Re: Election Day Thread - Nov. 3, 2020
Aiight let me go 1 by 1:

I don't disagree with requiring an ID, and I wonder why they feel the need to include it as an example when the GOP gives me so many obvious blatant examples of voter suppression to pick one. Like in Texas - 1 ballot box per county is an obvious attempt at suppression. In

Pennsylvania, suing to keep ballots postmarked before election day from being counted after election day is voter suppression.

The voter purging - I wouldn't have a problem with it either if they were only purging voters who hadn't voted within a reasonable timeframe, but I haven't seen anything that indicates that's the case. I have seen enough articles pointing out purges targeting Dems though.

Mail-in voting: I have yet to see anybody from the fed other than our dear sweet innocent President claim mail-in voting (that he has also used for years before becoming President) is subject to widespread fraud. And the idea that you can walk up to someone's mailbox and steal their mail doesn't scare me, because if you've ever read anything on the USPS postal inspector police you'd know they are regarded as one of the top law enforcement agencies in the nation, because mail fraud is a federal crime. And the idea that widespread ballot fraud could happen (with no supporting evidence) seems ludicrous. 9 ballots in PA go missing and it immediately became a national story, with the FBI and USPS police investigating. Imagine what would happen if 5k mailed in ballots went missing.

Glad we can both agree on gerrymandering, it is absolutely dogshit and I wish we had a nonpartisan federal commission that would oversee it since the SCOTUS punted on the issue.

Also totally agree on voting - if this country is as free as we all think it is, the idea that we have to wait hours in line on a Tuesday to vote is stupid. Expand the avenues and early voting, use national registries like the USPS address changing system to avoid unnecessary purging, we should be doing everything we can to get more people to vote, not less.
1. 1 per county is stupid

2. If it's dropped off by the 3rd it should count

3. The purging thing, I need to read more about.

4. Not saying you're wrong in regards to mail in voting. But I still need more personally to be that confident in the process

If you guys knew me in real life, you would know I would never support cheating to win anything. I'd rather Bernie be president the rest of my life than cheat to win any competition, let alone an election. So we might not agree on all the details. But secure, easy, and available voting needs to be available to as many Americans as possible. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

yes because trump and his twitter have been "business as usual" in american politics. there is nothing normal about trump or his presidency.

if Biden passes a tax code that punishes red states, go for it.

if Biden starts attacking red states and threatening to withhold emergency funds when a natural disaster hits Oklahoma or Louisiana or Texas .. go for it.

if Biden packs the SCOTUS, go for it.

We have never seen anything like Trump .. so please drop the facade that we Dems are the looney ones who are acting unreasonable. If someone like AOC or Don Lemon ever gets the presidency, by all means give them hell but 90% of trumps criticisms/flaws have been self inflicted.

there is nothing normal about your boy trumps presidency and much of the criticism is reasonable and justified.

but keep parroting this same tired theme in every post .. that the Dems have been unfairly critical of Trump and trump doesnt deserve any of it.

(heres where you say you didnt vote for trump and youre a libertarian now and only worry about the debt and taxation ...)

-have you seen the debt?
-did trump tax cuts for the rich and corporations lead to 4% gdp so it would pay for itself?
-have you calculated how much bail out we have given to huge corporation farms to offset our tarrif war with china?

Im guessing "no" for all of the above ..

Re: Election Day Thread - Nov. 3, 2020

No worries SS.

In regards to switching parties. This was a long time coming. I was hoping with Trump and a Republican Senate that there might be some actual progress on lowering government spending and having a balanced budget. I don't recall it ever being a discussion even pre-dating COVID. In hindsight I should've known better. I don't think either of the 2 parties give a shit about the yearly deficits/debt.

So I didn't register as a libertarian because of Trump, but his administration was the final straw. The Republican party has not represented me for a long time. The Democrats don't either. Libertarian or independent were really my only 2 choices.

In regards to China, man, there are no good answers. No real way to compete against mass production of goods made by practical slave labor. I would really need to read more about the positive and negative effects of the tariffs. But the status quo wasn't working either. I don't know what the answers are. But all of D.C. needs to figure out a way to give American manufacturing the best chance of success. I also think it will take a massive shift in citizens being proud to buy American and looking to buy American, even if it means paying more for goods. Problem with that too though, is there are millions of Americans that can't pay more and are barely getting by. Tough sledding to find solutions in a global economy.

Senate races are going to be equally as impactful and watched.

If one party can control both, buckle up. If its split, then good old gridlock comes in like we saw during Obamas presidency (which honestly may be the best thing for this country to calm down a bit vs either party having complete power like we saw the past 4 years).

-------------------------------------------

HOUSTON (AP) — A federal judge on Monday rejected another last-ditch Republican effort to invalidate nearly 127,000 votes in Houston because the ballots were cast at drive-thru polling centers established during the pandemic.

The lawsuit was brought by conservative Texas activists who have railed against expanded voting access in Harris County, where a record 1.4 million early votes have already been cast. The county is the nation’s third largest and a crucial battleground in Texas, where President Donald Trump and Republicans are bracing for the closest election in decades on Tuesday.

https://www.yahoo.com/news/judge-rejects-gop-effort-throw-203516056.html
^^ this always seemed to be a long shot to not have the votes counted

The anticipated challenge to federal Court in PA re counting votes mailed on or before Nov 3 but received after Nov 3 is going to be very contentious if the election is close.

