As he should.
Let's hope for a run heavy game plan that takes Miles Garrett into account on passing downs. He's by far their best player, and you cannot allow their best player to beat you (as we've seen the previous two weeks). An early lead would be great. Hopefully Gibson's foot is ok; it looks like he's questionable at the moment. No reason why we shouldn't win this game.
Agree, but if Wentz isn't getting it done the 1st half I would not be surprised to see Heinicke back in the game |
Re: Dawg pound Pre Game thread
On paper this is a perfect scenario for CW to come back and play really well.

Yeah he’s been set up with BRob and Chase back. Logan Thomas healthier. Dotson more experienced and a defense that has greatly improved since he started last. And a better understanding of the offense. He needs to take advantage of it and for god sakes earn that paycheck |
Re: Dawg pound Pre Game thread
Of course if Wentz wins these next two games then Ron is going to keep him next year, even if he loses in the wildcard round. Makes the offseason complex, but I would rather win now and deal with that later

I think we've seen the last of Heinicke unless Wentz gets injured. |
Re: Dawg pound Pre Game thread
If Wentz can stick to the quick passes and jives with the wide receivers quickly we might stand a chance. This o-line is not good enough to let longer plays develop.

That D Line is going to fucking eat. Garrett and Clowney may honest to God have 4 sacks each.
One of my best friends is a die hard browns fan.. always makes for a fun day when we play. I've rooted for Cleveland forever, been to games love the fans and the city but come Sunday all that means nothing. If we didn't get saddled with new years day we'd be driving down to the game but nonetheless, TV will have to suffice.
I've watched all their games. Great defense and killer run game. Watson has stunk, badly, but we will have to control the clock and move the chains in order to win this one. Low scoring, 23-13 dub.
Thats what scares me. Apparently they are 4th in fewest QB points allowed in fantasy Ive seen maybe a quarter of Browns football. Im worried. ---------- https://www.si.com/nfl/browns/browns-maven-features/browns-defense-under-joe-woods-more-adaptable Really good in depth article of what Browns D Coord has done past few games to adjust. Written on Dec 6 so doesnt take into account past few games but past few games the D has been good Browns D is no joke but apparently their DTs suck. If they blitz/stunt/bring pressure = they dont respect us |
Re: Dawg pound Pre Game thread
Browns DVOA defensive ranking is 24th overall, for comparison we're 11th.

idk man .. im worried, they might be figuring their D out. They allowed 30 or more pts in 5 of their first 11 games. Since then ... Won 3 of past 5 games, D points given up (and some of these might be off O turnovers returns for TD, idk) 17 3 23 (vs bengals) 14 17 -- We dont pass pro well We dont pass pro well against pressure or elite edge rushers Wentz doesnt avoid sacks and isnt a great "quick pass" QB If both teams get like 7 possessions total ... it may come down to a last min drive by either team in a low scoring game |

Wildgoose is a fucking bum. Ron ignoring the CB much like the LB position has hurt us. |

Concern with playing SF was legit (#1 DVOA defense), the Browns though? Eh |

Let's keep him on the bench in a 'break glass in case of emergency' scenario. Wildgoose was terrible, and we'll likely get similar results from this guy. He was projected to be an average backup CB and a special teamer. No reason for him to see any meaningful time at CB anytime soon. |
Re: Dawg pound Pre Game thread
A loss to Cleveland this week would erase any enjoyable parts of this season from my memory. This has to be a W.

Dawg pound Pre Game thread
Dream scenario…
Somehow Howell is forced into action, and we make the playoffs. Howell looks awesome and we win at least one. We sign a cheap backup and Howell is the guy. We draft well and pick up a key FA or two. Revamp and solidify the oline. MLB , CB, S all addressed. Wentz and Taylor leave town. The end. |
Re: Dawg pound Pre Game thread
Howell, SMH
As usual the unknown is the most popular guy in town. I'm going to keep my expectations at rock bottom for him. Because chances are he's the next Joe Schmoe rather than the next Joe Montana. |

We know what we have in Wentz and TH. It is silly not to hope he pans out. Anyway it is a dream scenario. I have no idea if Howell is going to be good or not, but the jury is pretty much out on the other two. |

Howell probably won’t ever be an elite QB.. he was a 6th round pick but that doesn’t always mean he can’t be a good starter. I’d like to see what he has but the coaches that see him every day know the truth

Yup. I agree. I am extremely doubtful that Howell wouldn’t be able to avoid pressure better than Wentz, or throw further than Heineke. I think any quarterback in the league could do those two things. Once again with our weapons, run game, and D a “capable “ quarterback would do wonders. Someone in between Joe Schmoe and Joe Montana. Lol Our o line sucks but that is why we need someone who can evade the rush and Howell can. At least better than Wentz. |

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Howell was every bit as good if not better than Pickett was, yet Pickett went in the 1st round. Where you are drafted really doesn't mean much cause teams totally miss on players all the time. Howell just needs to play. Sitting for a year really doesn't do him any good. Had he got his chance he would have made a lot plays, but he would also have some turnovers- pretty much what we are getting from the two guys in front of him. |

I doubt Howell is the exception to that. To me this speaks that Pickett is most likely not a viable starter either |
