Not sure if anyone mentioned Jason Pierre-Paul, but he may not be resigned by the Giants.

Re: Redskins Free Agents List
For me, Cousins has to be resigned and if he'll take a $23M average deal, the cap can take it.
DJax would be nice but he's off to Philly. I'd keep Baker on $8M. He's not only a good player, he's a leader and very emotive player. Just what Gruden likes and the team needs. Garcon is worth keeping if we can get $7.5M average. He's coming off a 1000y season why would you not try to resign him? Davis likewise. Proved he's over his 49ers slump and really seems to like it here. Probably get a cap friendly deal too. Galette could be a bust if he's hurt again or he could be a Tim Hightower revelation. For what he's likely to cost after 2 years out, I'm betting he's a cap friendly bargain. Ihenacho would be good for depth, but not at starter money. We need to draft at least one S as there is pretty much zilch in FA, so he's worth keeping as insurance. Sullivan I'd keep as a solid backup. Rest are either r friendly deals or gone. How's it work with RFA's? Don't we get compensation if they sign elsewhere? |
Re: Redskins Free Agents List
Market or not, would you pay $20 million plus for a game manager if that's what you perceive Kirk Cousins? It's a valid question.

Re: Redskins Free Agents List
Impending free agent LG Ronald Leary said it was "exciting to be able to play ball again" down the stretch this season.
Leary was limited to four starts last season and opened this season on the bench behind La’el Collins, but an injury to Collins allowed him to start 13 games including the Divisional Round loss to the Packers. "Going into the season I didn’t think I was going to be playing at all," Leary said. "So I’m glad I was able to remind people I could play ball." The Cowboys are unlikely to re-sign Leary with Collins waiting in the wings, but he should have no shortage of suitors on the open market. this is one we should at for LG |

He hasn't shown enough imo...When I look at the Oline, we have drafted well and developed at every position. This core area would be a good example of when Free agency can be used to solidify the unit and bring in an established baller to go to the next level, instead of bitching and complaining the entire next season of why Kujo hasn't developed and is a continuous turnstile. We just need one player to form this Oline like Voltron, lets stop fiddling in doubt and just make a strong move. |

I think folks gonna come to a quick realization that decent starters gonna get paid. That's why 8.5-9.5 isn't out of the question for Baker...especially if Garcon starting number is 9 per year.... "But this cap room is why any decision on keeping free-agent receivers Pierre Garcon and DeSean Jackson won’t come down to being unable to afford them. Both will have multiple suitors, so their price tag will start around $9 million per year, with Jackson likely being able to command more." ...damn just saw this article posted in the Cousins thread. my bad |

(You need about $5 for draft picks too) And you have added no one new to the defense. They need to spend wisely on every free-agent and not overpay their own. |

He just wants another chance to prove himself, and I'm all about giving him another chance. He won't command much. With Jackson, sure, I'd love to keep him if we could, but yeah, he's going to get paid and I think the Redskins are still loaded at wide receiver enough to not retain Jackson. Definitely think Garcon needs to be re-sighed. I agree about Davis. Niles Paul has been a no-show this year, and I think Davis redeemed himself. |
Re: Redskins Free Agents List
With the depth we have at WR, we do not need both DJAX and Garcon. One must go so we can address defense, oline, RB and blocking TE
|
Re: Redskins Free Agents List
Let Jackson walk, I think he's intent on signing elsewhere anyway.

Re: Redskins Free Agents List
I am in the boat of signing Cousins to the non-exclusive tag and hoping SF or another team in the top 10 bites. It would be taking a step back this year to be great for the next 3-5 years.
If we can get SF #2 pick I am doing the following... Draft #2 Jonathan Allen DE Alabama Draft #17 Jabrill Peppers S Michigan or RAEKWON MCMILLAN ILB Ohio State If we draft McMillan try to draft Budda Baker FS Washington in the 2nd round. I'd also take Ben Boulware in the 6th, I think he's a baller that will grow into a star. As far as Free Agents by letting Cousins go, we can put that money elsewhere, below are name I'm interested in... Mike Glennon QB or Ryan Mallett QB DeAngelo Williams RB Ted Ginn Jr. WR or Kendall Wright WR or Terrelle Pryor WR Pierre Garcon WR Vernon Davis TE Ronald Leary G Combination of atleast three of the following: *Chris Baker DE* Glenn Dorsey DE/NT Ziggy Hood DE Alan Branch NT William Gholston DE *Johnathan Hankins DT* Junior Galette OLB Lorenzo Alexander OLB Manti Te'o ILB Dont'a Hightower ILB Greg Toler CB Chris Culliver CB- Knee should be healed. doesn't perform cut him Dee Milliner CB- same thing as Culliver DAngelo Hall S |

