To me, a trap game is one in which you overlook the opponent or otherwise have reasons going into the game for not being fully ready. As a result, a team you should beat finds a way to beat you.

It's prime time, first place in division and control of their destiny is on the line, it the motherf***ing Cowboys!! If they are not ready to play, if they don't come out fired up, or if they do not bring their A-game tonight, well, it's same old same old.

This is a statement game. Not code red, not "season on the line," but, rather, a game in which they can say to the rest of the league: "We are here and you better not underestimate us anymore." It's time to win and win big on prime time.

I have been alive long enough to see Longley come in and throw 2 tds and Dallas beat us on thanksgiving.Ive seen Staubach rip the playoffs out of our hands when it was virtually a sure thing we were in.In 2 season 88-89 I witnessed the worst team in the league{Cowboys}have their only wins in their last 21 games be against us at RFK,I could go on.
When you have witnessed this over so many years you become the eternal pessimist, and you never ever think beating the cowboys is going to be easy or money in the bank.

Yes and it was not true, and it is still not, and you can still look at our recent history on primetime. As far as I know the results have not changed. Im not making it up? Lol. Just last year we beat Dallas and Philly in primetime games. Half of our wins were on primetime. Seattle game - in Primetime- was one of our better games too. So - again - I say that under Gruden (which is what i said earlier this year) - the notion that we dont show up for primetime- is bologna.

We are 2-3 as best i can recollect under gruden on primetime. The seattle loss was well played. The team this man inherited didnt win games period, yet half his wins in year one were on primetime. The other two losses were against the Giants. They have had our number - until last week - since 2012. It is a ridiculous notion that we under preform on primetime. Now u wanna talk about road games than have at it. You will get no argument from me.

Re: It's Dallas week Mother Fu#&ers!!

I wouldn't classify this as a trap game, we are a 5-6 team playing a division opponent. At 5-6 you have no logical reason to overlook any opponent. That doesn't mean it doesn't scare me as a situation though.

This is a game I believe our team has to go out and make a statement early in. If you are Dallas then your biggest goal is likely to just keep it close, so late in the game someone like Dez Bryant can go make a game changing play. We have to have Dallas mentally checked out by the 4th quarter.

I will be extremely frustrated if we stifle Dallas early with turnovers like we did last week against the Giants, but convert it into zero points. I truly thought that was going to cost us the game last week.

Tonight is simply the night we show what team we really are. Realistically, at best, we're a mediocre+ team. But...if we can be that mediocre+ team (which is better than we have been) on the upswing then I'll feel really good about this team and direction. Forget the "nation"...they need to show us, the fans, that the drama is gone, the leadership is strong, the sense or team outweighs the me, the lights aren't too big, the mentality is solid, etc... They can do that tonight by doing their job. They could do all that and lose, that's what a mediocre team is, but ultimately they need to show up tonight and ball out. Leave it all out there, play smart and I'll be content.

Ive had plenty of moments of pessimism. Plenty. Lol. And of course anybody can beat anybody anytime. The teams playing tonight however are clearly on different paths this year imo. If you cant feel optimistic about us playing at home, against a team with 3 wins and Matt Cassell at qb than you just cannot feel optimistic.

Feel like we should get the win...we are playing better, more consistent and we're at home.

I'm sick of hearing about the Dallas O-line, its like the only thing they got that's worth a shit. The analyst and announcers are always ball-washing them dudes.

I would love us to come out and dominant both LOS, just out-physical these jackass on national tv. Want to see our Dline getting in the backfield and our Oline reaching second level running the ball.

Nothing more would make me happier than Trent owning Greg Hardy tonight, to the point Hardy explodes on the side lines.

Also, would love to see our first round draft pick embrace the rivalry and just blow up some folks run blocking. First time on the national stage and introduce himself to the country.

Re: It's Dallas week Mother Fu#&ers!!

I think there's a little too much being made out of this game as far as the "big picture" goes. We could win this game and still lose the division, and we could lose this game and still win the division.

