Re: The Manti Te'o Dead Girlfriend Hoax Web of Lies
Teo also ha an elaborate mushy story about meeting her for the first time and how their eyes met for the first time... and said he sent white roses after she died and that it was a closed casket funeral. Whatever his motives were, the man is a pathological liar. He apparently loves attention so Im sure hrs getting a kick out of all this.

Re: The Manti Te'o Dead Girlfriend Hoax Web of Lies
Maybe I'm not understanding this whole thing. So clear this up for me guys, in case I'm wrong...
This kid (Te'o) talked to a girl over the internet, met her, continued the relationship, then randomly she "dies", then randomly she "calls him and says she's not dead", then he continues acting like she's dead, until the press breaks the story and he fesses up that he was had? If I'm right (which I'm not sure if I am), how is that his fault at all? The guy's probably incredibly embarrassed.
I'm leaning towards thinking he was in on the whole thing because it would be good publicity for him to have the season he had after his gf and his grandma dying on the same week. But I've been hesitant to comment on the story because I don't believe we really have the clear picture here yet. Could it be true that he is gay and the gf was a cover up attempt that he eventually decided to discard, without realizing people would do their research on it? He actually talked about being with his gf in person, and now we now that his gf didn't exist I have to believe he was in on it. The whole "calling her every night" thing reeks of him being on it too, I doubt there would be any girl out there willing to spend the entire night on the phone with him for months on end just to keep a hoax running. I just don't see any way he wasn't in on this, whether it was for publicity reasons or personal reasons. But still, we don't know all the facts yet, so I am not going to be set in my opinion until we do. |

The interwebz does this in no time at all!
i'd like to mention that i wasted a large amount of time w a girl a had never met. who indeed, was pretending to be someone else. plenty of phone calls, texts, online communication. when she finally came clean, she wasn't even ugly or anything, but i was done.
yeah it was extremely embarrassing because i was talking to my friends about her. i wasn't dating other girls. i was really looking forward to meeting her. but i didn't tell my friends she died. i took it on the chin and moved on, lesson learned
If she wasnt bad looking what was she lying about? |
Put away the tin foil hat bro. I doubt he did this to drum up Heisman votes or detract people from knowing he was gay. If that were the case, he wouldn't have made the elaborate story of her dying or having cancer. That would be drawing attention to something you really didn't want exposed. Besides, how many athletes do you know currently that are having their sexuality challenged?
Kid just got duped like a many other people in this world. You all act as if this is something rare. It's not. People fake things all the time on the internet, and you can connect with people without ever meeting them. Now, if he was involved in this whole thing, kid should be kicked in the balls for using cancer to gain sympathy. [YT]S67CTVVv3KQ[/YT]
Wrong. Others have written the same thing. As a matter of fact the article that Smoot posted in the other thread references the fact that rite after her death is when his Heisman campaign went full throttle. The whole deal with Te'o was his courage to play in the face of all that adversity |
comments like this are driving me crazy. Read the story.

Re: The Manti Te'o Dead Girlfriend Hoax Web of Lies
If she wasnt bad looking what was she lying about?
that's a great question.
she had serious issues, and i obviously had some issues of my own for trusting/pursuing this kind of thing. when she finally came clean, i tried to forgive/forget. she came to town for a visit, we spent a couple days together, she went back home. i still tried to forgive and forget but i couldn't past it, couldn't put any trust there, etc. i told her to have a nice life, and that was that. |
Re: The Manti Te'o Dead Girlfriend Hoax Web of Lies
The longer it takes for teo to respond, the more I know he's a liar.
I just want now at this point, for teo to say "I am a gay man who has covered up his sexuality with an Internet lie. I am truly sorry. I did bad in the national championship because I had just found out AJ McCarron wasn't gay, and it broke my heart." (ok well maybe not the last part) |

I don't care how involved in a hoax someone is, they wouldn't talk to him, on the phone, all night as he claims. But he claims lots of conflicting things. |

That very well may be the case, but I'm simply speculating on what most likely happened. To be honest, I haven't read much on it, nor do I care to. To me, it's a non-story. A dude lying (or tricked) about a girlfriend on the intrawebz. Whether it was some grand scheme or he's a innocent victim doesn't really concern me. If he did lie about her death to gain sympathy, it's a pretty douche bag thing to do and maybe karma bites him in the ass one day. As far as the Heisman, there wasn't any stopping the Johnny Football train. Last I checked, they don't give out sympathy votes for the Heisman. If it was a plan, it was a bad one. |

Re: The Manti Te'o Dead Girlfriend Hoax Web of Lies
For those that don't seem to think this is a big deal, would you draft him? And would you spend a 1st round pick on him?

