What do you guys think of Trey Lance from ND State?

He's good, isn't as accurate as Z Wilson but Lance can make plays with his feet similar to a Russell Wilson.

We should draft him.

Fields will be gone unless we draft #2

Time to start looking at Wilson and Lance

Yeah I expect WFT to not be in the position to get top 2 QBs unless we trade up so we gotta look at other QB options in the draft.

Re: What do you want to see in our next QB?

I get the case of Murray and Burrow, but why be set on needing a high pick for a great QB? Tua, Allen, Herbert and of course Mahomes all went at #5 or lower recently. Its all about the talent identification and scouting, if we have a good handle on that we could get a starter, if not franchise QB, anywhere in the top 10. And we're pretty much nailed on to have a top 10 pick barring a miracle.

How about one that can actually play the position.

Until I hear more/better sources I'm taking this tweet with a grain of salt, but it's worth sharing.

Get him back on the field. I know what Alex Smith is.....Haskins needs to play

Short and mobile or 6'6" with a cannon.

I don't care as long as Kyle Smith, instead of Dan, is the person making the decision.

Play Haskins - if he does well and we want to move on it will increase his trade value. Smith is not the future and no way are we taking the division,,,

I think I like Z Wilson better than Trey Lance but am good with either one. What do you think of Trask from FL?

He's really coming up as well, I'd say he could be a late 1

I'm kinda in agreement here, what are the chances of 2 NDSU QB's making it big in the NFL? I just don't see it. I'd go Z Wilson

For me, it's the limited experience. He's really only played one full season (19 games). Sound familiar? DH played in 22...

I mean he put up good numbers, but I'd much rather take a chance on someone with a larger sample size.

Re: What do you want to see in our next QB?

We need a QB who is an efficient passer, can make long passes. But the most important quality the QB needs is to be a RUN THREAT and can EXTEND THE PASS plays with their FEET. The era of the pocket passer is over. The best QBs in the NFL all can run, can extend the plays and are great passers. That’s what we need.

No retreads or old QB next year. Draft the best QB available and then pick OL, WR and TE to help the offense.

I agree. Bring Haskins in to finish out the season. There are three possible outcomes:

1. He surprises everyone, lights his hair on fire and PLAYS GREAT - proving that he can be our future franchise QB.

2. He plays both good and bad, which means he will be traded in the off-season, but for MORE WE than we will get NOW.

3. He sucks and we get about what we will get right now for a trade - a fifth round draft pick or worse.

Playing Alex Smith MIGHT win us an extra game or two, but he is not our future and I doubt he will even stay here next year as a backup QB, making QB #2 salary. Smith may help us develop Cam or Steve Smith further but he is not good enough to win this division. Play Haskins to make him worth more with a trade in the off-season.

Re: What do you want to see in our next QB?

A Smith is the starting QB until the team is mathematically eliminated from the playoffs. Then and only then will we see another QB under center, and even then, that is a maybe. The only thing that changes this is if A Smith gets hurt.

Exactly, and that's how it should be.

Re: What do you want to see in our next QB?

I agree with Warthog in principle but I also see the argument to playing Smith (better chance at winning games right now) until we're eliminated at least. While I don't hold out much hope of winning the division, the only way we make the playoffs, it is a possibility and you don't just turn your back on that possibility until it cases to exist.

I can see him being a riser as we get closer to the draft.

Not sure where we’ll be picking yet, but I think he’ll be taken fairly early.

I agree. Alex Smith may play a couple more games until we are eliminated. Also he pushes players like Cam and Steve Smith to see if they can be part of the revamped Offense of 2021.

Another issue may be that Rivera/Smith/Turner see something BAD about Dwayne that just eliminates him from the QB competition. Something not noticeable to us fans. Something in practice, preparation, etc. It wouldn’t surprise me if Alex finishes out the season.

Just read this summary in a mock draft that had us taking Lance.

With rumors of Dwayne Haskins’ time being up, the football team in Washington could be on the lookout for another QB in this year’s draft. Lance is essentially a higher-upside version of what Jordan Love was in 2020. As a redshirt freshman, Lance connected on 67-percent of his passes. He threw 28 touchdowns to zero interceptions. He also rushed for 1,100 yards and 14 touchdowns. Due to the FCS season being cancelled, Lance was able to showcase his skillset in just one game this season – a 39-28 win for NDSU in which Lance threw for 149 yards on 30 pass attempts (two touchdowns and one interception). The lackluster performance is unlikely to keep Lance out of the first round.

I like Wilson or Trask or Jones..... One thing I noticed historically QB Heisman trophy winners don't fair well in the NFL. googled Ohio State QB's in Nfl and they haven't been that good either. I want someone who has at least 2 years as a starter (preferably 3 or 4)
