Re: Looking at the draft.
If Barkley has injury concerns or whatever, I think the more likely RB is Derrius Guice from LSU
|
Re: Looking at the draft.
Go big. O-lineman, D-line or pass rush LB.
I hate wasting a top first round pick on RB or WR. We have to finally finish fixing the lines. This has been our Achilles heal for far too long. If we do the play of our backs will greatly improve. We need a mauler at LG and time to get rid of the bloated salary and inconsistent play at LG that we have now. |

I would love if we could get the big DT from Alabama, and line him up in a rotation with J. Allen and Ioannidis. Let's see opposing O-lines push the line of scrimmage against that front! |
Re: Looking at the draft.
Mayfield looked really impressive on that first drive.
|
Re: Looking at the draft.
Barkley will not be available at our pick. No way 12/13 teams pass on him.
I want Baker Mayfield. But if I'm the Giants or Jets I'm taking him. He can handle that media attention. 30ish million of free agency money and Mayfield sounds nice. |
Re: Looking at the draft.
IMO, a focus finally on improving the running game this offseason is a no brainer. A new left guard, a new running back, maybe add a fullback, and I’m on the “cut VD and bring in a new TE who can block” train as well.
Look around the league and check the stats....Case Kenum doesn’t have the year unless Murray and mckennon aren’t running out of their mind. Without Todd Gurley, Rams are a 500 team period. Of course everyone talks Brady is MVP...but Pats are a run first team. The saints resurgence all based on their running game. The fuck faces philly eagles lead the league in rushing yards. The false narrative has been the league has changed to a passing league over the last decade. False
The real issue at TE, is Reed is really our best receiver and VD is our fastest. VD is the only guy on the roster who has stretch the field capability. I agree while heartedly though, Jay has a stubbornness to calling plays relying on TE in the run game and a true blocking TE who can catch a pass or two would have a huge impact. Probably more of an impact than LG. Spencer long is probably the starting LG next year anyway. |
Re: Looking at the draft.
Rb Nick Chubb impressive

Terrible blocker. |

Let him walk. Especially if Ryan Jenson becomes a free agent from Baltimore. |
Re: Looking at the draft.
If Cousins leaves, QB would be our 1st need. If Cousins stays, I go pass rusher or ILB to complement Brown, a stud DL would also work.
|
Re: Looking at the draft.
I'm taking Guice or Barkley in the first. I'd also consider Derwin James.

Derwin James would be extremely tough to pass on.... |

Coming off knee surgery this year he should be really cheap. I predict he is on the roster and probably a starter. He will be too cheap to pass up basically and is far from a standout but is a smart consistent player. |

Our Safeties were pretty good this yr, even Everett was solid, I'd take James but not before Barkley, he's a difference maker at a pos we really need one to be. |

I'm not impressed with this year's QB draft class, so I'd prefer to go with a FA QB or trade for one if Cousins leaves. I think we should probably draft a QB in one of the later rounds. |
Re: Looking at the draft.
Really good crop of RB coming out this year. Lotta potential ballers in the first several rounds. Id really like to see us use a first or second on one.
|
Re: Looking at the draft.
Is it just me or is this draft very top-heavy? I admit that didn't watch much college football this past season. It just seems that this might be one of those drafts where trading up in the early rounds might be the thing to do if there is a player the Skins really like on the board.

Re: Looking at the draft.
Baker Mayfield.
Perfect fit for Jay's offense. Start Colt until Colt plays himself back to the bench then put in the kid. |
Baker Mayfield.

IMO, Cousins seems to fit Jay, and Bakers game reminds me of Cousins. Cousins doesn't get the credit he deserves of being tough and being an athlete...both Baker traits. Cousins is an above average runner with the ball as well. I actually see a lot of Baker in Cousins game. With Baker what it will come down too is accuracy and handling pressure. When Georgia turned the pressure up on Baker in the second half...it affected him. Baker faced cupped cake defenses in big 12. I think Cousins does well with pressure in his face...again above average talent with handling that aspect of the game. Baker is accurate, so is Cousins. Cousins is good when it comes to accuracy. Will Baker be with windows in the NFL vs windows in a poor defense big 12? So, if Cousins is a proven Baker, why take the risk? Just pay the dude. |
Baker Mayfield.