I don't think it's even a possibility for Republicans. But this time around, I'd prefer that whoever wins, controls the House and Senate too. Even moreso if Biden wins. I want Democrats to have the 4 years to do whatever they want and see how it works out. Then in 2024 we could have a normal election between a non-Trump Republican candidate vs. Kamala Harris/Her Running Mate. No way Biden runs for a 2nd term.

More than 96 million Americans have voted nationwide with one day left until Election Day, according to a survey of election officials by CNN, Edison Research and Catalist.
These votes represent more than 45% of registered voters nationwide. Eighteen states and Washington, DC, have seen more than half of their registered voters cast ballots already.

Nationwide, the more than 96 million ballots already cast represents 70% of the more than 136.5 million ballots cast in the 2016 presidential election.
https://www.cnn.com/2020/11/02/politics/early-voting-monday-95-million/index.html

Half the registered votes already voted.

I dropped off my ballot this morning at Long Reach HS in Columbia MD and there was no line. Everything was quiet and normal. I do wish I had just voted in person since I decided to wait until today to actually put my mail-in ballot in a drop box and I was right there with no line to wait (8 am).

My driver license is expired (thanks covid) so that really was the deciding factor for me.

However, after the American Revolution, the boozy fruit-and-spice cake became better known as Election Cakes, after women would bring the baked goods to polling places for the white men, who were allowed to vote at the time, to eat.

The first recorded recipe for the patriotic confection was written in 1796 by Amelia Simmons in her second edition book, "American Cookery," according to Bon Appetit. The recipe required 30 quarts of flour, 10 pounds of butter, 14 pounds of sugar and three dozen eggs, among spices, alcohol and 12 pounds of raisins. Several different recipes for Election Cake have since been logged, calling for different ingredients, though all seemingly have the same yeast base.

Ohio’s most populous county, Franklin, switched to paper poll books after experiencing technical difficulties on Election Day, Secretary of State Frank LaRose said Tuesday.

Officials warned residents to brace for long lines and wait times early on election morning when polling workers began using the old-fashioned method to check in voters after learning that their electronic check-in system was not fully updated with new data.

"It's important to note that this does NOT impact voting machines in any way, and only modifies how voters are checked in," a spokesperson for La Rose said on Twitter.

The Secretary of State indicated that Franklin County Board of Elections was not able to upload all early in-person voting data into its electronic check-in system by election morning, but said poll workers are trained to use paper poll books to serve as a backup at every polling site.
https://www.foxnews.com/politics/ohio-franklin-county-backup-paper-system-voter-check-in-issues

Putting my democrat tin foil hat on ... why the fuck werent they able to upload all the data prior to Election Day? this wasnt some unforeseen technical glitch. this was people just not getting the work done on time by the deadline.

result = longer wait lines for the most populous democrat county in battleground state Ohio. In 2016, Hillary won nearly 60% of the county votes vs 34% for trump.

I'm gonna get some hate for this but I honestly can't figure out how 60 million Americans can be duped by this grifter. Like you haven't figured out his pattern by now. You're only useful to him as long as he can use you for something. As soon as you start to question him or disagree with him you're cast out.

He panders to you because you have the ability to keep him in office, where in turn he can use all power of the fed gov't to further help himself and his friends. If he loses that power, he will go right back to where he was beforehand, a sheisty businessman fighting his umpteenth bankruptcy.

When Obama first ran for president I was struck by his positive energy, his intelligence, they way he spoke about hope and change. I never voted before Obama. I remember he did a speech in Baltimore and downtown was shut down. The crowds were huge. I remember we were literally running for a with few hundred other people to be the last to get into this section to see his speech and they literally had to close the gates right in front of us. We watched on TVs they set it in the inner harbor. I felt like a teenage girl running to see the Beatles for the first time. The energy and feeing was amazing. Hugging strangers. To see the faces of old black women and men seeing a black man being elected as president was so amazing. I felt like I was experiencing America back when JFK was elected.

Trump seems to be that for 60 million plus of my fellow Americans. Why can’t they have their Obama? Why aren’t they allowed to feel the energy of a president like I did with Obama?

I just can’t get past the fact that one man worked his way through life with nothing. Another was born to a rich millionaire. One man made it to the Ivy League on his brains and intelligence. The other was a paid for admission. One man was married to one woman, the other had multiple wives, had sex with a porn star while his wife was just gave birth and is currently in a contractual marriage to a woman who hates Christmas.

^ but these are the same elitist thoughts that partly gave birth to trump. Trump is a product of social media and hate. He is literally a reality tv show star.

To go from Obama to Donald Trump is so sad to me. But I can’t discount a vote for trump. We are all allowed a vote and a say. It is what it is. I can’t say I know better or I’m smarter than them. Even though college educated greatly lean left and non college greatly lean right.

But I imagine what you want to hear is “no alll trumps aren’t confederate flag waving rednecks and he got voters from all spectrums”

I’m going by Fox News counts.

Biden at 238
Trump at 213

If Biden wins Nevada (6), Wisconsin (10), Michigan (16) that puts him at exactly 270.

Trump wins Pennsylvania (20), n Carolina (15), Georgia (16), Alaska (3) gets him to 267.

I’ve been up since 4:30, can someone check my math?
