You know I under stand AH has brought this on himself but to have him playing in the 4th qtr of this game was pretty stupid. AH at 3/4 speed is better then 90% in the NFL and it almost seems that Sh. was trying to embarrass him. He also said that AH might not play against Dallas and might not even be on the roster for the game.
Let me say that what I saw of AH in the 3rd and 4th quarter did not look anywhere near 90% better then anyone in the NFL. On one play I saw the offense line up and AH standing straight up hands on hips huffing and puffing. When he finally got in his stance he looked awkward. Then the ball was snapped and all he did was stand up, put his hands on the Center, and tried to bully push him back which didn't work. The guy took one step back and held his ground. AH gave up at that point. Clearly AH was tired but he definitly was not using his technique due to being tired. Now if the team can frequently change Kemo and AH out so they stay fresh is the best idea I have at this point. Otherwise any long drives by a good offense will have AH taking plays off. |
Man if you think for a second that there is a better Dlinemn on our squad please tell me who he is?
BTW he was not getting pushed around last night, he was focusing on staying at the LOS and controlling his gap. That was his duty last night, don't penetrate but hold your man at the point of attack.
Albert was a little bit of everything last night. Sometimes, the monster was unleashed and he mauled people(Faneca) -- he probably got the green light to rush the passer. Other times, he play disciplined, as he should be, see the play where Skelton wanted to scramble, but he did not overcommit to one gap. And for other times not included in the other other times, he stank it up and got pushed back. I know for sure he was pushed back on two of the 49 plays, so one may have to worry about him being inconsistent. |
Re: Skins vs. Cards, Pre-Season week 4 Gameday thread
The other thing that you have to remember is we are talking about the 4th preseason game of the year. Him not giving 100% effort in this game does not surprise me at all.
I think we all need to wait till the 12th to fully understand how AH is going to play in this defense. Lets not get to ahead of ourselves. My point was not to break down everything he did last night, but was more of a general observation. This guy is going to be fine in 10 days, and winning will make this guy even better. People keep asking what motivates Albert to play well, I think it is the belief that the team will win games and not only that actually winning games. Look at this comments from the last 2 games (excluding game 4). After the Ravens he was mad because he had to play in a losing effort in the 3rd and 4th quarters. After the Jets game he was up beat and joking. Winning is AHs motivation. If this team can get off to a good start especially beating the crap out of the Cowboys, I predict we will see a very motivated player. |

I know this is going to be an overly optimistic, Koolaid filled post, but here it goes. When you are first learning anything new, you go slower, you think through what you are doing, you catch little habits and force through them. As you go better you get faster.
So, i choose to see it as yesterday AH was being very deliberate in playing with the fundamentals of this 3-4 D. He may have got pushed back once or twice, but he also played the space eater role very carefully and very well, he didn't try to go around or be "the guy", he opened holes for Henson et al. If it was his intention to deliberately play the style that this D calls for him to play, then he did it well. I never saw him huffing, or taking a knee, he simply went out and played the role he was asked to play. Now if he can do that at full speed, and at the level of his known talent, MS may just have created a monster! Sorry, I drank all the koolaid, you all will have to find your own |

It's real special... in my best imitation southern accent... :food-smil |
Re: Skins vs. Cards, Pre-Season week 4 Gameday thread
Can't get on AH for last night at all. THe D performed fine til the end of the 3rd quarter when Max Hall started to shred our scrub Dbs. One thing is for sure, our depth in the defensive backfield is very suspect. The Card Wrs were wide open, and I mean wide. Even I could have made some nice completions. Next year's draft we need to focus on DBs and maybe another LB, after we continue to shore up the O line of course.

Re: Skins vs. Cards, Pre-Season week 4 Gameday thread
Westbrook got torched on multiple occasions. Tryon played fairly well not great but was around the ball a good bit.
I would like to see us keep Hall, Rodgers, Buchannon, Tryon, and I guess Barnes and leave it at that for now. With Barnes physicality it would have been nice to see him get a shot at switching to FS. I guess from what I have seen as some peoples prediction as to our 53 man roster it seems as though the consensus is to keep 5 safties to start the year because of Moores injury. Having a guy who can play both FS and CB would be a nice luxury to have right now to not have to wast a roster spot on 5 safeties. |
