I think it'll be aa little better but not good enough to win 9 games
They were good enough to win 7 last year and if the QB play was even 15% better they would have won 9 because they would have won both Giants games. |
Re: Draft grades
My prediction:
Forbes plays way better than the media thinks and ends up with 4 ints, will there be growing pains sure, but he will show excellent promise Martin ends up being the flex by seasons end, has 2.5 sacks by the end of the season Stromberg ends up winning the starting job relatively early Henry fits into the DE rotation Rodriguez takes the backup spot from Gibson who becomes the 3rd down RB and return guy and lines up on the outside more. Also random but McLaurin eclipses 1400 yards and get 10 plus TDs for the first time in his career. |

"....Washington Best pick: Emmanuel Forbes Worst pick: Overall reaches Grade: C+ In terms of the players the Commanders drafted, they were able to check a lot of boxes in the needs column. Both the secondary and the offensive line needed reinforcements and both areas got multiple players over the draft weekend. The issue is that the Commanders ended up taking every player in the first four rounds ahead of consensus, sometimes drastically so. Trading down isn’t as simple as it sounds sometimes, as it takes someone who wants to trade up, but it’s hard to believe Washington didn’t have any opportunities to move back and acquire more picks. That said, Forbes and Martin both had some big fans in other NFL buildings, and Washington is adding two athletic defenders with a knack for big plays to a secondary that was one of the better ones in football last year. Forbes in particular is a fun player, as he returned six of his 14 career interceptions for touchdowns. The knock with him is size, as he checked in during the pre-draft process at 6-1 and 166 pounds. The NFL is becoming more open to smaller players, but having a cornerback that light on defense would make me a little nervous. You can bet offensive coordinators will be running right at him and sending their big receivers over to try and bully him until when and if he shows he’s up to the challenge....." |
Re: Draft grades
Forbes is a Bulldog. Hail State! Fuck the haters.
The only slight on him is his size. I wonder if every fucking "draft grader" that copied and pasted the same response did the same for Bryce Young? I bet 99% lauded that as a great decision. |
Re: Draft grades
My too early grade is a C. This is what you expect out of a draft. Identify and fill glaring needs and that is what they did. If you do what is expected of you that is average work.
I didn't see anything that tells me they exceeded expectations nor did they do anything that tells me they did not meet expectations. This is how grading works: https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=346692349391798 |

Re: Draft grades
Four different players started at Center last year, arguably the most important position on the offense besides the QB. I like Roullier, but the writing was on the wall when they signed Gates and drafted Stromberg.
|
Re: Draft grades
We were 8-8-1 with last year's line. The chances of this line being better than last year is around 90%. Outside of the OL, if Howell can just be solid, we are the same or better at every other spot.
Our success will be determined by: is the new OL enough of an improvement over last year and can Howell at least play like a top 20 QB. |
Re: Draft grades
I'm thinking that improvements/consistency from young guys starting alongside him, will improve Leno's play. The new OL may be a greater than the sum of its parts scenario.

If last year was just a bad season for Leno, that would be awesome. Because he's only 31, he's plenty young to still have some juice left in the tank. |

I hope you're wrong about center being the most important position, other than QB, because right now I'd say Gates is the weakest starter on the offense (that is saying a lot since Leno is still going to be starting). |

It's just my opinion that the Center is the most important position on the offense besides the QB. What other position would be more important? LT maybe... obviously it's a team sport, but the Center plays a crucial role with communication, and anchoring the interior... Not sure I get all the Gates hate, unless there is concern about the injury he seems to have recovered from. |
Re: Draft grades
All I want is for Harris to own the team by week 1.
Forbes is gonna be a stud. I do wish drafted a true 100% LT prospect. If the sale goes thru, we win 10 games. If not, we suck again. |
Re: Draft grades
I wanted B Jones and either J M Schmitz or O Torrance. Didn't have a chance (without trading up) to draft B Jones or any other "top" tackle... passed on the other two.... I'm hoping the defense is top 5 and the O-line isn't terrible.

