Re: Redskins Sign RB Ryan Grant/Place Roy Helu Jr. on IR
Not too excited about Ryan as he and Morris have similar running styles. I was hoping for a change of pace back.
I am excited about Ryan's pass protection blocking. I think it's desperately needed considering all the protection issues we've had. |

Re: Redskins Sign RB Ryan Grant/Place Roy Helu Jr. on IR
It's concerning that Helu was borderline IR leading up to the season b/c of his achilles and now he's placed on IR for turf toe. I'd be less concerned, I think, if the same injury that nearly put him on IR in the first place was the one that eventually did.
And I'm not sure they're done with moves
any clues? @Matty, I dunno, think id still prefer Benson to Grant. Grant was really bad last year. Still surprised we didnt go Slaton over Grant. |
Re: Redskins Sign RB Ryan Grant/Place Roy Helu Jr. on IR
I agree with some folks on here saying that this signing has more to do with helping out with pass protection. Grant's addition also says that the Redskins needed to address what they think is an issue - protecting RGIII.
Hopefully, Grant runs well enough to not tip what the Redskins are doing on offense and continue to keep the opposing defenses off-balance. |
Re: Redskins Sign RB Ryan Grant/Place Roy Helu Jr. on IR
Additional moves - let me guess: offensive lineman and/or defensive backs?

No OL really available, far as I know And we added David Jones yesterday |

And we added David Jones yesterday
Yeah, it's slim pickings all the way around at this point. It was just wishful thinking at this point, but I was thinking there might be some surprise move or trade that was up Bruce Allen's sleeve. They must have been very down on Kevin Barnes if he's still available, considering his familiarity with the defense and it's safe to say that the defense hasn't been as good as last year (a defense with Barnes on it) . |
any clues?
@Matty, I dunno, think id still prefer Benson to Grant. Grant was really bad last year. Still surprised we didnt go Slaton over Grant.
Well, it really depends on how serious Royster's injury really is. If he can go Sunday, no problem. If he only misses Sunday probably no problem either, they can get by. If he's going to miss two weeks or more then there's a problem. So, I'm just speculating here. But I honestly don't know the extent of their interest in Grant. I mean clearly it was enough to sign him but I wasn't really aware of the level of interest they had in him over the past months. I do know that Slaton was a guy they were seriously looking at, and nearly traded for multiple times this summer because they saw him as a potential replacement for Helu should he have to go on IR. And I know that what they like about Royster is his ability to be the backup/1A lead back and his ability to pass block, which is what you get in Grant. But it was Helu that went on IR, not Royster. So, long story short, I don't think the interest in Slaton is done because if Royster is down for a while then Grant in for Royster, and Slaton in for Helu. But again, a lot depends on Royster's status which we won't likely know until at least Thursday |

Jones is a better special teams player, and really Jones is in for Butler who's primarily role was special teams |
Re: Redskins Sign RB Ryan Grant/Place Roy Helu Jr. on IR
I read Grant was offered a contract without a workout? Thats kinda strange. The drafting of Alfmo turned out to be very critical, cant have enough young productive RBs.

I'm really disappointed about Helu. I was expecting a great year from him i like the Grant signing. I think he can contribute.
I second this, not because of anything against Grossman. It just doesn't make sense for him to be on the roster, and not dressing for games at this point.
Lets just say rg3 gets hurt. Than does it make sense? |
Coulda gotten Cedric Benson and IR'ed Helu sooner. Just saying
Yeah but we were still undefeated than. Lol |
Re: Redskins Sign RB Ryan Grant/Place Roy Helu Jr. on IR
Well, Redskins have officially announced he's been place on IR so that's all the confirmation I need
Not all that surprising, bigger surprise is that he wasn't placed on IR before the season started. Some of you know I was saying back in July he was a strong candidate for IR. Never could quite get healthy enough. I still hear Royster may miss some time though. Week or two perhaps
I never knew that his achilles was that big of an issue. If it's a Landry type achilles thing, I hope Helu just gets the surgery asap and gets himself right. He's got a lot of football in front of him. |

Sure, Let's assume the following: Grossman is cut today. Who picks Grossman up? Doubtful anyone does right? so he is probably available on the street. next - We put an OL Tackle on the 53 man roster from our practice squad. His practice time shifts to the same as the 53 man Roster, and we add another practice squad CB Going into the next game, Cousins is 2nd backing up RGIII like the first two games. No difference in this Sunday. now, the doomsday you mention. RGIII is hurt in the game. Cousins is still the only qb we have available to play so he goes in. if he does good we pull the practice squad qb up and move on. if he does bad we call Grossman and say if you want the spot its yours, and he comes back and we have a 50/50 year. Ultimately in no way does having Grossman as a Sunday inactive every week make this a better team, but it might make it slightly worse, because of the potential spot that is being used for a qb with no future here. |

Yeah I talked about it with the other mods during that two week span you were mod-banned for...well you know what you did with that chicken and the duct tape. But yeah it's very much a Landry type thing. |

I just think - esp with this oline - that it is important to keep three qbs that are familiar with our o fresh n with the team for this year. Im not going to bat an eye if he is released but im keeping him around sort of like that pair of sneakers that i never want to wear again but am not ready to throw away yet just in case. |

Ok, thats fine but honestly, if Griffin and Cousins go down, Grossman coming in just is like pouring alcohol on a wound, might be the right thing, but it's gonna hurt like hell. |

I guess until i would ever see cousins in a real game im not ready to say he is even better than grossman. So just in case rg3 goes down and the season isnt over i want the option of my old smelly sneaker. Believe though i hear you about grossman. |
Re: Redskins Sign RB Ryan Grant/Place Roy Helu Jr. on IR
Hate to hear that Helu's on IR; he's too injury prone and I question if he'll be back on the team next year. As SS stated, depending on the severity of Royster's injury, and if Slaton remains unsigned, Slaton could sign w/ us down the road.

Re: Redskins Sign RB Ryan Grant/Place Roy Helu Jr. on IR
The skins have had so many different backs since CP.
Betts Cartwright Torain Hightower Helu Morris |
Re: Redskins Sign RB Ryan Grant/Place Roy Helu Jr. on IR
Royster has a sprained PCL, but he's going to try to play on Sunday. Personally I'd be a bit surprised

over/under on Morris remaining as our starting back: 13 games (rest of season)?

If Morris has ever been hurt or been wearing down in games, he hasn't shown it. And here's a bold prediction considering Shanahan's rb by committee, Morris will be a core redskins player and starter for years to come. Just listen to him in interviews. He's a humble, but confident and hard working player. |

As a lawyer, the disgusting things people are capable of rarely surprises me. I mean, sure, who hasn't heard of using a chicken for ... shall we say ... gratification? I mean, in Cecil County, Maryland, it's practically a morning ritual. However, based on the representations of my client, the Chicken, I am shocked and amazed at the abhorrent nature of GMScud's actions. Scud, just because you used the duct tape like that doesn't make what you did consensual. Thanks to you, my client can never again lay eggs and vomits at the sight of a spatula. And yes ... thanks to you, "he" now needs surgery. We shall see you in court sir! |

Here's a Helu question: could the achilles injuries led to turf toe? I'm thinking about how athletes will compensate for an injury in their step or stride, which can lead to other injuries. My curiousity is because it seems strange and pretty worrisome Helu got turf toe w/o a lot of miles, like how injury prone is he? |
