re: Moss for Coles (merged)
Picks are overrated, you're getting an unknown commodity in what's not regarded as an overly strong draft class, while with Moss you know exactly what you're getting, and dumping serious baggage at the same time.
Would someone tell that to Philly, New England, and Pitsburgh. |
Re: Moss for Coles (merged)
Any other compensation for us? For them? I would like to know the other teams' offers. :oink:

Do you recall what his bonus is this year?
I dont think Moss gets used to return kickoffs, just punts. Thrash or Brown would probably be the two kickoff guys. And yea, I dont see Morton being here next year unless they think he can still perform and that his injury was just bad luck |
Re: Moss for Coles (merged)
chad is paid a lot to do what brown/thrash/simon/betts can also do... I was actually pretty impressed with brown (despite the crushing fumble), and thrash seemed to do fine as well.
