Re: Postgame thoughts

LOL......I just can't believe some of the posts on here. Here I thought we actually won yesterday.......oh wait, that's right.....we did win. Reading these posts you wouldn't know it.

It's already been said a million times so I won't restate it all again, but I'm with Matty on all of his posts. Unless you guys have severe short-term memory loss, you'd have to be blind not to see that the offense looked a lot better yesterday than last year. We dominated the field on both sides of the ball. Yes, we've still got issues getting it into the endzone......and those issues MUST be worked out if we are going to beat better competition........ but if you had told me last year that we'd get 300+ yards of total offense, run the ball for almost 5 per carry, and dominate time of posession......I'd be a pretty happy camper.

You wanted us to open up the offense: we did. You wanted to take shots downfield: did that too. You wanted a better YPC average for Portis: accomplished. You wanted better pass protection: done. You wanted less rediculous penalties and clock management issues: significantly reduced. You wanted less 3-and-outs: done. Yet all some of you can do is bit#h and wine like little girls. I'm just glad I didn't log on until today so that you all didn't kill my buzz yesterday from enjoying a win and a promising improvement over last year.

I'll just end with a plea that we not give up on the entire season before we actually lose a game......Please.
Not sure I care what you are saying? We suck....bottom line. And you keep coming up with excuses as to why we are going to be good and keep getting disappointed......don't call me an a hole again.
then please stop acting like one. I'm sorry if you think I have no right to my opinion, or the right to express them. And i've come up with no excuses, I just said we kept it close last year... how the hell is that an excuse? So I have no idea what your responding to, but its obviously isn't something I said.

I'll second that, his entire post by the way, not just the part about acting like little girls even though that was great.

You win dude.....we'll keep it close this year.....but we won't win more than 6 games because of our inept offense.

Our "inept" offense had more yards than 14 other teams yesterday.
Our "inept" offense had fewer penalties than every other NFL team except for the Chiefs, Lions and Steelers.
Our "inept" offense held the ball (T.O.P.) for longer than all but 3 teams yesterday.

Again, we need to work on getting the TD instead of the FG, but I hardly think our offense looked "inept". Want to see inept? Look at some footage of our early games last year.

I'm looking at the replays from Moss... then the replays from Coles

Coles missed HUGE opportunities and dropped a couple passes
6 catches for 66 yds.

Moss made big plays and had no glaring mistakes
4 catches for 92 yards

cya Coles

Then I'm looking at the replays from Patten and then the replays from Gardner

Patten had limited action but like Moss, no glaring mistakes
3 catches for 19 yards

Gardner was... he had... he made... can't seem to find him on the field
0 catches for 0 yards

cya Gardner

Gardner's new team scored 20 points and 350 yards ----- 0-1
Coles' new team scored 7 points (junk time TD) and 390 yards of offense ----- 0-1
My Redskins; only 9 points and 323 yards offense ----- 1-0

15 more games to go, but we're doing just fine if you ask me

I've been saying all offseason... if we have a top 16 offense and a top 10 defense we'll make the playoffs. We're built like the 2000 Baltimore Ravens and we just need the offense to manage the game and let the defense win it.

The Offence didn't do as badly as the score board would sugest nor as well as the yards total would make it seem. No TD's is something to worry about. It seemed to me there were not enough shots taken down the feild. The running game isn't going to produce if they can stack 8 men in the box. I think the biggest problem is the red zone offence. Three red zone chances ended in 2 FGs and a fumble, not good enough. The next biggest problem was turnovers 4 fumbles and 1 INT(almost 2 INT). Nothing is a team killer more then turnovers.

The D was amazing, yeah we needed more pas rush, but they only let them in our red zone once.(As a result of a fumble) Any game where the Skins give up less then 50 yards rushing is almost certainly going to be a win.

The offense moved the ball well yesterday, just need to score a couple TD's. Remember, the Bears will end up a top 5 defense, they are an excellent defensive unit. This week its the cowpokes and they are really good on D. Offense will get it in the endzone on a regular basis in the coming weeks and when that happens and Williams can let the D really loose it will be fun to watch. Patience, patience, patience (I know its hard to do) but they are definately going in the right direction. Last year, they might have lost that game yesterday...but they didn't.

Hay to lighten things up a little guess what I did yesterday. I do not have any skins stuff like shirts or caps to wear I just never buy that stuff. I was rushing out the door at 6:30am to go to the game and on the way out grabed at hat to wear. While we were tail gating I started talking smack to a Bears fan and he said I thought you where on my saide and I just gave him a funny look. Later my cap feel off and as I picked it up I noticed I was wearing a Chicago Ill hat and all my buddies started laughing at me but they never noticed either. Well now I own a skins hat.

Re: Postgame thoughts

Some quick thoughts,

1) The pass rush. In the second half the plan seemed to be to blitz enough to get Orton to think about it and to back off and play zone. Masterful job by Williams of getting into the rookie's head, true he made some plays but nothing deep and nothing of note.

2) The passing game. I didn't expect an offensive explosion, although I did hope for one. There's just no way that Gibbs is going to let it all hang loose the week before playing Dallas on Monday night. I think it was a classic look ahead game, especially when Rex Grossman got hurt in the preseason, then this became an easy win and we started to look ahead to the Cowboys game. That said, I thought Cooley blew it when he didn't run his route in the end zone and I thought Brunell did an excellent job of protecting the ball, throwing it away once and taking the sack another time.

3) The constants. Or as we have come to know them, defense and Portis. No matter who Williams suits up they play physical and Portis is simply awesome. Betts raising the level of his play just will motivate Portis that much more.

All told, I thought our offense would play better but I look for a more even performance next Monday night. The Cowboys looked very beatable, the only thing that scares me is that the passes that Bledsoe was completing were the same ones that Kyle Orton was getting on us, the slants and crossing patterns underneath. Their secondary looked very ordinary, several blown coverages and the safety opposite Roy Williams might as well be wearing a target sign instead of a number. I can't wait for the game
