I couldn't see it happening this year because he's still owed 2 years of salary left, but next year? Sure. Smith + 2nd or possibly a 3rd for a 7th rounder (or a camp body) to a team with 60+ mil in unused cap space? I didn't think anybody would take on that Osweiler contract either, and look how that turned out. But this year is a definite no, nobody would want to take on 2 years of salary for anything lower than a first rounder.
http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000001020137/article/nfl-salary-cap-for-2019-season-set-at-1882m

Indy and the Jets could totally eat it in one year with the Jets being closer to full rebuild mode. I think the Cleveland model has turned some heads. Time will tell if it pays off.

Again, I don't think it's likely by a long shot and I would rather have the picks because I think we are building also.

And you're right, nobody saw the Osweiler trade coming.

The director of pants and picnics, aka the Prince of Darkness, keeps saying we're oh so close to contending.

Trading picks and Alex for cap space is a short term move entirely consistent with what our egotistical GM has been saying publicly for over a year.

It's not about teams willing to eat it, it's how much we're willing to pay them to eat it. Right now the cost is too high. It's double what Houston paid Cleveland to eat Osweiler's deal.

Pete Prisco says he's been told "Arizona is not taking Murray #1"

This could all be a smokescreen but many believe Oakland is trading up for that pick.

How can you trade Alex Smith to dump salary if he can't pass a physical? Wouldn't the league reject that?

I wouldn't hate that pick but I'd rather go Edge or WR at 15
Isn't anyone here concerned about Rosen's personality which I find to be obnoxious. It makes me wonder how coachable he would be as our QB. I feel comfortable that AZ will draft Murray but I'm far from comfortable with the idea of trading for Rosen.

OTOH, I really like Haskins and Drew Lock, one or both of whom might be had at #15. All three of these players will need to be developed. I wonder if some of us here are allowing ourselves to hope there is an instant answer to our QB dilemma when there isn't one.
I for one think the Redskins should say the hell with Rosen and keep our draft picks....seeing as though they don't have any QBs in their 20s on the roster except for that AAF bum they signed just days ago they should draft 2 QBs( one in the early rounds and another late in the draft.

If they are really high on a certain QB and he is available at 15, or they are able to trade down a few picks and get him, I'd be ok with that. Neither Smith, McCoy or Keenum are the long term answer at that position, and they absolutely need one.

If not, give me a solid edge rusher to solidify that D-line for the next several years. Ferrell, Burns, or Sweat - in that order.

McCoy is too inconsistent and Keenum will only be effective with above average WR talent.....I'm not a fan of taking a QB in the first round.....a QB can be taken in the 2nd or 3rd round.

With the current state of the Redskin offense, Aaron Rodgers or Drew Brees would look average behind center.

I don't think that's necessarily true. Redskins have one of best Oline (when healthy), Brees and Rodgers can do a lot of damages when they have time to throw regardless who receivers are.

Which is why I say if they are really high on a QB, and that guy is available at 15, or they can trade back a couple picks and get him, I'm good with that. Thing is, there are no sure things with any of these QBs as is the case pretty much every year, but if their guy is there, they should grab him. I won't hate them for that. If he doesn't work out long term, that sucks, but that's just part of the gamble with drafting QBs early.

Re: With the 15th Pick, the Redskins select...

I hope I'm wrong, but I wouldn't be surprised if we trade up. I just cringe when I hear that we have talked to the jets. We need to trade back and get more picks not trade up and give them up. I think we should either give a 2 for Rosen (if available) and trade down in the first to pick up a 2.

Re: With the 15th Pick, the Redskins select...

I'm more and more wanting for them to go BPA with either an elite Edge Rusher, Inside Linebacker or TJ Hockenson.

The only QB I'd like to get in this draft is either Rosen for a 2nd/other picks OR a mid-rounder QB.

If everything goes to shit next year, I'd prefer to have the new coaching staff to pick a first round QB.

Irrefutable 04-23-2019 11:16 PM

Re: With the 15th Pick, the Redskins select...

Hockenson or trade down and add a second round pick. Then they have one first two 2nds and 2 3rds. Then BPA at WR, OL, TE, Edge, and QB

Finish with CB, FS, OL, WR, and LB

Re: With the 15th Pick, the Redskins select...

Here's my logic...the Redskins have gone defense in the first round the last 2 drafts....the last time they went offense in round one was 2016....I really do believe they need to go offense this time.....the huge loss of Jamison Crowder and the undeveloped bust Josh Doctson suggest that the Redskins take a WR in the 1st round in 2019....whether it's Marquise Brown or N'Keal Harry the Redskins desperately need a playmaker at that position.....15 would be right for Brown...only if Brown is taken should the Redskins trade back 3 slots, pick up a 3rd or 4th round pick, and take N'Keal.

https://youtu.be/u8b1MfoZZyY
Potentially is the key word. They were not on the road to a 7-9 season last year, sitting at 6-3 more than halfway through the season, but then the wheels fell off with all the injuries, especially at QB. This season it really all hinges on the answer at QB and how effective that individual will be. The rest of the roster is basically a wash as far as whether it's better or worse...may be a drop off with rushing the passer, but that can likely be fixed with pick 15. If they get solid QB play and don't turn the ball over a ton, I can see 9-7 or better.
