In the Sandy Bill.

Heritage Action For America found the bill contained “$150 million for fishery disasters but the language could allow money to be spent far from the Sandy impact zone in places like American Samoa, which is in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.”

Taxpayers for Common Sense found the bill spent “$20,000 to buy a new car for the Department of Justice inspector general, allows the government to rebuild or relocate flood-prone state facilities in 30 states, has $821 million for dredging projects nationwide and allows loan cancellations for Hurricane Katrina-related loans” in addition to lowering the bar for the “Army Corps of Engineers projects to receive government funding” while

WTF is that and at 13 billion.
I question how he came up with the 13 bil number. Some of his complaints about emergency relief money going to the Virgin Islands as an indication that the bill contains pork spending not related to the Sandy Storm doesnt hold up either as the Virign Islands was impacted by the storm as well.

What i do agree with him on is that emergency disaster relief fund bills shouldnt contain spending for things that should go into and be considered in the normal annual budgeting (such as environmental impact studies or future mitigation studies etc).

Getting money for ppl to get food, clothes, clean up and rebuilding is fine. Using this as an opportunity to grab funding to upgrade NJ sewer systems should be in the annual normal budget.

Seems the list a pretty good amount of items that had nothing to do with getting any money to the people as needed. Not saying these things did not need addressing but they were not helping the people right after Sandy. Also not 64% of the bills spending did not start for 2 yrs. HMMM how the hell does that help anyone.

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senators John McCain (R-AZ) and Tom Coburn (R-OK) today released the following statement on the $60.4 billion Hurricane Sandy supplemental spending bill before Congress this week:

“As Congress considers the $60.4 billion Hurricane Sandy supplemental spending bill this week, it is critical that we ensure taxpayer dollars go to help those impacted by this devastating storm and not to wasteful spending projects. We have already identified many issues that need to be addressed in this legislation.

“This is a preliminary list of questionable spending in the bill:

•$2 million to repair damage to the roofs of museums in Washington, D.C., while many in Hurricane Sandy’s path still have no roof over their own heads.
•$150 million for fisheries as far away from the storm’s path as Alaska.
•$125 million for the Department of Agriculture’s Emergency Watershed Protection program, which helps restore watersheds damaged by wildfires and drought.
•$20 million for a nationwide Water Resources Priorities Study.
•$15 million for NASA facilities, though NASA itself has called its damage from the hurricane ‘minimal.’
•$50 million in subsidies for tree planting on private properties.
•$336 million for taxpayer-supported AMTRAK without any detailed plan for how the money will be spent.
•$5.3 billion for the Army Corps of Engineers – more than the Corps’ annual budget – with no statement of priorities about how to spend the money.
•$12.9 billion for future disaster mitigation activities and studies, without identifying a single way to pay for it.

“All told, 64 percent of the $60.4 billion in ‘emergency’ spending in this legislation will not be spent for nearly two years.

“Americans impacted by Hurricane Sandy deserve better than this. We look forward to working with our colleagues to address these issues on the floor of the Senate this week.”

This is how a disaster bill should work. A set of funds should be submitted in a bill with absolutely NO pork or funds appropriated to anything other than it relating to the disaster. If any congressman votes against the bill, he will be excluding his state for future disaster funds in such an emergency. Oh, you don't want to vote for the bill Mr. Congressional guy from Alabama....well next tornado that ravages your state, you are shit out of luck. I say put it back on the people, the voters. They send these clowns to Washington, DC, let them feel the brunt of their stupid decisions to put morons in elected offices.

I don't care what party it is if there is pork in the bill then it should not get passed. A Dem added the pork to get votes but other in the Rep party said they would not support the bill. You do realize hpw much stuff can be added into a bill that is related to a disaster but still be pork. Most of the stuff in the sandy bill was in some way tied to the disaster but was not neede to actually help the people.

The problem here is FD, is you have congressman who are saying they won't vote for your disaster bill unless you add their pork to it. We call this a bribe. Which is why I say, let the bill go as is, whoever votes no for it.....no longer gets any federal funds in a emergency disaster. It's really that simple.