First of all, how do you know he will be as good as Kirk. Second of all, is he stepping rite in or taking a couple of years to develop like most? I cant wait 4 more years. We got an offense that is ready to win now. Build the D with the free agent/ draft coming up. We can win next year if we do it right. By the time your plan takes flight, (provided we even get the quarterback for it to take flight at all), Garcon, Davis, Trent, and several others will be either gone or in the twilight of their careers. |

I see your point. Imo, Cousins has wilted during the highest pressure games and that scares me. During the first two games of the season he played like he was afraid to make a mistake. In the two biggest games of his career (Panthers and Giants), with the playoffs on the line, he was a detriment to his team with turnovers. He has trouble making zone reads. Add to those facts, the rumors that McVay would radio to Cousins who to throw the ball to presnap... It puts me on the fence about giving him franchise money. Look past the fact he is a nice guy and the DC media loves him. Gruden made Andy Dalton look good. You replace DJax with Pryor opposite Garcon. Resign Vernon Davis, add Leary as the LG and bring in Williams to complement Fat Rob the offense will be okay with a game manager. By trading Cousins or letting some other team take him on defense you add a top 2 talent on the DLine, a Safety to pair with Cravens before you even mention free agents. By saving on Cousins we can use the money to sign Hankins, Lorenzo A., and Hightower in hopefully a Ryan styled defense. I would take my chances with that my friend, regardless of the QB's name for one year. The QB draft class of 2018 is way better than this year. |

Yes, this is the main concern with Kirk. Cousins is almost elite most of the season, but sometimes in big games against good teams -- he chokes. However, it's exceedingly rare to get a Tom Brady or Aaron Rodgers.. Peyton Manning seemed to choke many of the biggest of games throughout his career, but then again he's a first ballot Hall of Famer. We CAN win with KC, just need to build a team around him.. |
Re: Redskins Free Agents List
I dont disagree with the "big game" concerns regarding Cousins but if we had a top 10 defense he would be more than sufficient.

Totally agree, we somehow had a winning record this year with a total garbage defense. We would have been dangerous with just a middle of the pack D. |

Why not? We would have good qb play most of every season, AND GREAT debates here on the warpath every season after the latest playoff killing INT. :food-smil |

Yep. As good as the Cowboys offense looked at times, their D wasn't anything special, and the ball sure seemed to bounce their way an inordinate amount of times (at the right times) all year long. I honestly think the Redskins win the division with that middle of the pack defense - sweeping the Cowboys in the process. |

I hope that is something that these potential candidates for the DC job is considering. The fact that even with the defense being garbage, save for a handful of players, the 'skins still had a winning record and still had an opportunity to make the playoffs. Even the slightest improvement on defense would work wonders for the team. Maybe Gallette re-signs with the team for a ham sandwich and a box of crackers and winds up having a strong year, and maybe Su'a Cravens is full time at safety, and maybe we draft at least one defensive guy who becomes an instant star. Just a little change in the right direction could have this team safely in the playoffs next year. |

Re: Redskins Free Agents List
Evidently, there's already one player the Redskins have their eye on.
Rumor CentralAccording to Mark Eckel of NJ.com, the team plans to pursue interior lineman Bennie Logan if the Philadelphia Eagles allow him to hit free agency. He's on the back end of his rookie deal, which puts the Eagles in a precarious position. Washington hasn't exactly been shy about signing veteran defensive linemen under general manager Scot McCloughan, adding Terrance Knighton, Stephen Paea and Ricky Jean Francois in his first offseason on the job in 2015. Last year, McCloughan added Ziggy Hood in February and Cullen Jenkins in August. If Washington is able to sign Logan, it would weaken a division rival and be a good start toward rebuilding the defense. boom |