Grudens system requires a disciplined QB that reads progressions and i credit a lot of Mayfields success to his supporting cast members. Mayfield does have the ability to work off script, but he has a weak arm and his long ball is suspect. Lets also talk about his antics and who knows how much willingness he has to be tamed, disciplined and developed into a pro ready QB? i think Allen- would be the perfect QB for gruden to teach and mold. not saying he will be there at 13...but i think he would be perfect |
Re: Looking at the draft.
Mayfield is not going to be at 13.
|
Re: Looking at the draft.
How do you see the fit?
Baker is your classic West Coast Offense QB. Quick release. Athleticism. Quick decision maker. Accurate. Not the biggest arm...but enough. Although OU's system doesn't have a lot on NFL concepts Baker is uber productive and efficient within the offense. He executes the gameplan the coach calls at a high level.
The fit for/with Jay is because Baker plays with confidence, moxie and makes plays. Baker's playmaking is an aspect the offense has been missing.
So, if Cousins is a proven Baker, why take the risk? Just pay the dude.
I don't view them as similar. And I think Cousins will be gone. |

Mayfield does have the ability to work off script, but he has a weak arm and his long ball is suspect.
If you have a bias against spread QB prospects then your gonna have issues with Baker. I have no issues with spread QBs. Too many have been successful that it doesn't matter to me. No doubt that Allen plays in a more 'pro-style' offense and will be more 'pro-ready'. But, from the cut-ups I've watched of Allen he's been scattershot and inconsistent with his accuracy. I think he should be more productive and efficient being the big man in his little conference. From a production standpoint he doesn't even match up to Brett Smith. And Allen plays with quite a bit of adlib himself...its actually one of the positives I like about Allen's game. He can move, and has a freakin hand cannon. But, he's raw. When I look at the college prospects I chart games. The surrounding talent or lack of talent doesn't really impact my grading. If you're doing some statistical regression/projection then his cast will matter. But, I'm not. And the supporting cast argument is another imho generic knock that gets tossed around that doesn't hold much weight. If you're the QB for a good program you're gonna play with talent. And not all QBs on good teams are even pro prospects. I think I even recall hearing the supporting cast knock against Watson. Weak arm? Definitely disagree there. Suspect long ball? Again completely disagree. Actually iirc he's near the top of PFF's charting when it comes to deep ball accuracy. Also I think Baker will be around towards the bottom of the 1st maybe even top of the 2nd. Being short and playing in the spread should be enough to keep him in that range.
Lets also talk about his antics and who knows how much willingness he has to be tamed, disciplined and developed into a pro ready QB?
I have no clue. I don't even get into off the field stuff when I look at draft prospects. There is no way for me to have any clue. Guy could be a complete turd or he could just be a fun loving college kid. I went to College Park, i'm not judging anybody. I know a successful upstanding citizen that once kick in the window of car because it had a Duke sticker on it but he was 20 y/o then. Any of these prospects could be a turd/or not. I don't know. |
Re: Looking at the draft.
Give me Roquan Smith. Him and Zach Brown flying around sounds amazballs.
|
Re: Looking at the draft.
Really interested to see if the Georgia RBs can have success against the Bama defense. Both these guys are 1-2nd round guys. I like Chubb.
That Alabama DT Da'ron Payne showed his ass against Clemson with some big plays. Eager to see how he plays tonight. ^SDskins, I think Roquan Smith is a lil over rated. I also think that DT from Washington that everyone loves is as well. |

yes we need one |
Re: Looking at the draft.
stay away from mayfield not that good,, love the guard nelson from ND safety james from fsu, vita vea from washington, payne bama, giuce from lsu ,love chubb or michel from georgia Or lb smith from ga,obviously barkley but don,t think he will be there
|
Re: Looking at the draft.
we haven't had a true factor back since CP
|
Re: Looking at the draft.
James Washington WR OSU would be a nice addition too but I'd rather have a RB
|
Re: Looking at the draft.
I think there are enough good backs this year to wait till 2nd or 3rd round. Give me Penny from SDSU. Dude is a stud and is barely talked about.
|
Re: Looking at the draft.
Quenton Nelson or Roquan Smith in the 1st and best available RB in the 2nd would be my idea of a beautiful start to the draft.

Perine is a solid bruiser that is a good number 2, we just need that factor back at 1, and we also have CT still as well so we are not that bad off

Perine played like a rookie but I thought he picked up his game as the season went on. His overall play makes a statement that he is in the conversation for a spot on the roster...but that's it imo. Chico's RB Statuses: Fat Rob is too slow, Keith Marshall peace out. CT you're awesome, get well. Perine keep working. Other fill ins down the stretch: thanks for contributing, but please leave. |
