President Raúl Mulino added however that Panama would not renew a 2017 memorandum of understanding to join China’s overseas development initiative, known as the Belt and Road, and suggested that the deal with China could end early.

Panama will seek to work with the US on new investments, including infrastructure projects, he said. “I think this visit opens the door to build new relations … and try to increase as much as possible US investments in Panama,” Mulino told reporters on Sunday after Rubio’s first foreign trip as the United States’ top diplomat

Look I’m pro USAID when they are funneling money to kill Marxists, socialists and terrorists in other countries. Keep doing that.

I’m Anti-USAID when they funnel money to terrorists organization, hostile regimes; corruption organizations who pocket the funds and any type of woke liberal project in another country

Sounds like some sort of reforms are needed.

https://www.nytimes.com/live/2025/02/03/us/trump-tariffs

Ms. Sheinbaum agreed to deploy 10,000 additional troops, who President Trump said would be designated to stop the flow of migrants and illegal drugs across the U.S.-Mexico border.

In return, Mexico will get at least a temporary reprieve from the blanket 25 percent tariffs Mr. Trump announced on Saturday, as well as help from the U.S. government to stanch the movement of guns back over the border, Ms. Sheinbaum said on Monday

Mexico agreed to send troops to the border to stop the illegal crossings and stop the flow of drugs. That why Trump paused the tariffs, not because of the stock market

Looks like they will hold further talks for a bigger deal within the month. It’s called leverage folks

trumps big middle finger to the voters he cares so much about.

"That figure assumes Canada retaliates with tariffs of its own, according to analysis first shared with Yahoo Finance. If it doesn’t, the cost would be $648 per household. Tariffs on Canada would also shrink the US economy by $875 billion, or 0.2% of gross domestic product.

And when including tariffs on Mexican goods, import taxes on all three countries would cost about $1,245 per household while reducing GDP by $1.4 billion."

https://www.foxnews.com/politics/trump-era-southern-border-sees-migrant-encounters-plummet-over-60-new-policies-kick-in

Trump-era southern border sees migrant encounters plummet by over 60%

There were 7,287 migrant encounters at the southern border in the first seven days (Jan 20-26) after Trump's inauguration by both Border Patrol between ports of entry and by the Office of Field Operations (OFO) at ports of entry, with a daily average of 1,041 encounters a day.

That compares to 20,086 encounters in the seven days in the final days of the Biden administration (Jan 13-19) prior to Trump’s inauguration, averaging 2,869 encounters a day.

Of course no new legislation was needed to implement securing the border. Anyone who cried like a baby saying legislation was needed was lying to themselves the entire time.

Trump achieved the lowest illegal border crossings in 35 years when he was in office the first time…we are going back to those numbers again because he chose to secure the border under immigration laws that never changed.

Oh and 79 miles of new border fencing is going up as we speak

Re: Trump 2.0 Administration Golden Years

USAID........................

Then-President John F. Kennedy established the US Agency for International Development, known as USAID, during the Cold War. In the decades since, Republicans and Democrats have fought over the agency and its funding

Kennedy created USAID at the height of the United States’ Cold War struggle with the Soviet Union. He wanted a more efficient way to counter Soviet influence abroad through foreign assistance and saw the State Department as frustratingly bureaucratic at doing that.

Congress passed the Foreign Assistance Act and Kennedy set up USAID as an independent agency in 1961.

USAID has outlived the Soviet Union, which fell in 1991. Today, supporters of USAID argue that US assistance in countries counters Russian and Chinese influence. China has its own “belt and road” foreign aid program worldwide operating in many countries that the US also wants as partner

Republicans typically push to give the State Department — which provides overall foreign policy guidance to USAID — more control of its policy and funds. Democrats typically promote USAID autonomy and authority. Funding for United Nations agencies, including peacekeeping, human rights and refugee agencies, have been traditional targets for Republican administrations to cut. The first Trump administration moved to reduce foreign aid spending, suspending payments to various UN agencies, including the UN Population Fund and funding to the Palestinian Authority.

You work in/with Social Security, correct?

Do you think any part of the reason your agency is underfunded and understaffed is because the government is so big and bloated that it wastes money on bullshit like "$1.1 million to an Armenian 'LGBT group'", that cuts into funding for actual departments/expenditures/etc. that we need like SSA?

Why not cut that say in half, so the government saves $550k, and then sends the other $550k to the SSA to use on something the federal government is actually doing to help Americans?

The federal government is a fucking monstrosity that wastes billions of dollars, correcting that should be a goal of every American imo, then use the saved money to pay off the debt and funnel some of the savings to actual vital agencies in the govt.
