Re: Changing The Team Name, Give It A Rest!!
Maybe the only way we’re ever going to put this subject to rest is to keep talking about it until we’re all talked out lol.
In my ideal world, Commanders gets changed to Red Wolves, the fight song is back with a few lyric tweaks, Snyder falls off his yacht, and all his crew members start videoing him while he’s attacked and eaten by sharks. But I’ll take 11-6. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

A lot of the clickbait journalist are talking it up now because it is the offseason. |
I wonder if they'd announce Earl Campbell as a former TN Titans RB?
Probably not, but the circumstances under which their name changed is far different than ours. |
But there are still HS teams around the country called the Redskins lolol
Good to know there are still people in decision-making roles who won't cave to the pressure (or at least haven't yet). |

Commanders team president Jason Wright says that the team will not consider going back to the old team name. "It is not being considered. Period."

About time someone from the team said it.

Cuz we trust him..... lol

Re: Changing The Team Name, Give It A Rest!!
(BTW I don't want to trust him and the name coming back would make happy as fuck)
|
Re: Changing The Team Name, Give It A Rest!!
Trust him or not, I'd find to hard to believe he's going rogue and saying something the ownership group doesn't also support.
A change is still possible, it was just never going back to Redskins. |

I doubt this is happening, because only a dysfunctional organization would do this. Harris could have easily fired him, without much consequence, but he chose to keep him. A quick name change is not going to happen because it is going to upset many fans: those who have the delusion that the name Redskins will be back (because it will never happen), those that wanted Redwolves (because I doubt that would happen as well), and those that are going to be tired of yet another name change. Also, are they really going to spend millions of dollars on a name change, when they could be spending that money in other priority projects? I doubt it. |
Re: Changing The Team Name, Give It A Rest!!
Well I still predict this will be Wrights and the "Commanders" final season.

You really think that going to continue? lol As for the name change, quick can't happen as they have to wait 5 years minimum. Redskins will not happen either. Too many whiny white folk protecting the natives that don't want protecting. Maybe get to bring back the logo and uniform for throw backs someday if they can do something nice for the native community. But the name is not coming back. That being said, by end of next off season Wright will not be on the staff. Mark my words. |
Re: Changing The Team Name, Give It A Rest!!
Just want to remind everyone waiting 5 years is a myth (We'd still be WFT otherwise).

If that's the case, what was the point of retaining him? That was basically my way of saying that the article you read was probably BS. And yeah, everyone will probably be gone by next season or maybe they work out and are retained, who knows. I think it is fair to give everyone in the organization to prove themselves, and it may be easier for all aspects of the team to be better when you don't have an owner that is actively destroying the team like Snyder. |

Everyone, including the NFL, knew that was a placeholder name. And given that the team was just sold, it technically gives the new ownership the opportunity to rename the team. However, it will not happen right away because the ownership have other priorities in where to spend their money (fan experience, stadium improvements, etc., etc.). |
Re: Changing The Team Name, Give It A Rest!!
Commanders isn't changing, if it was they would be announcing it by now.. Why would they keep it for another full season and then after 2 years change everything again? Just keep it, yes its bland but win games first

This :laughing- Agree with Mattyk though, don't think he would say something that's completely out of line with the owning group's position. And even without his comment, I was 98.7% sure going back to Redskins wasn't happening. Just way too risky. Just changing the name chosen by Snyder makes the new owner(s) the good guy(s), whatever you think about it, they don't need the controversy that would come with going back to Redskins in 2023. |

We enjoyed the ride, lets make a new brand and hopefully associate it with some winning this time around. |
Re: Changing The Team Name, Give It A Rest!!
Theismann is a more reliable source than Wright is at this point. Joe is a made guy and is loved in this town, no matter who the ownership group is. So I 100% believe him when he says Commanders is gone- at some point. When? Who knows..
It doesn't matter if they win the damn SB, I don't think Commanders is staying simply because literally no one likes it. If they get a name that everyone likes or can respect and can relate to, it will make them a ton of money. When the time is right, that shitty ass name and hopefully those shitty ass uniforms are gone. We still have no identity. |

That is just ridiculous. You have an ownership group of several people and all of them have billions- except Majic, who is the poor one at around 600 million. The money they will spend changing the name is chump change to the ownership group. |

Joe T is Gospel in the DMV and probably knows more than most journalists. Change the name to something respectable to remove the skid mark douche bag Danny created and move on. I’m all in on that approach. |
Re: Changing The Team Name, Give It A Rest!!
I think Joey T's sphere of influence is blown out of proportion here based on most of our ages. I am willing to bet the average Commanders fan under the age of 35 doesn't even know who he is.

Joe has said some stupid shit in the past, and he's always trying to bring attention to himself (see the whole Dwayne Haskins jersey number episode) When a credible reporter like John Keim or Nicki Jhabala says anything about a name change I'll believe it. The only people that keep talking about a name change are the delusional people that want the old name back, the people that are mad they didn't get Redwolves, or anyone in the media that wants clicks. |

You start by changing the culture of the entire team and that means starting fresh. Only way to do that is new name/logo/etc. I do think they should do this when they get a new stadium though. Get that push to rebuild in old RFK spot. Idiots wanting the Redskins name to be brought back need to fuck off. It's never happening. Ever. End of story. Move on or go support another team. It's that simple. |
Re: Changing The Team Name, Give It A Rest!!
The name will likely change with the new stadium announcement. The lease for Fedex Field is up in 2027, so next season (before preferably) would make sense to have a new name and location, lining up sponsors that make sense for the new name. Lots of work has to be put in to make that happen, and depends on how useful the work done under Snyder is.

I think it may be the other way around: get the stadium deal done and then look into changing the name, and if that happens you have the new name unveiling with the new stadium. That's easily a 5-10 year project, which gives the organization plenty of time to do their homework and get everything done correctly. |
