I know I want Jayden Daniels, because when I read mock drafts where he's the choice, I like it. If it's Maye, I don't like it. It's just a visceral reaction, no time to think too much. Just straight gut.
Still haven't seen a publicized mock with J.J.M. at 2 yet, so still waiting for someone to go there. |

I know I make fun of Caleb a lot but I almost feel bad for him. He has no shot going to Chicago. He's going to be put in a really bad situation there.

I’m hearing more about Vikings wanting to trade up for Maye. We may(e) end up with a haul of picks, a second tier QB like McCarthy or Penix. I’m also hearing Justin Jefferson is in play. 👀[/quote] FYI, Penix is not a 2nd tier QB imo. He may be in the eyes of the media, and maybe some teams, fans... but when you watch his games, he is the best QB in this draft. He makes more "NFL" type of throws, tight window, deep balls, you name it. And although I like Daniels, I think he is 2nd among the QB's IMO, I don't see him having an elite arm like Penix does. But he can make up for that w/ his running and playmaking. So therefore I'm all in favor of trading back and grabbing Penix. McCarthy? He just doesn't have elite skills, neither as a runner or passer. |

JJ’s tape is pretty good. He’s your prototypical pocket passer. Accurate, good arm and throws on time. Idk if I’d take him at 2 but he’ll go top 15 I bet

Re: QB Prospects Thread
The concern I have with Daniels is his post season draft ranking rise. Most rankings had him outside the top 10 in January while Maye was generally ranked top 5 then. (Note most still have Maye higher than Daniels). I just don't like going with late risers, we did that with Jamin Davis and Forbes and that didn't pan out. I'd prefer Maye over Daniels (and Williams over both).

I've never seen a qb take his team to the title game and have his stock hit so badly. Kid was nearly flawless up to that game last year. Michigan had an absurdly good defense- national title like. Penix has a cannon, is a superb leader, highly accurate and good pocket presence. Would not be surprised at all if he has a great pro career. |
Re: QB Prospects Thread
I would be happy with Penix if we took Joe Alt at 3 or 4 and then took Penix at 33

Yeah, late risers are often the result of media and fan adulation, often fuelled by the agents who actively look to disparage the competing players. Daniels was rated as a 3rd round pick before last season, before the predraft hype machine got into full swing there was no doubt Maye was one of the best prospects of the last decade, now some talking heads declare he isn't even a 1st rounder . I will leave it to the FO to sift the facts from the innuendo, but there seem to be a lot of people, even here, who are absolutely convinced Daniels is a star and will likley be complaining loudly if he is not the pick at #2. |

Re: QB Prospects Thread
Recently watched a podcast where NFL personnel people said that because of the exceptional abilities of the QBs at the top of this draft class that many people are nit-picking the qualifications of all of the QB's in this class. Caleb is such a transcendent talent that it causes people to have doubts about JD and Maye in comparison to him. Likewise, JD and Maye are so talented that evaluators start to point out correctable flaws in Penix, JJ, and Nix.. The bottom line for the experts on the podcast was that for teams that miss out on one of the top three there are still very good QBs available.

All true, but one of the qualities that pundits and football ppl see in Daniels is the ability to learn and improve. It’s a counterpart to raw athleticism and a quality that, for example, CY is deficient in. AP, DQ, & co. are looking for coach-ability, work ethic, mental processing speed, in addition to toughness, arm strength, accuracy, elusiveness and the other obvious QB qualities. All top 5 QBs are studs, and all have potential NFL level issues. Let’s get the one whose issues OUR coaching staff knows how to fix and the one they know will listen and make adjustments. There is no way we are taking McCarthy at 2. No way. And if they trade out for him or Pennix we will all regret it. Do not get cute. Stick at 2. Take Maye or Daniels whoever they like better.

Everything i read about the guy is basically Saying the same thing… good attitude, work horse, chip on shoulder but weak long ball problems with progressions etc. So now everyone wants to say well Michigan quarterback who has untapped potential with a great work ethic- omg its Tom Brady. Lol. Sorry he isn’t half as gifted as Caleb, Maye, or Daniels. It is a hard pass for me. After all these years of quarterback issues it has to be a “sure” thing. Is anyone ever a sure thing? Nope. Is there a chance JJ is being overlooked? Yep. Do I want to take that chance to pick up some draft capital when we have 5 other picks in the top 100 and desperately need a quarterback? Hellll nooo. Lol. |
Re: QB Prospects Thread
J.J. McCarthy will be the best QB from this draft class. That being said, the pick is Jayden Daniels.

I am a big fan of making bold statements that cannot be shot down for a couple years. Lol. Nobody can predict the future but i do not want to walk away from the position we are in with a day two quarterback unless someone offers us such an insane amount of picks that it is impossible to say no. Everything, (new owner, best gm in years, solid FA moves made, cap space still great, 9 picks [6 in top 100], new staff, excited fan base) points towards a day one number 2 pick at quarterback. I think it will be Daniels too. |

The safest bet (and still a crapshoot) is to draft the guy w/ the best physical tools. That is J.D. imo. I don't trust Maye's accuracy. His short pass stats are not very good. Those need to be almost automatic in the NFL. |

Maye is 2 years younger so needs a lot more development, but aside from running speed his tools are better than Daniels imo. |

Jayden's running skills are elite. I think his running skills gives him the overall physical tools advantage over Maye. I should have added an either to this sentence: I don't trust Maye's accuracy (either). |
Re: QB Prospects Thread
I agree, although I don't feel I know enough about the prospects to have a firm opinion. My key thought is that we pick the QB that the coaching staff feel gives us the best option to succeed in our scheme, in our market (regardless of athletic talent its simply fact that they have to be sellable to the general fanbase and the media) and our team philosophy. For me, every QB we've drafted since Shuler has had me doubting they know what they are doing. This time at least I have more confidence that the combined brain trust are going to pick the right guy from those available. And more so, if he turns out not to be that guy, that they'll do what they can next year to get their guy and not hang on to a losing hand. And so on.