Hell no. I don't think its a huge deal (yet. my opinion could change as more facts become available) but I think the fact he's become a media spectacle and he's not even in the NFL yet hurts his draft stock. |
Re: The Manti Te'o Dead Girlfriend Hoax Web of Lies
Much of what made him so valuable in NFL scouts eyes were the intangibles-leadership, character, integrity-all that is in serious question right now.
I think the whole thing is fascinating. And if he was in on it, which I think he was, I don't think you just brush it off with "well some people who fell for it donated to cancer research" so it's all good. |

I'm thinking he's just a liar and perhaps has some issues upstairs. Often the most simple explanation makes the most sense. |
Re: The Manti Te'o Dead Girlfriend Hoax Web of Lies
I've actually been wondering about how an openly gay player would be accepted in the locker room. I'm sure, publically, players and coaches would say the right things and show support. However, I can see alot of guys being uncomfortable changing clothes, showering, etc. in presence of an openly gay player. However, if you arrange a seperate area for that player to change/shower, then youre isolating him and he doesnt feel like he's "part of the team."
I can also see opposing team players saying some really awful things on the field. Players talk smack and i sure they insult eachothers mothers and use derroagotory slang for gays when talking to eachother all the time - its a reality that smack talk is part of the game. Would players be sensitive to the gay players feelings, and obstain from "gay-related" smack talk? Or would it give them extra ammunition to say some really awful things - not only to the player, but to his team mates? Right or wrong, as a practical matter, i could understand a gay player's making up a story to cover over his sexual preference. And while thats a popular theory thats been speculated on here, and other places, i dont see it. Some of his teammates say he really loved talking about his imaginary girlfriend and relished the attention. It could be he's just an attention whore.
There are already active gay NFL players that teammates know about. No one talks about it but there there. |
For those that don't seem to think this is a big deal, would you draft him? And would you spend a 1st round pick on him?
I think its a huge deal but i would still draft him. Call me crazy. If he has a good combine than yea i would spend a first rd pick on him. |
I'm thinking he's just a liar and perhaps has some issues upstairs.
Often the most simple explanation makes the most sense.
That imo would be the biggest shock of all. To find out this was all an elaborate hoax on his part for apparently no reason. Omg. Edit: to watch this guy go from being some sort of golden boy, full of faith and drive to possible looney is just so bizzare. If indeed he is lying about it all. |

Hoax or no hoax after it is said and done who is the victim? To me it is not the end of the world for this guy. He will get draft fairly high. |
I would draft him too. I just probably would try not to bond with him in anyway and might think everything he said was bullshit. However - if u show up on time and play well u can still be on my football team.

To me it is not the end of the world for this guy. Is this a kid you want to put into your locker room and tap as a future leader that can be trusted? We don't know how deep this goes yet or how he'll handle it when he's grilled on it. For all we know the guy could have some serious issues. |

Look back through all of sports, and there are massive head cases that played brilliantly. Babe Ruth and Lawrence Taylor jump out at me right off the bat. Are you saying no to either of those in their prime for your favorite sports teams? Lets just say he is fully 100% guilty of starting and continuing this hoax looking for attention. He chose something that only hurts himself. Its sports, people want wins, not choir boys. Its not something that will keep him out of the NFL. If driving drunk and killing someone doesnt get you kicked out of the NFL, then this will have little effect. Also, if people can never learn from mistakes, why did we keep Trent and Fred? Something tells me that Teo is not plotting his new internet girlfriend anytime soon. |
For those that don't seem to think this is a big deal, would you draft him? And would you spend a 1st round pick on him?
Cam Newton was drafted #1 overall and had red flags galore. (theft, cheating, lying about being offered money) Ben Rothlesberger raped women in bathrooms and still has a 100 million dollar contract and a NFL job. Ray Lewis was in a fight that led to a double homicide, and helped try to cover the crime up that his friends commited. He went on to be paid vast sums of money and will be playing for the AFC championship this weekend. Terrell Owens has thrown many coaches and teammates under the bus that he's been with and still was offered a tryout this past off-season. Randy Moss was drafted in the 1st after many red flags during college. Even after he's shown time and time to quit on plays, he still manages to have a job and will be playing for the NFC championship this weekend. Pacman Jones, who's antics in a night club landed a man paralyzed, is still playing in the NFL. Kenny Britt has been arrested twice now on different charges, and has recently been brought in for questioning regarding a stabbing that occurred to a friend. ..and so on. So in the grand scheme of it, no, this guy lying about some girl (if he did indeed lie) doesn't come close to what any of these guys above have done. When I said in my post that it wasn't a big deal, I was talking about on a personal level. In a world where people have their priorities straight, none of these guys I mentioned would be playing in the NFL. As it is, owners (in part because of their fans) overlook these issues (and crimes) so they can root for their favorite team come Sunday. It's a obsession with some people, and pretty sad if you ask me. |
oh, sorry,
