Re: Wade Phillips to Interview with the Redskins

It occurs to me that the hiring of McCloughan helps us on getting the DC we want. What DC candidate isn't going to look favorably upon a team where he is picking out your players in light of his track record at SF and Seattle? Every DC candidate should now look at DC as a great destination. We should be very deliberate here and make a good choice, as our new GM should give us some leverage to do so.
People are talking about Wade Phillips like we are signing a 38 year old CB to a 5 year deal
If the Redskins were hiring Phillips as a HC I would have some concerns.....but as a DC he is proven to have fielded superb defenses in his career. If hired he would be a great asset to the Redskins.....

Re: Wade Phillips to Interview with the Redskins

I agree. Having said that, if we go the route of an up-and-comer, I really hope we get lucky and get someone who nails it. Phillips is a reasonably sure bet, and it's hard to take a lot of risks when you're strapped for talent because failure hurts you far worse.

Re: Wade Phillips to Interview with the Redskins

The Giants have requested permission to interview Redskins DBs coach Raheem Morris for their defensive coordinator vacancy.

In two years with Morris at the helm of the Redskins' secondary, the unit has ranked 24th and 20th against the pass. A lot of that has to do with talent deficiencies, which is why Morris is at least getting a look. Expect the Giants to cast a wide net in their search for Perry Fewell's replacement. Morris is also considered a candidate to replace Jim Haslett as defensive coordinator in Washington.

Im on my way to northern va to pack his bags...heck ill put in for a one way ticket

Morris has been considered a talented coach, but I have to think the Giants are doing a little in division snooping while they are doing their search.

I dont want this guy as a head coach if/when Jay gets fired after next year. No way

As much as I am a Phillips fan, I am glad they seem to be conducting an actual search.

I believe Phillips has the inside track but am not convinced he has it locked up.

Mangini is interesting in a number of ways. Another solid DC candidate w/ head coaching experience. Again, don't think I would want him as a HC, but am comfortable with him as a DC.

Why is it a given that Jay is fired next year? He's finally got the reigns to hire his own staff. How about we give him some time. It works for real teams.

Leaving aside the fact that there are real reasons to doubt Gruden, the fact is that he doesn't work alone. Bruce has been there five years. If we go 4-12 again, the smart decision will be to clean house and start from scratch.

And, given that Bruce Allen has averaged 5-11 seasons since he has been here, there is a very good chance that we will suck again, regardless of who is coaching.

Let me cherry pick the last sentence of your first paragraph. For the first time in a long time, our organization is not about next year.

I get the feeling it is about building a team that has the depth to compete year in and year out.

The success that SF enjoyed because of the new GM didn't occur immediately. They endured several bad losing seasons while building not buying talent and depth. When he left them for Seattle, SF was big, talented, and had great depth. They barely missed a beat due to injuries.

We need to be one of those organizations. The new GM's philosophy prioritizes long term success rather than instant gratification. I love this move by our FO.

But we still have Bruce. And if you think he is going to be content printing tickets while others do all the cool stuff, I'd like to sell you the Brooklyn Bridge.

One of the points of emphasis I noticed in the presser was the need for the owner to have patience. It seems that McC wanted assurances of independence, resources, and patience from the owner in order to take the job. Let's hope Snyder keeps his word in these areas.

It's difficult to believe that LeBeau would quit his job with Pitt just so he can coach the "Raiders of the East."

I really find this situation strange. Are the steelers seriously blaming lebeau for the defense over the fo inability to replace that aging defense? Just a year ago Todd Haley was almost fired and now is extended and lebeau looks to be forced out.

That front office has done an extremely poor job in the draft and free agency on the that defense. Only the Harrison move has really paid off the last couple years.

Dick Lebeau resigned. He was not fired.
Will Dick LeBeau be the first person to make the NFL Hall of Fame as both a player and coach? His credentials are untouchable. Credited for inventing the zone blitz.

Like someone posted earlier look at his previous and recent track record. Hous' D under Phillip was a monster. WP as a head coach not so good; WP the D-Coordinator very good, to say the least.