The NFC East is just a bad division this year which is giving opportunity to 4 teams who realistically have no business sniffing the playoffs. I know people look at the team's opportunity and want it to translate into them magically becoming something they aren't but the fact is, everything we have seen out this team thus far shows they are a .500 team which means defining the team based on a single game like a lot of people are seeming to do with the game tonight, is not the way to go.

Looking at thes game through the narrow tunnel vision of just this game, yes I do think we should win and have a great chance to do so. I just don't want it to make it a bigger deal than it is which of course because it is Dallas and Monday Night Football it is already in the spotlight regardless of any season implications.

If we win I am sure the reaction by the media is going to be "6-6 Redskins beat a 3-8 Tony Romo-less Cowboys team to take 1 game lead in awful NFC East" and really there is a lot of truth in that headline, although yes there is a bit more too it for folks who cover the team specifically, but in the big picture none of those factors matter. The national media doesn't care about that stuff, they just look at a team's record and frame the story from there.

Listening to the radio at work today (boy can I barely even concentrate on work...2.5 more hours to go) a lot of listeners are treating this game like the 2012 Season finale vs. Dallas and this is a totally different scenario. This game while a win will be pretty big, is not for the NFC East title. There is still a month worth of games left that the team has to go out and perform and try to win.

Its Dallas, with the conference on the line. We need to be ready from the start. Without Romo, we should win this game. But this is also The Redskins vs the cowboys... and anyone can win these games regardless of who is playing or not.

Week 13. 2 games separating the division. It is a division game at home. We cant win on the road. This is as big as the big picture gets.
Week 13. 2 games separating the division. It is a division game at home. We cant win on the road. This is as big as the big picture gets.
I was referring to the big picture in the re-building of the franchise itself. In all honesty, if before the season started we knew we'd be 5-6 but nothing about any of the other teams most of us would figure we'd be out of the discussion for the division/playoffs. Circumstances outside our control has made it so a sub .500 team is playing to take a game lead in the division.

All I am saying is that this game's importance is enhanced because of the present situation, but in the overall big picture as in the next 2-3 seasons of results I don't think too much can be made out of this one.

Of course it is huge for the present moment though.

I agree with all 3 points in this article:
Redskins-Cowboys Preview/Pick | ESPN 980
The Redskins beat the Cowboys if….

1. …they jump on Dallas early. The Cowboys have delusions that they can run the table and get to the playoffs with Matt Cassel at quarterback. The Skins have had great first halves at home. They’ve had the lead in five of their six at Fed Ex and in four of their six have had big leads. A fast start….something like a 17-3 halftime lead should put the thought of an early off-season into the minds of Dallas.

2. …they play defense like they did last week. Last week was easily the best defensive day of the year and it started with run defense. Dallas will want to run the football and control the ball thinking that the formula for a win on the road is to do what they do best and steer clear of what they don’t do well which is throw the ball. I’d like to see a Skins’ defense that brings the same philosophy it had last week against the Giants. Stop the run, press coverage on receivers, and get to Matt Cassel. They sacked Eli 3 times and hit him 8 times. Let’s see if Cassel can handle that. I don’t want to see a shift in gameplan because they feel a “bend don’t break” philosophy is good enough to beat Dallas. I think guys like Dunbar, Blackmon, and Breeland are better going after it than sitting back.

3. …they throw to set up…more throws. I’m over 2nd and 10, 2nd and 11, and 2nd and 12. It’s time the Skins recognize who they are and who they are not. They are not a smash-mouth/slobber-knocker team. At the risk of some not understanding the following comparison, I’m going to make it anyway. The Redskins style of play is 80’s 49ers west-coast more than 80’s Redskins 50-gut. I’m not saying they are any where near as good as Montana’s Niners but I am saying that their style is similar. Running the ball has gotten the Skins into situations that are difficult to get out of. The quick west coast throws can be the replacement for a run game and after you’ve established that, you can take a few deep shots to Jackson. This is who they are. Can they get a lead and come back to Morris for some carries with the lead? Yes, but not too early. Keep the foot on the pedal and get to 27-zip before you start the process of killing the clock. Don’t start that process up 20-nothing like last week. It was too early.
Especially point 3