The GOP is doing its best to destroy the state of NC.

http://www.nytimes.com/2013/07/10/opinion/the-decline-of-north-carolina.html?smid=fb-share&_r=1&
In January, after the election of Pat McCrory as governor, Republicans took control of both the executive and legislative branches for the first time since Reconstruction. Since then, state government has become a demolition derby, tearing down years of progress in public education, tax policy, racial equality in the courtroom and access to the ballot.

The cruelest decision by lawmakers went into effect last week: ending federal unemployment benefits for 70,000 residents. Another 100,000 will lose their checks in a few months. Those still receiving benefits will find that they have been cut by a third, to a maximum of $350 weekly from $535, and the length of time they can receive benefits has been slashed from 26 weeks to as few as 12 weeks.

The state has the fifth-highest unemployment rate in the country, and many Republicans insulted workers by blaming their joblessness on generous benefits. In fact, though, North Carolina is the only state that has lost long-term federal benefits, because it did not want to pay back $2.5 billion it owed to Washington for the program. The State Chamber of Commerce argued that cutting weekly benefits would be better than forcing businesses to pay more in taxes to pay off the debt, and lawmakers blindly went along, dropping out of the federal program. Seems smart to me. Too many people riding the system and not even looking for a job. I'd love to know the number of how many people actually found a new job right about the time their unemployment ran out. My guess its pretty high. If you pay people to sit on their ass they will sit on thier ass.

Re: The Obama Years- A GOP love story

Ah, Princess Nancy....

1.“The Bible tells us in the Old Testament, ‘To minister to the needs of God’s creation is an act of worship. To ignore those needs is to dishonor the God who made us.’ On this Earth Day, and every day, let us pledge to our children, and our children’s children, that they will have clean air to breathe, clean water to drink, and the opportunity to experience the wonders of nature.”

Nice. The only problem is the Old Testament contains no such quote.

2. “This initiative is funded by the high end – we call it Astroturf It’s not really a grassroots movement.”

Just gut-wrenching hypocrisy -Astroturf is all the Dem Socialists know, so naturally she accuses her political opposition of what her side does in spades.

3. “Every week we don’t pass a Stimulus package, 500 million Americans lose their jobs.”

Yeah, she actually said that.

4. I’m confident…I’m hopeful that we’ll have a (health care) bill as a Christmas present for the American people.

This, after polls were showing a majority of the American people were against it, after several weeks of bruising (for Dems) town hall meetings in which citizens voiced their opposition to the bill, and after hundreds of thousands showed up in Washington to protest the bill…

5.. You go through the gate. If the gate’s closed, you go over the fence. If the fence is too high, we’ll pole-vault in. If that doesn’t work, we’ll parachute in. But we’re going to get health care reform passed for the American people.

At the time, 61% of the American people were saying it was time for Congress to scrap ObamaCare.

6.“Unemployment benefits are creating jobs faster than practically any other program”

Imagine how many jobs we could create if everyone quit their jobs! Wait…..

7. “I believe in natural gas as a clean, cheap alternative to fossil fuels.”

Needless to say, natural gas is a fossil fuel.

8. “I think it’s unAmerican.” (to enforce immigration law).

She said that to a Hispanic audience, and refused to clarify the statement when Fox News called her office later on for comment.

9. Well, the family planning services reduce cost. They reduce cost.

This was in response to a question from George Stephanopoulos about the wisdom of spending millions of dollars on birth control funding in the stimulus package.

10. “We have to pass the (health care) bill so you can find out what is in it”.

This stunning demonstration of political condescension was meant to calm the fears of the public – trust them – they know what’s good for us…

Lolololol

Here is another dumb cunt that fully supported the illegal spying of the NSA/ CIA, until she realized they were spying on them. All of these corporate schills need to be jettisoned out of office.

Obama has to be the most divisive president we have had since I first voted for Reagan in 1980. He demonizes the wealthy and businesses, I never heard a Democratic president bad mouth Republicans so much. He has accomplished next to nothing but continues to blame everyone but himself. His approval rating is at his all time low and he quickly is closing in on being rated as low as George W. Bush was his last months in office, yet most Democrats I know still love him, WTF????