I agree with going CB in round 1 based on how the 1st 15 picks went. But I would have liked to have added 100% tackle prospect, ala a Breeland (BYU) type prospect at some point. I like Daniels as a player but when everyone else besides Rivera says he's likely a G, I tend to think he's best at G. He's athletic though, so maybe he can be the swing T week 1. But I'd feel better with a more known option. Looking forward to the post-draft cuts that will be happening league wide soon. |

As long as you don't conflate "most improved" with "good" that statement can make logical sense. (article says top 3 most improved)

Here I thought I found a good news story, something to be happy about, and someone has to pull the rug right out from under me. LOL. I guess it's just easier to focus on the negatives, turn positives into negatives, and walk around with half empty glasses.

I prefer the term pragmatic instead of negative, but in deference to trying to be glass half full. There were plenty of games were the o line play was a huge liability in losses. So any upgrade has to better than this, right? |
I hear you. You seem to have a half-full approach with Howell though. Here are my expectations. The offense will improve, the defense will improve, and we'll finally find a return game. However, it won't translate to more wins due to the tough schedule. 10 of their 17 games are against playoff teams from last year, along with games against improved teams like Jets, Bears, Broncos, Falcons. Unfortunately, I think we're headed toward yet another average-record season, maybe slip into the postseason with Howell OR Brissett, maybe just miss it... somewhere in the 7-10 win range. Something to build on though - hopefully. |

I have never seen this new oline play together, nobody has, so i have no approach. I definitely think we improve on both sides of the ball, mainly because it won’t take much to improve especially on O. I’ve fallen into this trap for years though. If last year’s team can win 7 or 8 or 9 than this year’s team can win 10, 11, or 12! Lol. And every year I believe it. I really am a glass half full guy, but being a glass half empty guy is almost always a safer bet with this team, and im sick of the excuses- schedule, injuries, new scheme, snyder, etc etc etc. We are perpetual losers at this point and there are plenty of examples of games that we should have won that have nothing to do with the tired excuses. Snyder being gone is a huuuuuge plus though. Im just going to wait for W’s before i see the glass differently. It is too painful to get my hopes up again for no reason! |

The RB: This is the one guy I really, really liked going into the season. Between the tackles, downhill, no bull s _ _ _ running style. Love it, love it.” “I don’t know it for a fact, but there may be some issues. I gave him a second-round grade, I think he is an every-down running back starter. He brings the toughness, the no-nonsense.” “But the one thing that really bothered me was the fact that he backed out of the bowl game. I don’t think that is his character. Now, if it is, then he is not the guy I thought he was. But if not, then I think (the pick) is a steal. He is made for the NFL.” |

Excited for Forbes to lead us in interceptions.

Re: Draft grades
I mean, it's not 2003 where corners were expected to manhandle WRs all the way through the route. I get the tackling concerns, but the better he is in coverage, the less that matters. Time will tell, but I'm good with the pick, and the film (versus non-NFL players, obviously) looked pretty good overall.

Oh, I don't think you should be so judgmental about it. On the positive side, I think the G was showing good technique on the play by keeping his hands inside while blocking his own teammate. |

As a former skinny guy, I expect that Forbes will easily be able to quickly add 20 pounds or more of good weight at which time the issue of his light weight will be moot. |
Re: Draft grades
I know it is early but in April we were all upset we passed on Gonzalez and it looks like as usual we amateur fans were right and the professionals at the Redskins were wrong. So far Gonzalez has been a star and Forbes has been - well not a star. Question at what point should the team bench Forbes? Forbes has been targeted 25 times and allowed 18 catches for a league-high 356 yards.
|
Re: Draft grades
Is that not suggesting his issue is with the deep routes, near 20 ypc? Or is it that there are a few real big plays skewing the average? Is he trying to get picks/big plays at the expense of shutting his man down?
|
Re: Draft grades
Let Forbes keep playing, he won't get better on the bench. He's going to improve, just a matter of time.
