You could argue that 4/5 o-linemen need to be replaced.

Easily. Montgomery disappointed me as well as Kory. No faith now. Let that kid get destroyed. |

That's the type of ish that the Redskins will try to use to justify not addressing the position. I watch every single game and Polumbus sucks. |

Re: Current 2014 Free Agents
We need to get maulers on the oline and we need to get alittle attitude in the front seven of the defense. I want to get talented guys no doubt, but like to see a little more fire and guys with maybe a mean streak.
Miami tried it, it didn't work.
Tampa Bay tried it, it didn't work for them. Bills tried it to some extent, it didn't work for them. There is a reason that teams like the Pats, Packers, Ravens, Seahawks, Saints, 49ers, and now the Panthers have been successful. They do not panic and sign big name free agents. All those teams draft their own players, develop them, and stay patient even when fans are screaming for them to spend 80 million dollars on a free agent that will magically fix the team. They still sign players, but they wait until they have the leverage. Only exception is a franchise QB. But teams do not let those guys go very often.
Aqib Talib, Danny Amendola, Anquan Boldin, Marshawn Lynch, Darren Sproles, and Ben Grubbs are are all pretty big free agents acquired by some of these teams. You make it sound like people are asking for the team to go after an Albert Haynesworth type player all over again. We've already drafted a lot of young talented players that we're developing. You know that CORE of players that you don't think makes up the core of our team? That's them. I'm sure we're going to draft a whole bunch of young players again in this year's draft. But I'm sure we can get a decent starter or two through free agency. After Garcon's success as a free agent acquisition (hey what do you know, a successful free agent signing), I'm willing to put my faith on Bruce Allen to get another impact player (or two) through free agency. |
Boldin was close to retiring last yr wasn't he? I doubt he plays for anyone else
|
Re: Current 2014 Free Agents
Boldin was last a Free Agent when he signed with the Ravens. He was traded to the 49ers. I remember when Marshawn Lynch was a free agent and no one wanted to give him a shot because he was labeled a "trouble maker" in Buffalo (SMH). Now he is the Seahawks best player on offense.
I have a question for the group... Would you give Richie Incognito a chance here in Washington? He is a mauler with attitude. He was arguably the Dolphins best interior lineman and a captain before all that ish happened. He will bring the NASTY to the front 5, thoughts? I also think Kenny Britt can do well under the right coaching staff. He is only 25 has great size and ability. I see him going to the Giants and making an impact. We may be too fragile of a Franchise to turn him around. |

Re: Current 2014 Free Agents
FYI - M. Lynch was a mid season trade, not a UFA.

Re: Current 2014 Free Agents
One guy who may be flying under the radar on the WR list is E. Sanders out of Pitt. He is a very good number 2 who flashes some big games opposite A. Brown. Pitt just drafted high round rookie so they may not pursue Sanders strongly. Not sure if he is a scheme fit, just know he makes plays up in Pitt.

Re: Current 2014 Free Agents
We can do a lot better than Incognito on and off the field.

You are correct. I was wrong but I do remember him having a bad rep coming out of Buffalo because of a Gun charge. |

He was on the Redskins radar, or actually we were on his radar. I'd keep an eye on him |
Re: Current 2014 Free Agents
I would not suggest trying to spend our 2nd or 3rd rounder on a WR. I would build from the trenches first. We had a very small offensive line this year. Anybody know how the Bengals ranked in terms of weight amongst offensive lines last year? I thought they were pretty big but I could be wrong. If Gruden prefers bigger linemen I think you let WR be taken care of in free agency and use your draft picks on sturdy linemen, along with a free agent or two. I'd look at possibly changing out the entire line but Trent.
They need to be quick to run zone read schemes but the pressure up the middle from the stronger DTs just ruin's RG3's chances at developing. Have to get bigger IMO. |

I like him, just at times he it a little inconsistent, but he wouldn't command a pretty penny. |
I'd like Sanders he'd be a good slot as well
|
Re: Current 2014 Free Agents
Emmanuel Sanders is just another guy who can't catch. He's had as many big drops as he's had big plays. We once had a guy here that we nicknamed "50/50". He drove us crazy. So would Sanders.

Re: Current 2014 Free Agents
The O-lineman on our roster now better beef up, and not in a LeRibeus way either.

Are you challenged? I never said I wanted LeRibeus starting. I said I wanted to see them invest in the offensive line and get bigger. Bigger does not need to mean fatter, it can mean larger and stronger. |

Re: Current 2014 Free Agents
Not a free agent yet, but it's looking like Dallas releases Miles Austin (big cap hit) before the June 1st deadline.
Does he have anything left in the tank? |

He's using the old BMI standard, where if you're 6'5 and 300 then you're fat as shit and doesn't account for muscle to fat ratio. :silly: |

It's unlikely but possible that Dallas lets D.Ware walk, too.

That was well before LeRib put on so much weight. He was so heavy the team didn't even activate him for the games this season. You can't play OL in today's NFL without quickness, the days of the Hogs are gone. They got it done on pure power runs and brute strength. Joe Gibbs and Don Breaux tried that offense in 2004 and it failed miserably because the DTs are too quick, they penetrate, fill the gaps and disrupt the slow-developing pulls. Maybe LeRib will play well if he regains his quickness by losing some weight, who knows. Sure, throw him in the mix as camp competition. But I'd definitely like to see a personnel overhaul on the line. |

Ware could be a nice stop gap if we let Orakpo walk. Though I would hate to lose him. I feel that with an improved offense, we can have a very aggressive defense. |
Dallas wants ware to take a paycut, he said he'd restructure but won't take a big dip. Guess we'll see
