Re: Set it all aside -- Training Camp Begins

It's 9:40 AM on Sunday the first week of camp and CSN is running promo TV all morning? wtf.

I turned on NFL network yesterday to try to get all ginned up about football and they spent the first 20 minutes talking about Manziel. Then they went to redskins camp where it was Deon Sanders talking with Garcon, Jackson, and Griffin for like 5-10 minutes, then it was back to Manziel.

*sigh*

Re: Set it all aside -- Training Camp Begins

NFLN seriously needs to chill out with the Manziel coverage. I think they would film him going to the bathroom if he let them.

He is going to get his airtime, just like Luck and Griffin did. Personally, while I want Skins news I am just as happy to let the focus be off this team for now. Hopefully by mid-season the media will be focusing on the skins for all the right reasons.
Got my lucky acceptance at 8:18PM. Taking my eight year old for the first time. Can't wait. Any tips??
Get there early and get a good spot. Bring comfy shoes and be prepared to stand; if you want to sit bring chairs and still get there early for a good spot. Dont wear your best cloths, you may get a lil muddy and a lil sweaty. Bring a flask, cause i couldnt find beers last year. Try the food trucks from the Richmond area that will be there...pretty good stuff.

Wow, didn't see something like this coming THAT quickly. Brandon Jenkins = cut, as per Chris Russell.

Wonder if something happened behind the scenes on that unusually early cut or if that was just sending a message to the players new regime in town, gotta work hard 24/7.

Re: Set it all aside -- Training Camp Begins

Yeah, surprising. El-Bashir says Jenkins had a "particularly poor effort" this morning, so I guess the effort just hasn't been there. Like Chico said, perhaps Jay making an example of him? Probably a lack of enthusiasm for special teams had something do with it too. Whatever the case, it's disappointing.

Apparently, Maurice Hurt was activated from the non-football injury list.

Adding on to the Jenkins posts from above.

@Russellmania980

Brandon Jenkins was let go to give him a chance elsewhere, but also because Jay said Adrian Robinson and even Gabe Miller have been better

I guess Jenkins isn't going to be my project to watch this summer.

Re: Set it all aside -- Training Camp Begins

I don't know if Miller can play, however on paper he looks much better than Jenkins. Miller has 4.65 speed and did 33 reps on the bench press

Surprising that Jenkins got cut in that it happened so quick. Considering he was a bubble guy all the way, I say who cares. I'd rather have Rob Jackson anyway.

I think with the cut we can add someone, any clue who will it be?

From this article by El-Bashir:
With a roster spot open, the Redskins plan to invite a few players to try out tomorrow. One of those players will be 26-year-old Everette Brown, a 6-4, 250 pound defensive end who has played for Carolina, San Diego and Dallas. Last season, Brown had a sack, a forced fumble and 10 tackles in seven games with the Cowboys.
Jackson is solid depth, but I was hoping Jenkins could surpass him. Guess he never quite recovered from his injury.

Oh, and reports from Sunday's practice were that Turnstyler Polumbus pancaked Jackson... Oy vey.

Also, as far as being surprised by cuts, there's a new sheriff in town. I wouldn't be surprised by any cuts (outside of the blatantly obvious uncuttable players).

DE Everette Brown has been signed. Makes sense getting a DE in here with Bowen and Hatcher out at this point.

Didn't they sign Brown once before? Or am I getting senile? I'm pretty sure he was at least a camp invite at one point under Shammy.

One name popping up a ton early is Chris Thompson...heard it again from Keim this morning doing a good job picking up a blocker in the back field. Really hope this guy can stay healthy.

after morris and young, i dont think we can carry all 3 of thompson, seastrunk and helu ... i look forward to seeing how it plays out and i hope injuries dont make the decision for us.

Re: Set it all aside -- Training Camp Begins

I noticed that Coach Gruden praised WR Cody Hoffman. This guy is no camp scrub. He holds every receiving record at BYU which is saying something. He has the size and the hands to be a true Red Zone threat.

I saw him play a few times on TV when he was in college and I was very impressed. Why wasn't he drafted? Slow 40 time? Injured?

I'll be keeping an eye on him. He might just make the team.

SirLK26 07-28-2014 02:06 PM

Re: Set it all aside -- Training Camp Begins

I seen the praise for Hoffman as well. I think he could earn a spot on the roster. Too early to know anything for sure, but in Keim's roster predictions today, he mentions that he doesn't think Hankerson will be ready to start the season on the active roster, and that Robinson has had a quiet camp in too many ways. Plus, Jay always talks about versatility and Hoffman offers size, like you said, something we lack at receiver.

Irrefutable 07-28-2014 05:14 PM

Re: Set it all aside -- Training Camp Begins

how many WRs will they keep ? even if Hankerson is on the PUP list, can Hoffman beat-out Moss, Robinson, or Grant ?

SmootSmack 07-28-2014 05:18 PM

Re: Set it all aside -- Training Camp Begins

I'd be pretty stunned if Hoffman made the team, maybe practice squad

My guess is 6: Garcon, DJax, Roberts, Grant, Moss, and then either Robinson or Hoffman. I would say Hankerson, but I think it's doubtful he'll start the season on the active roster.

SMH...RG3 and now Allen obviously can't let go of their disdain for Shanahan. All I remember is everyone saying RG3 was fine and ready to go. Everyone was all smiles on the sidelines during pre season, RG3 is running all around the field during warmups, then they start losing and it's "he shouldn't be on the field." Seriously they just need to let go of last year in the worst way. What's disrespectful was winning 3 games.

Not to cross streams but stuff like this always brings me back to George Mcphee's famous quote, "if you knew enough about the game, you'd be in the game."

If that was the case why is it that almost every fan was screaming for RG3 to come out of that Seattle game and many wanted to wait until after the bye to start him up the following season?

Some of this stuff is clear as day and it's infuriating when the people at the reins can't see what is plainly obvious to regular folk.

I'm more pissed about him starting the year last season, because there is no understandable "heat of the moment" excuse. Allen is throwing himself under the bus for admitting this based in his public comments. It's a troubling sign for the franchise, and all I'll say is pull your head out of your ass and do what's best for the organization next time.
