Very weird. |
Re: ALEX SMITH and moving forward.
Bruce is the point person for making deals happen, I'm not sure why that's strange at all. Doesn't mean Doug or Gruden wasn't involved, as the article says:
The Redskins internally had discussed the possibility of acquiring Smith, the first overall pick in the 2005 draft, as early as wild-card weekend in early January, with the personnel department making a list of all of the free agent quarterbacks and trade possibilities during postseason meetings. They rated Case Keenum, Teddy Bridgewater, Sam Bradford, Chad Henne, Josh McCown and others. “But Alex was our main focus, so nobody else mattered,” Williams said. And with Smith having only one year remaining on his Kansas City deal, and 2017 first-round pick Patrick Mahomes II poised to be the future of the Chiefs, Washington knew “there was a possibility they could move on” from Smith, Gruden said.
This is the way I've heard it described too, a list was put together by the personnel dept, Alex was at the top of the list, and Allen made it happen. |

But maybe they had had conversations earlier clarifying that. Regardless, yes it sounds like the whole team staff bought in, and was kept at football level decision making so I like all that. |
Re: ALEX SMITH and moving forward.
Just think about this, since Allen has been here, he's given away a total of 6 draft picks trying to get a QB. These are picks that don't actually include the drafted player. IDK of anyone in the NFL that would be able to get away with that. Let's hope the last one is the one that leads us to a SB.
3 RG3 2 McNabb 1 Smith |
Re: ALEX SMITH and moving forward.
Well the Jets took a qb in the second last year, and without him playing a regular season down traded 4 high quality picks to move up this year.
Cleveland, well it's cleveland Minnesota traded how much to Philly for Bradford? Other than lightning in a bottle, or sucking for Luck type seasons, attempts to get quality qb's cost draft and cap capital. Nearly every team with a bottom tier qb has made similar jumps to get "the guy" |
Re: ALEX SMITH and moving forward.
per PFF, Smith ranked 1st in big time throws, meaning throws that could be risky or that result in a TO.

So he and Brady not only have a lot of big time throws, but are also not risky with their throws.
Notice, BTW, which quadrant that the Redskins logo is in. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk |

Re: ALEX SMITH and moving forward.
I agree with Jay, Alex is a winner and he will bring that to this team. 24 Tds 7 Ints probably but 9-10 wins book it. I'll take that over 28 Tds 12Ints and 4500 yards passing with a 7-9 record all day

Even though I felt Reid royally screwed us when the 'skins got McFlabb, I believe he's being sincere with his praise of Alex Smith. |

That was back when he knew we were crazy and he could take advantage of us, now he is in KC so I agree, I believe this will be nothing like Mcnabb |

He also was a division rival. No way he sends Smith to Denver in an equivalent move. |

I believe the Alex Smith Wash is getting now is better than the Donovan McNabb they got in 2010. That being said Smith is at best a lateral movement from Cousins. Hopefully the offense won't regress? |

Get a solid LG and stud RB, and it will be better. |

The Stone Roses. Saw them at Heaton Park in 2012. Amazing gig.

I just wanted to throw this out there: assuming Kirk would have signed the contract he got in Minnesota here had the Skins made the exact same offer (which I don't think is true, but for the sake of argument), the Skins saved, on their cap space: 6,6M in 2018, 8,6M in 2019 and 9,6M in 2020 ! I could see if AS got hurt week 1 but he has Smith having a good yr lol so it makes 0 sense |
Re: ALEX SMITH and moving forward.
If you want to say that Smith's numbers might not match his best season on record, and thus he has less success, ok. I don't think that's right but sure he might throw an extra pick or two (or 5 ?) and throw for 20yards per game.
The first pick in the draft line though is pretty whacko. (Although I am sure some people on here will say we will only win 4 games this year). |
Re: ALEX SMITH and moving forward.
Even with being completely decimated by injuries we were 7-9, so thinking we’ll fall off the cliff and get the #1 pick is odd thinking on his part. Wish he elaborated on that.
